I think that even limited to his Norse kit his durability is a crazy leap for Sonic to clear without the Emeralds.
Combine that with the ability of Draupnir to absorb esoteric elements and I think he could hurt Super Sonic.
I don't think he could actually beat Super Sonic because of speed difference, but it wouldn't be totally simple for Sonic either.

I have no doubt he tried, but he was fucked from the start. His style of animation is manual manipulation.
Because of this style, you can also see that his facial expressions are all jaw waggling rather than more natural mouth movements.
This wouldnt be a problem on older and simpler rigs like Asura, Cell, and Kermit, since they don't look "off" on them.
Norse Kratos' face has more tris than Asura's entire model.
Kratos (both eras) was animated using mocap and also headtracking cameras.
Mocap isn't expensive, but it is hard and time consuming.
Headtracking is expensive, time consuming, and specialized.
DA can eventually get these more intricate motions through his techniques, but it takes time and it doesn't have nearly as much reusability.
The test animation/intro for the fight is a result of that sort of commitment.
That's not even getting into the difficulties that DA always has with environmental design and destruction.
That it came out as well as it had is a signifier of DA's crazed passion
