Yeah, this game looks just as ass as it always did since it was announced. Just glad that it's finally been outright confirmed that Ryu will only have one weapon. It's a modern Platinum game with a Ninja Gaiden skin featuring Ryu Hayabusa. Probably won't be buying this on release, if ever, to be honest. I'll just keep playing NG2.

It's just another style over substance game, like everything Platinum makes.

Confirmed DLC will have more gameplay content, including Ryu weapons. Insane that they’re locking them behind DLC but at least they’re confirmed.

The problem is when you make a new character that feels like it is taking away from Ryu.
Since the new character has tons of weapons, and Ryu only has DS, it feels like this arbitrary contrived thing where they deliberately take away stuff from Ryu.
They should be smart enough to know that Ryu with only DS is a disaster. 3 was a disaster so they gave him more weapons because of bad it was, to name one of the flaws with that release.
In DMC Nero is his own unique character with his own unique mechanics and moves that are distinct from Dante and it does not feel like he is taking away the option for Dante to have the things that Dante should have, which are weapons. The character is deliberately made with something different in mind.
Yakumo on the otherhand is just Ryu-lite Platinum Edition, but Ryu is also in the game and has no weapons when he should have.
This is very very bad when you try to introduce a new character, because now everyone is already angry at Yakumo and dislikes him for taking away Ryu's weapons.
There was no compromise here and the developers are really really stupid and Team Ninja is really stupid for not making an executive decision to force Plat to give him more weapons. They know this, they should know this, Ryu NEEDS more than one weapon.
It hurts extra hard now because they added real time weapon switching instead of pausing, but then didn't give Ryu weapons.

It works well on Liz but it's not something you expect to do all the work, it's the fact the damage is consistent and reliable rather than high that makes it nice to use on her. Though it is sometimes possible for you to land the later parts of strings right after she recovers from the Phoenix hit and that can do a ton of damage.

It's actually a pretty simple answer if you look into their recent interviews about their games. Team Ninja's staff wanted to make Nioh 3 and Koei Tecmo approved. But Microsoft and Phil Spencer specifically approached to create Ninja Gaiden 4, and Team Ninja concluded they are not equipped to make it at the moment, either because they were all busy on Nioh 3 or because they really thought they don't have the skillset for a pure action game anymore. So they got Platinum to make it instead.

Dante is just more popular because he's a classic vidya character from a really iconic era in gaming and he has way more appearances and collaborations and games. Why every single encounter arena is so fucking massive? I get that this alongside big field of view is their design choice to fix camera issues but it really seems like entire game is designed for new MCs AoE weapons and juggle fest. They also added flying swallow launchers on walls to bandaid tier fix combat pacing issue they created by fixing camera but now it seems spacing doesnt matter since new MC has big ass AoE weapons and you can just massively close gap by launching yourself onto enemies from walls lmao. I imagine it's an intentional design decision for the early levels of the game so players can be eased into combat, the mobility options they have, and controlling the camera. Now it could also be a concession to the camera which is a common criticism for the series and genre as a whole but personally I doubt it. I imagine later levels we'll see fights in more interesting environments. Ryu's short snippet in the jungle from the earlier trailer gives me some hope.

It does look good. The more I watch, the more I see how they separated Yakumo and Ryu as representatives for each dev. Like Yakumo has this techno hub thing that looks like it's from Astral Chain but then Ryu has the Muramasa shop. It still feels like an uneven split though, I get the feeling that the dlc "additional content" is going to be an expansion that adds more Ryu based missions and weapon types. In other words, they're going to try and milk old fans and make them pay extra.
