Mechanicus II gameplay
What did I think of it?

I hope they kept the Mechanicus characters unvoiced. That's something I liked in the first game, that the techpriests were not voiced, but the Necrons were. I remember a previous trailer where it seemed they may be voiced now.

It's funny that it's still Nucrons even though 5th edition Codex was like 15 years ago.
It is baffling to me though that they never made a C'Tan cultist dynasty that's literally just Oldcrons. I guess their lore still wouldn't be as hype anymore overall, but it would still be a nice option to opt out of the zany tomb king antics.

I get this.
I'm okay with devs trying new gameplay mechanics - it'd be boring to work on the same game from scratch again (they could just make DLC or an expansion pack if they wanted more of the same gameplay as before). But I get not liking those changes too.
That said, the original game has a shitload of replay value. Heaps of challenge runs available for anyone that can autistically play the same game over again. I do that for xcom 2.

Shame about the voices but I'm very much looking forward to the new gameplay. Every character having unique skill trees and their own army is a huge improvement over the last game's system, where the skills were balanced so horribly there was an obviously correct choice every level-up you got. Great example is your first level-up, every single priest you have can dual wield pistols from the start, increasing their range is a no-brainer. It was also very tough to justify using anything but the starter weapons for most of the game, as stronger weapons cost much more cognition than they're worth and you can blast down anything with your pistols. I really only ever added flamethrowers just to squeeze in something ranged with physical damage.

As someone who has been a huge advocate for Mechanicus (I even bought multiple copies), these two things have been a deal breaker:
>No robotic voices
Huge misstep. One of the most iconic things about the first game following the music. A genuinely terrible and costly choice.
>Nagging female commander voices
I know it’s the chud in me, but let’s face it.
This is primarily a male oriented war game. I’m tired of it. It is in every game.
>lack of custom techpriests
Another huge misstep

From what I’ve seen, the vibe of this game feels off. My gut tells me some devs are reading this. If I had to suggest, remove VA for the Mechanicus asap to avoid backlash.

Naw. You don't need to touch the increased range skill. The skill that reduces cognition cost for weapons by 2 or generates 1 cognition if you start with 0 cognition are much better than a little range. Hell, the entire Lexmechanic branch is OP as fuck with the final skill netting you more cognition for getting hit and cool down skill that maxes your cognition. That isn't even mentioning that you can collect all cognition from a node, or get cognition from killing enemies so it incentivizes you to load up on powerful weapon to mass kill more enemies for cognition generation and faster clears. The only thing that will limit you is augment capacity, otherwise you'll load up on weapons that take up 3 or 4 cognition to use. Not only that, but Lexmechanic has some God tier arms with 2 HP and 20% dodge chance so 1/5 attacks just whiff.

Techpriests don't "talk" to each other, they literally use data-based telepathy, where they simply send their thoughts and knowledge to each other in literal data packets, including entire "wikis" or "research/thesis papers" in spans of literal milliseconds. At worst, they "speak" in binary code, especially if the other party's ability to process such data is compromised, or they don't have sufficient hardware or firmware, in which case it can also serve as literal code that programs the other party to be able to comprehend what the techpriest wants them to understand or do.
Now do you get why "regular speech" feels underwhelming for immersion purposes, when it comes to AdMech characters?
