Nothing will change, even if the story gets better, we've had the failings of the systems revealed to us and those must change. The only reason they still have any use is going back to Gather stuff or when new content forces you back there temporarily...otherwise it's this big huge empty expanse that only exists to waste your time while levelling with forced ground travel and finding Aether Currents, and it's been that way SINCE HW. Like that one snow zone right off the bat is mostly a huge empty ice field. The Dragon and Bugman zone later, a big empty green field. I recently tried making some friends in game and after a couple of weeks learned that their favorite activities were to stand around for hours in venues, gposing, talking about mods and taking NSFW pictures of their characters. Some of them talked about RP too, which I have been told isn't exclusively ERP but clearly was not the case here either.

This isn't the type of community I'm interested in and I feel a bit blindsided because I thought I did my due diligence and it seemed like everyone was quiet about this stuff until a light switched and now it's just everywhere in the group.

I'm getting a bit burned out trying to find a community and wondering if XIV just isn't the place for me. I will still play, solo or with acquaintances, but I have never had so much trouble socializing. In person? No issues outside of the norm. In this game? I now know what awkwardness feels like and it's on my end.

Do I just have terrible luck? Am I just somehow talking to the wrong people? Any advice would be great. I'm not trying to be judgmental - I just have no interest in that type of behavior.

Anyone who wants to raid have already finished it. New content gets completed in a day. Some of the other content haven't changed in years (roulettes, maps, crafting, etc.). So you're left with people whose content is to do other people.

I'll tell you from experience; you'll likely need to find a friendgroup, that is actively into the same things you are, from somewhere outside of the game. Either on discord raiding servers, deep dungeon servers, or even SFW-RP circles. The types of people you find in game can range wildly and the people actively going out of their way to seek out in-game RP are probably ERP gooners who treat the game as second life or vrchat.

That doesn't mean you need to cut out your current friends, it does mean you'll probably end up talking to them a bit less as you find more that are into the same things you are. As Reggie once said; if it isn't fun, why bother?

I would like to return to eorzea for a few patches. Catch up on whats what before .5 sets up Blindfrost or whatever since yoshi confirmed the next expansion isnt Meracydia.

Maybe we go to the 1st or 13th for some none end of the world jobber shit and get embroiled in some mystery shit.

One of my IRL friends decided to branch out on his own in-game. Like we don't even play together anymore since he found a different group to hang out with. Sad, but whatever. We talk on Discord outside of game regularly, just don't play together anymore.

But holy shit...some of the stories he shares about his FFXIV friends/FC-mates is just insane. Purely toxic manipulative behavior. On clearly mentally unstable members. And just awful IRL stuff as well. And no one seems to say anything, publicly within their group, about this bad behavior. Just all hushed tones apparently. Like the psychos are still part of the group.

I joke that he's got weird fucking friends, but he's always like, "Nope, I'm just friends with a couple of them who are normal, not those others." Sure I guess...but you're still hanging out with ALL of them in their Discord, whether or not you actually talk to them...

Also noticed that when he's in-game, he'll have the camera icon up on the friends list for hours. Jfc man...Maybe it's a good thing we don't play together anymore. I don't wanna play whatever he's playing. Did not expect that of him, honestly. But whatever, if that's fun for him, it is what it is.

I'm in an FC that I sometimes think is quiet and boring. Some of us will run instances instances together once in a blue moon, but that's it. I've thought about quitting and trying to find another group, but maybe quiet and boring is the best I'm going to get. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise.

starting an fc is rough and probably not worth doing if you are on your own. any active fc i ever encountered was a group from a bigger fc that broke off or people who were playing together frequently already and came with 5 -10 people at the start who were already talking together.

i know recruitment for fcs can be quite tedious and not rewardings because some people who are alone in the game are just a nightmare to deal with and as a woman you will probably be exposed to that more.

Implement FFXI/early WoW style itemization. Weird one-off effects, bonuses to particular traits like DoT ticks, synergistic procs. Remove rotations, prune most "moar damage" attacks or change them into situational buffs and debuffs. Bring back elemental/physical defenses and weakness. Laugh at players who cry during X patch because Y boss can't be damaged effectively by Z job. Add more stacking HoT components to WHM heals while reducing the curebomb potency. Make NIN mudras entirely client-side, you only send the final activated ability. Unused stacks during an ability window(i.e. RPR) don't get wasted, they go towards making it usable again sooner. Status-clearing potions work on any instance of that status, none of the horseshit with bosses putting uncleansable versions on you, with a 15 second cooldown at most.

Vague allusions to "nothing will change" aren't really productive to any conversation, because for all we know the statement might be entirely incorrect or slightly misunderstood or mistranslated, and at best it doesn't point to any part of the battle system in particular that won't change. All of the job kits have been progressively transformed into an 'align your bursts bro' design since Stormblood added job gauges ad infinitum. 'Two minutes' is just the window they settled on in Endwalker; changing burst to be three minutes or one minute doesn't meaningfully address the ennui. The problem's roots are way deeper: we're four expansions deep on potency being focused into SB spenders and ShB spenders and EW spenders and DT spenders. There's no other kind of design, no other kind of gameplay cadence, left in the game except 'burst job'. That's a huge design hole.

I'm not coming back until Beastmaster releases and if Beastmaster is just a half assed blue mage copy where the captures are only on screen to cast their move and then they fuck off I'll simply not come back at all.

I don't agree that deleting buffs completely fixes the problem. Deleting synergy buffs would merely be the start. It would free players to spend their burst when it felt comfortable or necessary for them rather than always holding for the 2m, which would be great, but then the ball would be back in the developers' court to build fights that take advantage of flexible bursting by using intelligent HP-based phasing, and also rebuild job kits so that not every job bursts. Tons of people still lament the loss of sustain-based jobs like old BLM, old MNK, old PLD, and old SCH. That's an entire segment of players for whom the game simply isn't fun anymore.

I can agree that NIN started this by being the first class with a general damage boost window, they are the cause of this although I would say it was a pretty innocent blunder. This was around the time they were giving classes "cool ideas" and such a skill is pretty cool. The problem came when they realized EVERY strategy was being built around it, and instead of limiting its range or reworking its effect, they just doubled down on the actual problem. Foe Requiem is actually a PERFECT example of what Trick Attack should have been, which actually goes in line with how "class synergy" in ARR was already designed.

Job Gauge have nothing to with group burst, NIN's trick attack is the main culprit. HW adding strong BRD/DRG synergy, both complementing that burst while also working perfectly together further shaped how meta evolved. Defensive cooldown had much more of an impact in SB while burst window barely changed, most notable exemple is AST becoming meta-defining exactly when its main burst tool was nerfed.

Job Gauge added absolutely nothing to burst meta, if anything it systematically added pooling ressources as an available strategy everytime it did something that mattered (most of the time it didn't and was a just a different presentation for something that was already there). Like BLM and PLD job gauges were just visual updates, SCH one was healing related and MNK shifting toward burst was a complete accident that beccome what the job was about it just made it more competitive.

That is to say, this game haven't really been driven by strong belief but have tried to please a crowd that don't really know what they want, often because the way they see the game they play is completly distorted. I don't think there's a more game defining moment than when in ShB media a whole room of influencers made a standing ovation for PLD getting a dash. The SB job that was the most oriented arround spending gauge ressources was SAM, and that job not only wasn't meta at any point during the whole expansion, it was also the DPS that was introduced with the most flexible kit in the entire game as you could not only chose when to spend kenki but also have leeway to generate and use sen and upkeep your buffs, on top being able to dash in and out of melee range and had a bouton to reset its entire rotation (that was so globally misunderstood it was actually removed and then put back in the game).

On the other hand, both DRG and BRD gained no spenders were at the top of the food chain because they both shared piercing damage type, had group buff and BRD was the best at levaraging crit in burst, the same way MNK did in HW. NIN was played for trick attack and ennemity management, certainly not ninki. Absolutely no other job could actually pool ressources for burst. The main non raid buffs holding DPS to be played in all SB was SMN, and its job gauge was just aetherflow that doesn't show up on everyone party list. That's the one problem job gauge was trying to solve and what changed meta the most was the removal of damage typing.

You can dislike spenders and gauge, but that's just not how thing happened.

I hope they bring whatever level of writing they had with rubber bullet duels and apply it to a different locale. I'm excited to see how they can themepark tour not viking Scandinavia and not Australia. Maybe even a North Africa equivalent because god forbid what hack job they can do with a Central Africa analog.

I'm not saying what you want from the game is illigitimate and you shouldn't ask for it but your outlook on the game is deformed by online discourse about how the casual and/or SE are out to steal what like about the game. What you have to see is that HW rotations were also fixed, MNK was so strongly static I have to fight myself playing the new version of it because my body is still trying to hit demolition for the DoT even though it doesn't exist. It just cycled faster and kept you busy by having a plate spinning out of cycle. It's a different design more than being a better or worse one and nobody would really throw a tantrum getting one or two plate spinning job in the game.

What really matters a lot though is shorter cycles. Making every healer DoT 30sec did way more harm than removing that one cross class DoT as that short cycle instant cast DoT was doing more than damage and that's what everybody actually want. But when you say "why am I doing less damage" while doing more damage than you used to, you won't ever get anything because it's not what actually happen in the game.

Once you clear a fight for the week, you will punish other players loot if you join a party to help them. This is regardless of if you have won your loot or not, if you clear and join another party to help and clear a second time, other people get punished for playing with you. Savage loot rules aren't really an issue, it makes sense considering how quickly you can rack up gear. As long as the damage hovers around what the original rotation would be, they can design the rotations however they please without invalidating encounters. And to fill in the potency gaps left by missing raid buffs, they can either provide new skills (preferred) or buff existing ones.

e.g. Look at the way Dark Knight is currently designed.

Every "cool" thing they do is currently limited behind cooldowns that can only be up every 2 minutes, because letting you put them on CD outside of windows results in terrible damage, and designing them to be weaker but more frequent also makes them poor candidates for the 2-minute meta burst. As a result, DRK is a class where you have an insane opener, and then essentially fall asleep for 2 minutes.

The craziest thing about this is that, removing the party synergy buff effects doesn't even change how the game works. If they did it TODAY, everyone would still play their class more or less exactly the same.

It would just allow them to be far more creative around the timing of abilities and how classes deal damage in general.

The only thing that actually needs to stay the same is the total raid damage output, which they're already designing classes around because this is what encounters are designed around.

Even if we had an "exec" job, it would still pale in comparaison to all jobs whose burst window offer a stronger option.

Sure, Savage is great as it is but it's tuned with a mindset opposite to skill expression and meaningful choice ; it strongly leans to excellent execution, which is a very elegant design. However, just like any design they could think of, it cannot appeal to all players. Although there can be many and many iterations of this philosophy (we most likely will get an awesome last tier), it cannot provide a context for a talent system or uniqueness. All jobs are designed to have optimal tools to tackle it.

Just because they've spent a long time dumbing things down and improving "quality of life" doesn't mean they don't have ideas for if they change their mind lmao.

Ideas are cheap. Everyone has them. Quite often, they're even pretty good if you spend more than one lunch break thinking about it. Being the idea guy is the easy part.

What's hard is the actual implementation. So even if FFXIV devs had good ideas, it doesn't matter, they seem rusty and slow when you compare them to WoW devs for example. Even if they tried new, good ideas, then no matter how good it will be, it will take tens of iteration to get it right. But their idea of iteration is waiting one whole patch, so they often release content, but don't manage to fix it by the time expansion ends. IS is prime example of good idea with pretty mid implementation, and barely any improvements over the course of its lifetime. By the time it saw noticeable improvement, expansion ended and the content was axed. But WoW or other devs don't hesitate to make quick changes if necessary, that's why their ideas can actually go through.

So that's the main problem. They might have decent ideas, but they don't have capacity to implement any of their ideas properly.

The search for the Golden City ending at Solution 9 (By this I mean Level 99, single zone, tease for a 9th expansion), with the B plot being you and whoever tagged along (Let's say a Wuk that isn't written badly, Krilie and whoever else that isn't the twins) Having to deal with the Claim to the Dawnservant Title, Mostly with Zoral Ja and Bakol Ja Ja and seeing how one falls in despair and corruption while the other slowly rises into an actual hero, this also helping Wuk's character to develop and show why she'd be a competent leader.
Zoral Ja's boss is the 100 fight, Sphene is teased through voice. Next expansion is Actual Dawntrail's second half, the post MSQ shit as well, we find real Sphene halfway through, she takes Wuk's place at the Final fight.

I disagree, any ambitious change would imply mitigating supporting abilities. Then it's either "more of the same" (thus BRD, DNC and the likes behaving like other jobs), or all/some jobs having a selfish skillset that competes with the 2-min meta while having their own agenda.

However, we can assume they won't be ambitious and simply will add another layer of complexity that soon will feel artificial (like managing DoTs as SAM/BLM, upkeeping a debuff like RPR or OC's MNK). Actually, I believe they might take ideas from phantom job, albeit with a deeper system in mind.

Anyway, we can immediately rule out gameplay based on niche strength, such as a job with an execute phase, or one more proficient in multi-target situations. Savage just doesn't want to allow it for balancing reasons. Which is why they won't allow jobs to feel unique, as long as skillsets are designed for Savage.

A positive thing about ShB is that they tried something entirely new. It didnt succeed and was awful for ever involved, but at least it was something. My hopes aren't high, especially given his statements that make it sound they're going to rush 8.0 out the door (breakneck speed comments), that tells me they're going to make incremental changes to setup whatever job rework comes in the future. Their hearts may have been set on doing the rework in 8.0 but it sounds like they had alot more work ahead of them than they realized and had to pare back on this and any related efforts as well, (see DRG/AST 'rework' being underwhelming, sudden BLM changes no one expected or asked for)

I guess people don't know much about the lore. From my understanding, people souls were split up. So everyone alive only has part of their soul not the whole thing. Transcendence is something you can awaken to. One way is by seeing the meteor or something like the meteor that originally killed everyone. You get PTSD. When you awaken what that is you getting more of your soul back. Not all of it just more of it. And so with transcendence you're tapping into the power humanity originally held before everyone's souls were split. I'm probably getting some details wrong but the jist is that current people are not true humanity. They're just fragments.

Or the FC is so small that you're an outsider looking in. An "other" in a clique to which you don't belong and never will. And if you speak out of turn even once, your ass kicked from the FC faster than you can use the "Snap" emote.

2. As others have stated previously, find other players who are into specific activities, such as Hunt trains, fishing, treasure maps, etc. Notice I left out raiding. I did that on purpose. Don't try to make friends via statics. Just don't.

I've only really done some Omega, Alexander Savage and Coils MINE, but I really just can't get into raiding. It's partially a time issue since my job is on-call, but I also just don't enjoy it? Like, completing all these things didn't really make me satisfied or feel good. It's like playing competitive games for too long, it just leaves me feeling sour even if things went well.
I've done plenty of other shit in the game though. I dunno.

It is a surefire way to get one to cancel a subscription and never player the game again. Extremes are the perfect balance between difficulty and playability.
