Carnevil scared the dick off me as a kid. Seeing it in arcades was a surefire way to make me have a nightmare. Its funny because even now just seeing the advertisements for it still makes me uncomfortable even though it doesn't necessarily "scare" me anymore.

I've seen nobody else talk about this. might be a totally unique experience especially with how obscure the game is
>playing ed edd n eddy mis edventures for gamecube
>there's an enemy that's just a spider
>walking in this grassy bush area
>a glitch happens where a bunch of these spider enemies spawn on top of each other, forming a spider tower that's taller than my character and quickly approaching me
>looks unnatural, clearly not something that's meant to be
>this activates a primal, mind shattering fear that i've never quite experienced since

Scared the shit out of me so bad it was like a five day rental and I made my parents return it the second day in, lmao.

I remember this exact image from the prerelease Melee days. Oldfagging at the speed of a snail.
My childhood fear is lightning. We were on a road trip and our vehicle got struck by lightning. Everything seemed fine but ten minutes later, one of our tires exploded while we were speeding on the interstate and we spun out into a median. No injuries, but scary as hell for a ten year old. I still get a little on edge in severe storms.

I had the same thing with Chucky when I was a kid. I watched one of the movies with a bunch of teenagers when I was like 6. For the next like 5-6 years, even just seeing his face would make me freak out.
Must have been some kind of weird trauma response. Or maybe I'm just particularly bitchmade.

Back when I first played Ocarina of Time I got so scared after the 7 year jump that I stopped playing altogether until I was older. I was way too immersed and not only did I get scared by the redesd but I also felt guilt over what I did, and for a while I actually had a fear of fucking up other game worlds like that, even though it doesn't make sense, I felt guilty for destroying Hyrule.

Actually, now that I think about it. A few years later I was playing Minish Cap and there's this heartpiece you had to get by jumping with Roc's Cloak or whatever it was called and hit a bell.
I was unaware of this and did it by accident, the ominous sound it made somehow convinced me for a second that I had fucked up again for some reason lol
Later that year I went back to Ocarina and got through it. Surprisingly the shadow temple didn't scare me as much.
I think it was the idea of seeing the citizens of Hyrule that were once happy turning into zombies that bothered me.
I actually had gotten out of the temple of time all happy because I wanted to show off my new form to the townsfolk, and was really disturbed to see the world destroyed.

forest 2 and water tower 1 have puzzles that involve you going back and forth between rooms and even knowing what you are doing it takes a lot of time, God forbid you mess up a puzzle or the turning of a wheel because now you have to go back

SH4 is unironically one of the only games where I'd recommend playing with a guide even if it is your first playthrough, you can also fall into badly designed mechanics like giving eileen a weapon which is a guaranteed way to get the bad ending because she stops to fight everything including Walter

This but unironically. Doesn't helps that my first experience with Mario 64 was a demo kiosk at a huge yet empty toy store shaped like a castle, it was empty nearly all the time because they built it on a then very isolated location.

Honestly? Silence after spending 90% of your time with constant auditory bombardment probably would be out of the ordinary for such individuals. Might be why so many young people are constantly yapping, filling the silence with absolute nonsense just because the relative quiet is something they're unaccustomed to.

My brother was the same age when RE4 came out. He absolutely cannot stand the Regenerators, especially the noise. I was an asshole older brother (I was 14 or 15) and would occasionally spook him at night by making the noise when he didn't realize I was in earshot. It worked really well at night. When I moved out a few years later, I gifted him my Regenerator/Iron Maiden figure by placing it in his room while he was out, didn't tell him. We still are close but that was all a bit much.

You're missing the point and likely a zoomer yourself. That sign was scary because in Mario64 most of these signs hint at things that actually happen, back then there was no datamining or internet so there was still the possibility that something unexpected could happen if you made too much of a racket in that particular hallway. Even more jarring since the castle interior is a safe hub.

It's a bit embarrassing to admit but going here actually did scare me when I was little lol, I kept all my dark chao in the neutral garden, also the goodbye screen in the chao removing machine made me cry, I refused to ever use it because I didn't want my little guys to be sad and miss me, although at one point I was tempted to hatch one to immediately send it because I heard a rumor that you could see the chao you send away flying around in the sonic jungle level.

Poor guy couldn't catch a break and had a lot of FOMO surrounding that since both of those games were so culturlaly dominant back then. I mean I always gave him shit for it but you can't argue with fear.

We played the original helldivers once and a hunter bug decloaked next to him for the first time and I heard him literally throw his headset off over teamspeak. He said he jumped up so hard in his chair that he literally cracked his table and bruised his wrist, lmao.

i have one of the most irrational fears ever. zombies. not in games or movies, in real life. when i'm walking alone at night and i hear a "zombie" adjacent sound, like a squeaky metal fence, i will look behind me a dozen times, and gaslight myself into thinking there's actually a zombie, and i'm going to be the second zombie ever. around that point, i start jogging, and eventually running home.

That part freaked me out too. It's pretty clever that the further you progress up to that point, the mansion gets less scary because there is a larger safe zone of all the lit rooms, just for the game to pull the rug and leave you surrounded by darkness.

LM1 genuinely has all the elements of a good horror game, even though it's basically a parody.

Absolutely.

My ideal Yoshi is:

Jungle green, not that soft pastel Yoshi's Island green โ€” I mean leaf-slick, primordial slime green.

Has a slightly too-long tongue that slaps against the screen when you press it, with a wet "fwlop" that makes Toads nervous.

Wears his classic orange shoes, but theyโ€™re worn out from years of cross-kingdom adventures. Maybe thereโ€™s a bandaid on one.

His voice is deeper, a little raspy โ€” like a veteran mount whoโ€™s seen some things. He still chirps "Yoshi!" but it's got weight behind it now.

Spits fire, ice, and existential dread, depending on what fruit he eats.

Carries a tiny satchel that he keeps mementos in: a Polaroid of Mario, a chewed-up Koopa shell, a scrap of Shy Guy mask.

And when he runs, his body has just enough bounce and jank to feel a little unpredictable โ€” like he's still, after all these years, a wild creature at heart.

Thatโ€™s the Yoshi Iโ€™d ride into battle. Or into the void. Or into the grocery store.

There's certain media where I would hate to be stuck in and would most likely get myself into that situation. If I lived in a small town and there was a grave that had a token slot and token, I would totally try it out. Like I would totally watch the video from the Ring because my curiosity would get me and cursed video tapes aren't real. I don't fuck with caves so stuff like that doesn't get me as much.

>fall down a hole and encounter flesh eating enemies that cant be damaged in a franchise where you can damage literally anything
>all you can do is run from them in their deep flesh eating dungeon while scary music plays everytime you run into them
>you literally get damaged just by touching their bodies
>they threaten to do horrible torturous and gruesome stuff to you while you hide and run away from them
>the final part before the boss requires you to stand at a dead end and wait till a whole group of them approach you triggering the floor to collapse
>however most people didnt know this and would just turn off the console before they approached you
>so scary that most people didnt beat rayman 3 because they would give up at this part out of fear

I never actually watched Home Alone so as a kid I had no context for why he screams, to me it just sounded like a naked kid was being hurt/tortured in some echoey dungeon. I had nightmares from this shit becuase of my own imagination.

>Mother 3: A tense final boss theme which fits it perfectly
>Mother 2: A really cool sounding song followed by really creepy ambient music which works really well for Giygas

The music is the worst part really, the wailing chorus, the demonic grumbling, and the tense instrumentation are what I'd expect out of a hell level or something, but the actual level itself is too small and barren to have much hell imagery beyond the sky. Factory machines are bloody and yeah toilet humor interspersed with a woman being turned into cat food is fucked up, but according to her no actual dog has gone through it yet? It seems like the kind of place that WOULD become hell on earth (for dogs) if her plan was successful, but as-is the tone of the music is premature.

Clanker isn't scary, but the dive underwater was a bit scary the first time you do it, or when you did it and the camera didn't cooperate.

>>714850598
>Dropping into the lava with a *plop* and an instadeath was what fucked me up as a kid.
It was for a long while, until I found out the same effect is used in the ship in Rusty Bucket Bay and the final boss fight. Afterwards it became amusing and I'd intentionally jump off the cliff in the quiz game section (the game platform had invisible walls) because it was funny to hear the death music interrupt the game show music. Also because it was funny seeing the outcome of the attract mode within the ship where the player slips to his unseen death, and the clouds in the last fight looked like foamy 7up so it was funny seeing him "die "in bubbling lime soda.
>They intentionally made the pathway in the room with Gobi's Valley not hug the wall so an unsuspecting child like me would drop right into the lava
Fucking based of Rare to do that. I died once and was scared shitless and had a fear of going that path for a long time, and it's the only place where I wouldn't jump down for fun.
Also around that same area would be the cheatcode book who had rather creepy music, and none of what he said made sense, made especially scarier when Bottles and Gruntilda would threaten to delete your save if you meddled with cheats.

This game traumatized me, the close up sprite of that ghost was way too scary and unexpected because it replaced the usual Mickey/Goofy game over screens. Anyone else?

Always got freaked out when I had to go near them in Spyro. Even as an adult later in the remake I had that same feeling.

TEAR OFFF HIISS FLEESSHH

still burned into my mind to this day, also that hunter boss in the swamp level where its his POV and you have to avoid his shots was the most intense gaming moment young me had seen at that point

Man rayman 2 and 3 were so good and weird it honestly makes me a little sad about the downfall of ubisoft

the paper mario series has a few of these. Like ghost t for example. Like he's harmless(usually) but the way the cheerful train music music cuts out when he spawns and the undead ghost theme played when tralking to him was unsettling as a kid. Reading his diary also triggers a special gameover.
