IDW does not pander to lgbt fandoms. It nods to them. Just barely. It's the closest Sonic has to pandering but I think it gets accused of this by people who are obsessed with culture wars.
IDW has other comics like TMNT that actually suffer from pandering. IDW has queerbaiting at its best.
When Ian was challenged on the subject, his word use was that Tangle and Whisper "aren't officially lesbians". This tells me he isn't nearly as deep in the sapphic fandom discourse as people think he is. If he was, he would know either not to speak or to simply word it as "They don't have a canon sexuality". Instead he said they "aren't officially lesbians".
IDW uses a lot of tropes that are popular in LGBT fandoms. Attempts to make the characters less outwardly masculine. Having characters talk about their emotional state. Trying to keep the female characters from simply being eyecandy. Toning down male characters who are traditionally seen as "gary Stus".
This sort of thing is perfect for infuriating reactionaries. Unfortunately it also happens to lock up against a lot of things from the videogame series that this is meant to be adapting.
To someone who doesn't actually consume media that is actually founded on lgbt themes, this might look like a Pride fest comic. It really isn't. It's wearing the mask of one. It has the aesthetic of one.

Even if you've never played a Sonic game, you could probably identify which characters aren't from the games if someone simply explained that the most emotionally vulnerable characters are OCs.

I find it interesting that the detractors here of the manga have to resort to saying no one cares about it because there's not much discussion on social media while ignoring the fatal context that people do want to talk about it, but can't because they're scared of the copyright claims and accidentally being the reason it gets canned.
When the Shadow manga dropped, it went so far across the internet. If people were allowed to share panels to fuel discussion people would, but unlike IDW, Corocoro is very protective of it's material.
I remember when Blade of Courage's first chapter dropped, Fadel wanted to make a video on it, but realized thats a pending takedown whether it's youtube or twitter.

I think it's fairly obvious why the most heavy discussion of the manga happens here and it's because anons can post full panels and actually talk about what's in them without backlash from the company. It's sad how anti-consumer they are, but at least they are going to make an english release.

I like Tails in chapter 3, and I don't mind the movie influence, in fact I always liked Tails in movie 2. I'm kinda worried about Tails being locked into that role, and movie influence completely taking over, but neither of that has happened so far, so I trust Imada at the moment
I also wish Tails' flight was utilized more, but perhaps it just couldn't fit into the story of this chapter. Tails seems to be sticking around for next chapter(s), and while I doubt he will be the focus again (makes sense, they'll probably introduce Knuckles next) I think that means more opportunities to see other sides of his personality and abilities, so I'm looking forward to that!

The solution is to just abuse the fact that Surge is one of very few people who know that Sonic worked with Eggman and the only who would also blurt it out in front of Angry McRetard the Sheep. Now that Tangle and Whisper are out of the way they can't stop Lanolin from doing a heel turn, and Surge being "good" on paper would further justify both going after him and down a dark path. Kit could then make more bullshit happen and pin it on Sonic, doubt they'd ever write it but it's a pretty easy fix.

The real problem with IDW OCs is that Sonic Team has no mandates on their behavior so the writers run wild with fanfic bullshit.
