sky FC. It's actually good, the gameplay is servicable, it doesn't shit the writing bed at the end of the game. It's much easier to challenge replay.
Sky SC is also good, but the gameplay is superior to FC, however, the ending of SC is not only bad in general thanks to some very poor writing decisions, but the ending to SC is actually sold as DLC called sky the 3rd. the grinding is much worse in SC than FC. NG nightmare is way more tedious as well.

I don't understand why they didn't remake the entire Sky trilogy if they were going to do this. On one hand I feel like I need to properly get back and finish Sky FC (with Evo mod to give it JP audio and other upgrades. There's a great guide with links to the mods for it. You can upgrade whatever parts you want; some like the old artwork etc) but I wonder if should hold out a little longer for the remake, but if I do that then what..is SC and 3rd to come or is it back to the originals etC?

It just makes the bloating that much more obvious and exhausting, the series already has pretty poor art direction but the top-down view was charming in its own way and you were moving around relatively quickly so talking to npcs and doing quests didn't feel as painful as it did later on. No, it's longer with the voice acting patched installed because... you sit through the actual voice acting. And since so much of the game is talking to people, obviously this nearly doubles its length. Kiseki's main strengths are:

Both of these are in service of making the world actually enjoyable to be in. Like when you go back to these places in SC and see the how everything has changed thanks to Estelle's shenanigans it's really interesting. No other JRPG series gets this right, which is why its one of the very few games in the genre worth playing, because for a brief moment Falcom genuinely understood what these games should be.

They're generally good. A non-spoilery example is an escort quest where the NPC you're supposed to escort leaves without you and you have to find him instead. A lot for the game is like that.

There was actually a quest where you have to puzzle out the correct order to restart a commercial generator, which is accurate to real life, and later I had to do this for real, during the middle of a thunderstorm, with all the doors to the cab locked (I had to drill out the locks and manually rip the cab doors open, rental company be damned for misplacing the key) with an angry mob of 20 people yelling at me. Weirdly enough, this odd bit of trivia from this jrpg saved me from getting beaten up by an angry mob and instead I got a raise because there's no fucking way I would have got that done in a timely manner otherwise.

Every fucking time with you morons. Trails in the Sky is chock full of archaic design choices. It released in 2004 and it very much feels like a game from that that year. To give one example there's a point fairly early on in the game where you're taken to a waiting room full of NPCs and eventually you're lead out so you can attend a meeting with some higher-up. In that room is an NPC who has an item which is permanently missable and is a requirement for one of the "ultimate weapons." Your window of opportunity to acquire this item is after you've talked enough to trigger the event to progress but before you actually leave the room and you acquire it by talking to an NPC in that room which you've most likely already talked to while trying to trigger the progression event.

This establishes a precedent going forward. You either talk to every single NPC in a game bloated with NPCs and dialogue multiple times before/after every single event which occurs just so you can attempt to not get screwed over and miss out on a unique item or you just follow a guide. This is the sort of thing that was everywhere in JRPGs from the mid 90s through the 2000s because the devs often times had deals going with strategy guide companies. Shit was intentionally made obtuse because they wanted you to buy the guide. It's a product of the era. It's archaic as fuck.

It took me over 100 hours for FC and SC due to autistically checking every npc for new dialogue after every event. They fucking encourage you to do this by updating the npc dialogue an insane amount of times, so it’s not my fault. Haha, Gaybreak wasn't very good. Started as an 8/10, ended as a 4/10. The finale is the worst in the entire series by far. The removal of Quartz rarity and the stats that came with them greatly restricts build variety, arts drivers and Holo Cores are direct downgrades from standard Arts Quartz and Master Quartz, and the game doesn't have anything to make up for the removal of Brave Orders. The actual quartz themselves are almost a boring as the ones from Sky. It really is a step back in the ways that matter. The action combat is terrible. It's somehow more braindead than Tokyo Shitadu.

The writing is just as bad as in Corked Shart. You have all the same Falcomisms and tropes. Every single character is defined by their core traits, and every single interaction they have is written from the perspective of these traits, e.g, Victory Jack is a gambler, so any interaction the character has is related to this no matter what the context. Almata is bottom-tier in terms of series villains, and all the attempts at addressing complaints about the writing being immature just comes off as tryhard and still immature.

The soundtrack is the weakest in the series, and it feels like the same 5 tracks on repeat for almost the entire game. The gameplay and progression systems in the game are too barebones for such a long game, and it doesn't even have basic minigames to break up the monotony.

Literally the entire point of Rean's arc is learning to come to terms with shit that has been forced on him against his will and learn to love himself and live his own life. Him being special is integral to his character and the plot as a whole. The reason Rean really isn't a Mary Sue is because he isn't naturally built for that destiny. He needs to grow as a person to become suitable for it. If he actually were a Mary Sue he wouldn't need a character arc.
