Why is it that one Japanese mascot franchise can produce something like Godzilla Minus One, and Sonic gets… whatever the hell Ian Flynn and Evan Stanley are scribbling down?

I'm not kidding. Godzilla Minus One won a goddamn Oscar. It’s a movie with actual weight, praised for its themes of post-war trauma, survivor's guilt, and finding a reason to live. It’s a profound story about the human spirit that also has a giant monster. Christopher Nolan even called it a "tremendous film."

And what does Sonic get? Fanfiction-tier garbage from hacks who wouldn't know real stakes if it bit them in the ass. Godzilla is a Japanese mascot that successfully caters to a global audience without sacrificing its soul. Sonic used to do that in the 90s here in the West, with SatAM and the real Archie comics. We had stakes, we had character, we had rebellion.

Now? Sonic Team and their pet writers are creatively bankrupt. They have no ambition. If Flynn and Stanley ever want to be considered anything more than glorified fanfic writers, they should be pushing for stories with this kind of depth. But they can't. They're too busy turning Knuckles into a gullible moron instead of the pillar of authority he should be and watering down Sonic's rebellious American spirit. It's pathetic.
