the bsb2e seems like a very hard sell to people currently on the quest platform who don't have lighthouses or other equipment. I myself am very curious about what a smaller lighter headset with eye tracking would feel like, but not curious enough to drop ~2000 on a headset + lighthouses + other stuff

its literally measureably on par or slightly better than 144hz index LCD, but the persistence smearing can be an issue for some more than others at 100% brightness

I wonder if they changed something in the BSB2 since I hear this complaint a lot, far more often than I ever heard about it on the BSB1.
Maybe it has something to do with them making the display like 15% brighter or something? BSB1 did also have pretty bad persistence but it really does sound like it's been made worse now to the point almost everyone can notice it and points it out in their reviews of the BSB2.

Unfortunately you will need to lower the brightness to fix this issue. Some retards on their discord claim that they run their headset at 40% brightness and it looks perfectly great, but I think those people are fucking retarded because the display is dim even at 100%

Sorry, didn't clarify. This is a temporary beta access, they're doing that because apparently they're too poor to handle all of those requests for custom machine learning per user. Maybe if you were coming from Index yeah but I think the smearing genuinely is an issue that plagues the Beyond that other headsets don't have. I've done A/B testing with Quest 3 which has good quality and great clarity, and there is like no smearing at all on the Quest compared to the Beyond 1 which feels like constant motion blur.

Heard one reviewer say that the smearing thing is because of them using Micro-OLED, but I have no idea if that's true or if that guy was talking out of his ass.

The only other SLAM headsets are pimax and their notorious for QC issues, but they do have refunds if the problem shows up early enough. Lynx just open sourced their tracking system so hopefully we should see more SLAM options down the line. Oh, and another little thing that made me very happy but it's definitely an accident: somehow, BSB2 solved tracking issues I never knew I had. My body trackers work far, far better now, and one that was assigned to an index radio receiver got a massive boost in accuracy and overall performance (controller was assigned to one of puck receivers, steamvr doesn't discriminate when assigning). Used to have one foot run away to the side, now it's spot-on every time. No idea why changing headset fixed it, but I'm glad it did.

Is there any way to use an Index with only HDMI? I see Displayport adapters online but they all say they don't work with VR headsets. I know HDMI is lower bandwidth but is there really no way to just lower the resolution or framerate? My PC is giant and I want to get a mini one but none of them have DP

That says it works for VR but somebody in the comments says it only works if the USB port is connected to the GPU, and that most laptops aren't. I think this PC I'm looking at uses laptop components, but could it still be connected? Could I tell by looking at the inside of the case? If I can't be sure I might just order one and try it on his PC, it's only $18. If it helps, the PC's manual says you can plug in a display to the USB C.

Cope was the solution, but mine went into the opposite side of the spectrum, I've played a bit of vidya and I've just decided to set it at 140% brightness despite ghosting/smearing. Ghosting is indeed terrible, but I can see how some people don't care about it, it's really easy to ignore it in motion when you're playing a dynamic game. And with that, ugh, I guess I'm moderately satisfied, I won't be returning it. I will keep it in mind when a new cool lighthouse headset appears, though. h-haha

My primary point of hype for BSB2 were colors and blacks, so I really, really, really cannot stand it when I see a candle light on the scene that looks like it's exactly the right color temperature, but quarter the strength/brightness. It's the most annoyingly unnatural thing I can think of, I might be autistic but it is what it is. All in all, it turned out that high brightness has more to offer than it takes away, though it's a crying shame that all of this money still didn't buy me the right to not make compromises.

In case anyone else runs into it, Unity's test framework + VRC world SDK is fucked. The UdonManager that gets loaded into every scene breaks however the PlayMode tests are supposed to work, so you get zero test passes and the temporary test scene doesn't delete itself instead polluting your assets directory.

my vr experience is not that long, I used it for about 2 years and loved every moment of it. I own a quest 2 and quest 3 with a kiwi headstrap but due to circumstances I have to abandon these since Im no longer in the place I can enjoy the luxury of a vr headset. Instead of selling them away on eBay or the local pawn shop, I was thinking of a fun way to give my quest 3 and quest 2 away to others. I would like to hold a party with entertainers. I of course being your eventual King would like to hold an event where I am entertained and the best performers will be the winner of my headsets. What do you all think of this endeavour? im not a regular of the thread so im not sure how you'll think of my proposal. Only usecase is VRChat by people using a PCVR setup with a Quest that isn't a Pro, which is a surprisingly small market, even amongst the already small VR market. People who care suffer with a Pro for face as well as eyes, and everyone else doesn't bother. Bigshit Beyond is selling the eyetracking upgrade on the basis of futureproofing your 1k investment into the headset if eyetracking and foveation become better supported/industry standard, but it's largely useless right now outside of being able to make it clear you're staring at people's tits instead of their eyes.

Coping is the only way in face of no other alternatives. I want a wired lighthouse headset for racing sims and vidya that isn't Index, there's not much to choose from. I can't deny that BSB2 is an substantial improvement over Index, so I'm not willing to rage return it despite the downsides.

I'd never recommend BSB2 to anyone, I'm more than willing to complain about it for making me choose between ghosting and low brightness, but I'm happy I've got it regardless. It's light (even though shitty audio strap doesn't help with the comfort), it's really good in terms of visual clarity, it has oled-tier blacks, software isn't too bloated, it runs exactly as fast as any other wired headset should. Very personal opinion, but it's worth coping about. Though looking at the overall situation, I wonder if I wouldn't be happier with good ol' index for vidya + qpro on the side for VRC purposes. I never had Q3, can't speak for that, my only proper reference point is Index. BSB2 is a massive improvement over Index, it's just as responsive, hundred times sharper, and I can't deny it's a great headset overall. But then, the brightness is low, and if I'll set it to be properly bright, ghosting/smearing is painful whenever I rotate my head. I wouldn't hate on it for $800, but for 1.5x the price of a full index kit, I was hoping for a full upgrade in every aspect, not to be forced to make a choice between having a sharp display in motion or having normal brightness levels.

If I'd want to sell it to you, maybe I'd consider argumenting it with wired responsiveness for fast-paced vidya and single lighthouse playspace if you're using FBT, but I don't want to sell it to anyone given the price point. It's probably not worth it unless you really don't care about money. I will keep it though, it's probably the best option for me for the time being anyway and I've built enough blue balls for headset upgrade to ignore this one aspect of the display that annoys me.

If there's any issue I can think of that's not related to the panel, it would be heat. Headset stays warm even on idle, and the gasket does an excellent job at transferring the heat right onto your face. Combine that with the fact that gasket is covering your eyes completely, and it might become a bit of an issue. I'm not massively bothered by it it's kinda cozy in a weird way, but I can see how someone else would.

Other than that, it's just the panel. Optics are excellent, it's light, FoV is alright enough, and software didn't give me any headaches so far.

Assetto Corsa Evo multiplayer is surprisingly stable. Cars stay where they should, collisions are handled sanely enough. Sometimes, when connection is lost momentarily you do get rubber banding though. Last time I looked they did spin up like 50 servers, but they were all full almost immediately.
They do run race weekend (practice, quali, race) and it's pretty fun when you actually get in. It's hard to get in with friends right now though with server shortage. They really need to release multiplayer.

Game performs slightly better, but still, 5090 is not enough at medium/low settings at 3000x3000 per eye. They fixed a lot of visual bugs though, game do look and especially SOUND very well.
If you want to just jump in and race it might be ok, after they run enough servers.
