I played it not long after it came out, and I intentionally avoided anything related to it so I don't get spoiled. It was nice discovering the story as the game progressed, but I replayed it multiple times and I still enjoyed it even though I knew what was going to happen.
The battles are kind of a chore, but honestly I enjoyed them more than in most JRPGs. There were definitely too many of them.
Anyway, Mother 3 is amazing. Nice art, beautiful music (it spams leitmotifs like Toby), and the battle and inventory systems are so much better than Earthbound. It's definitely my favorite Mother game. If you already played Mother 1, Mother 2 will be a great improvement in playability, and then Mother 3 will be an even bigger improvement.
