Caine is slowly turning the Circus into a torture chamber for the cast. The cast has to escape. They all sacrifice themselves so Pomni can escape. Jax is the last person to do so. He actually remembers most of what happened, before putting on the VR-headset and speculates that he is dead anyway, because you can't survive as long as he did without food or water, so he probably isn't alive anymore. Only Pomni still has a chance to return to her Human body. She wakes up and almost immideately passes out after being in the real world again, because of weakness. The epiloge is a blur and Pomni dreams about the Circus and her imagination might give a clue to what what exactly happened in the building and who the other characters were before they turned into Cartoon characters. In the end we are left with only speculation as she wakes up.

It will take weeks to properly piece together whatever the fucked Pomni dreamed, while in the hospital recovering from the ordeal.

Perfect ending? Caine has a breakdown but ultimately comes to understand that he's a flawed machine, grants his authority over the Circus to Pomni, and as the new game master she sets things up so it's a little less terrible for everyone involved. Adventures go on, the Circus remains hell, but everyone gets to enjoy themselves, so abstracting stops being inevitable.

In my headcanon abstraction means such a physical and mental rejection of the Simulation that your connection to your cartoon avatar gets significantly disturbed, which is why they can't talk anymore and are just black shapes with many eyes. The people themselves are still alive, but they have to be kept in the darkness in a sleep-like state, otherwise their waking consciousness flips out and gets angry again, since they hate being trapped in the circus.

Because any ending where Pomni leads the circus or whatever and "reforms" the system would be horrible. It would run counter to all of the stuff they set up until now. How they were real Humans before all of this, how they put on a headset, how the company shut down and abandoned the building, how Pomni discovered an abandoned building, which runs a simulation, where people are cartoon characters.

How is just staying in the simulation a happy ending? The only compromise I am willing to accept is if the abstracted people get healed. Or at least better taken care of than being stuck in a dark hole for all eternity. Otherwise it HAS TO end with them escaping the simulation. Everything else is just mistery-porn on either a philosophical level or maybe even on an existential level.

Darkness clearly calms them down - if anything, walking around the circus and seeing familiar faces could be a source of further stress when abstracted. Kinger was able to connect with his wife in the dark, Kofmo only became hostile when the door to his room was opened and the one shot we had of the cellar didn't show pure chaos with the abstractions going at each other's throat. Caine might have found the most humane solution for abstractions - probably by sheer coincidence considering his unfaillible incompetence.

He's been around long enough and probably is fine with him, saying he'll finally see his wife again. The other primary candidate I see is Zooble given how she fucks with Caine the hardest by denying his primary function. It could really turn into a "Cain and Abel" moment of Caine just popping Zooble cause he had enough

Thing is, because Kinger normally goes through bits of instability when not in darkness, he likely literally forgets the insults Jax uses for him. He didnt even reject Pomni's notion that he'd forget their conversation in the Huanted Manor, so it possible that while he does have clarity in the dark that he might not fully remember all of it. Traditionally, there need to be some form of change to the status quo to signify the importance of the journey the characters have taken. Given the tone of the story so far leans more towards hope than pure cynicism, this change will likely be positive, fixing some kind of problem the characters had with themselves and their situations at the start. We're 6 episodes in, it's fair to assume that the hidden solution to these problems is not about "gaming the system" by glitch hunting until you break out of the circus (which was the impression you might've gotten from episode 2). The focus is clearly on the mental health of the individuals trapped in the circus. Since it just so happen mental health is the main factor in Abstracting, there's a definite thematic bridge here.

Rewatching episode 2 while watching jax more closely makes me think he really DOES add a key dynamic to the group. Pomni is totally miserable and numb to her surroundings until Jax throws her out of a moving truck. Ragatha is trying to cheer her up in basically every scene, but fails each time. Jax finally just cuts her off and throws Pomni into the middle of the action. It might seem like he's just being a dick, but he immediately protects her with the shoezooka when shes about to get grabbed.. If he only wanted to watch "funny things happen to people" why intervene?
Jax doesn't bother with ragatha or kinger, he lets them just be passengers. Pomni is the only one he forces into playing the game. Maybe he just wanted to see what she would do. But I think this was his way of showing the noob how to adventure properly. Which is directly juxtaposed by the funeral scene, where the others show pomni they are still people and care about each other.

Adventure or not, Jax was still a dick back then, yet in hindsight, it was still one of his lesser crimes he committed. Since then everyone hates him so much, half the time it's just the rest of the cast getting sick of his shit by tying him up in ep 3 or gangle forcing him to watch movies, clockwork orange style in ep 4.
He gets joy from punching down, either NPCs or gangle, a lot of time to just reinforce his bullshit video game worldview. His coping mechanism is his straightjacket, forcing himself to be more and more of a dick, even when he doesn't have to, cause it's more preferable to him than confronting his own trauma and feelings.
The entirety of ep 6, he kept forcing pomni into that same rigid role, and when the fun is already over, he kept pushing her to the edge, baiting her own fear of abstracting alone and no one remembering her. The fact that Pomni only threw the gun at him proves that he was really pushing his luck, and was desperately trying to prevent Pomni from blowing his or her fucking brain out.
Because that's all he's capable of, bandaging over open wound with fakery rather than dealing with the root problem by being real and honest for once. And the clearest solution involves him confronting his own past and true feelings, which he is incapable of doing anytime soon.

The same parallel between Jax/Zooble is Ragatha/Gangle but Gangle is a pet character and is obviously troubled and her happy face is more like mental illness so they can't make her go. Ragatha is Gangle but "bad" and unlike Jax who has established himself as a key character, Ragatha is somewhat of a marginal entity and her problem isn't internal but external as in she wants to be liked (THE most common normal person problem). They'll make her abstract.
