answer only the questions asked truthfully and succinctly. do not provide or confess to information not asked for, even if you think they'll ask for it later.

for example

right:
"have you ever used drugs"
"yes"
(follow up questions)

wrong:
"have you ever used drugs"
"yes, i've used x, y, z blah blah blah, oh I used to deal to my friends too, and i used to launder the money by doing this..."

Working on a multi-team feature and we recognized that we need a redesign of some component. The retarded roastie PM asked me who is going to work on that fix, and I told her that I don't know, Team B owns that component, I work on Team A, I will do nothing about this, it's not my problem (I'm not a lead at all btw, I'm not expected to know). Turns out she just forgot or some shit or was too incompetent to ask Team B, so she just ended up assigning the task to me and told the project lead that I've been working on it. Got asked in the weekly meeting when is it going to be done since I've been working on it for weeks. Fucking retard making me look bad, no I'm not working on this, I know nothing of how it works and my team doesn't own that component and in fact the team that does own it is in another country

Nobody in my team is willing to have more than a 5-second conversation but we still have to come in. Manager across the country. Everyone just comes to their desk, sits quietly for 8-9 hours with a short lunch (which everyone gets on their own), then goes home. I'm not the most social portion in day-to-day life but somehow I'm the only one bothered by this miserable solitude. But I feel like I'd be making a mistake if I leave my Big Tech Company for somewhere unknown that might want to work me harder

Lol, that image reminds me of a story.

I was working at an NFP group a few years back. They had a Wordpress site that accepted credit card donations. This was like 80% of their revenue.

Every so often, someone would shut the fucking lid on the laptop that ran it and they'd lose the ability to accept payments. I argued time and time again to let me build a $15 VPS that would take this cluster fuck away but noone could approve the expense.

Anonymous No.106333370
>>106333162
Exactly. Whenever they meantion something as β€œnot a problem” unprompted you know it’s a serious rumour (because it’s true).

I worked for a transportation years back and during the interview they just stated that their budget isn’t an issue.
Turns out they wouldn’t pay for anything. Certainly not for training. My coworker was denied a $25 book on a topic he needed to research.
The company was retarded anyway and I soon left. They never took anything I suggested seriously (until I left). I tested a Palo Alto Firewall in only transit mode and it found several botnets on their network. The leadership still didn’t want to even address it. They paid AT&T $35/mo per device for their full tunnel VPN device back to a central point to filter all traffic. It was hundreds of sites and it was slow AF. They wouldn’t even consider an alternative to that design.
Their β€œbig massive innovation” project was moving their data center from their office to a 3rd party Data Center.
The best part was talking with truckers on the phone on helping them setup their networks. They always had interesting stories

I think i finally figured out why i fail so many HR interviews
You have to open up a bit, you need to make some kind of a human connection, when you talk add some info that isnt necessary but makes the conversation more cordial. You truly have to open a bit to them
I just tried that out and the woman also opened up a bit and said some things about her that are not necessarily work related. It makes them think that you would fit in the team and environment better. Is that correct?

This checks out pretty well. The bigger issue other than population size differences (chink 900mil-1.4bil estimate) is likely how PhD programs are conducted in each country. If you or your advisor cannot find something for your PhD then that slot has no reason to exist. If they cannot get funding to add those slots and pay the students who obtain such PhDs then these slots will not be filled. Industry compared to academia can only add so many extra slots and likely they would rather take someone who has a PhD and finished a post doc then prop up one of their own for 5 years of schooling that might not pay off even if it results in a new product down the line.

If PhD's paid 60k yr alot more people would be doing it but often then not its 25-40k range per student per year and even less.

If you can get away with whistle blowing why not.
Or you could make a big show of it and quit but I don't know what that would accomplish other than impressing on your coworkers that it might be time to jump ship.

Just spent the last hour installing 64gbs of ram into dell desktops that only had 16gbs of ram. These PC's are some intel 12000 series CPU. Meh company wants to be cheap and extend the PC longer since its out of the warranty window then that's on them. The real concern is since we are a larger company we never had to do this before. I figure at this point the market is fucked so this was their way of saving money. Normally they would do a tech refresh after 5 years but this pushes our refresh for another 3. Shits fucked if they are counting pennies on refreshes.

Seems like mass quitting/moving is a common theme across all work places. I am currently trying to plug that hole before it gets worse. We are losing(4 fired, 1 retired , 1 quit) since the start of the year and might even lose more as work gets piled onto less people. I cannot even poach enough people to fill the slots anymore. Worried its just going to be me and 2 other people working 6x12's if this continues.

I did this recently at the unit, but down by an order of magnitude. Spent that time gutting a big pile of "old" dell desktops with a few ODs who had never seen inside a computer before, at least training them that far and answering their questions on both the administrative and plain hardware whys and hows. I think I got more performance review points out of attending a CMS refresher with a junior and telling him bold-faced "Yeah, we (in our trade) never use this. Its generally what happens with contractors. You would rather fuck it up for 100-200$ then pay 2x-5x the rate to get it actually fixed correctly. Good that you are moving on. I spent 200$ trying to do window tinting myself after watching a few hours of content on it and fucked it up. Now i said screw it I am just not going to pay someone else 700$ to tint. It was worth my time to find out if i could but now i realize it's not worth paying someone else. Very common mentality amongst most people. Phone repair is fairly big since its 150$ or less for a phone worth 800-1200$ which might extend the life out for 2-3 years so mentally its worth it if you break out the purchase cost amongst the years.

But yes move on no contact no problem. Happens all the time long term friend ship only exists with long term work/club/hobby relationships. Girls are more fleeting on the matter but some friendships like this can last longer until she is married. At that point both male and womens groups transform into married couples going out so very hard to keep the original group together.

I messed up my original question. I didn't mean pay as in "get someone to fix it and pay them", but as in "compensate her for the stupid thing I did". I wanted to give her $200 for the trouble I caused, even though, again, I don't think it was my fault (knowing her, I think she probably tried to fix it herself or had a female friend try that, moved it elsewhere and it felt or some shit, and killed it). I feel really bad when I remember what happened, in particular the fact that she needed the laptop at the time (even though she had previously told me that she was NOT in a hurry... she's a dumbass)
also, she wasn't a long term friend. we had met only a few months earlier through Tinder. that's what caused the confusion in the first place...

A dev on our team got fired a couple of weeks back, I was on PTO so I wasn't around for that announcement. My manager and SM were pretty weird about it and offered very sparse/vague information, something about "low performance" - and that was that.
This guy wasn't the #1 performer on the team but he was still pretty good at his job, hell he was better than me on some things. Never caught any vibes that he was being lazy or slacking off. And even if he was wouldn't they at least put him on a PIP or something first? What are the chances he wasn't fired for performance at all and it was some nefarious criminal shit and they were just being all PC about it? This shit feels off

I have had a few where I didn't do shit.

1. Was at a major automotive company that rarely let go of their people. It was mostly due to a lack of tickets but I still had imaginary work as some of my supervisors could not see the writing on the wall.
I tried my best there but once I was in limbo (as was like 50% of the company) I stopped caring about pretending, even got called out on a 1 on 1 performance review with my boss (another supervisor called me out), and straight up told him that it didn't really matter, did it? but he just moved on like I didn't mention it and the whole team was out of a job a few months after that. This went on for about a year, after 3 months I stopped caring and after another 6 I stopped pretending (literally would sleep in office chairs, play vidya with other coworkers, would go into the office for an hour to chat then leave, etc.)

2. Was at a shitty contractor job where I was told it was going to be 100% remote. The pay wasn't bad, especially fresh out of uni. After 3 months all the new hires got pulled into a call and told that we had to go to in office, after that my full time job became looking for a new one and studying. spent 3 months like that, never delivered a thing.

Manager new in this role here and I've noticed that our developer is getting burnt out. Would really appreciate some advice here.

We promised him a promotion but due to company layoffs we had to put it on hold. I think I have a sense on why he's getting burnt out in that most of his projects usually get taken from my boss and sad to say but the goalpost keeps constantly moving even if we have shit in a steady place. A lot of our projects are mostly working on documentations that list business requirements for projects that are upcoming but we have no idea when that'll be entertained by the other teams yet. A lot of projects have been put into pause because of the layoffs and our projects keep bouncing back and forth. Tell the top tier that you've got an offer and want to try and accelerate things with them. In the mean time tell the low tier that you'll accept. But don't start until you'd have an answer from the top tier.
Worst case the top tier gives you an offer and you absolutely take that position. Just apologize to the low tier to not burn bridges. These things happen.

no retard, most people actually hate them because even if you appreciate the gift, the recipient will resent the gift card itself because it's usually hard to actually spend it down to 0.

even if you will be a typical HR karen and replace actual work-life balance and job fulfillment with food and drink coupons, you should just show up with the tankard of coffee and box of timbits directly. (and despite workers making fun of it, availability of reasonably healthy or at least filling snacks does help morale)
