I had a USP Match clone with LTTโs trigger job and optic cut I regret selling. The thing printed one hole groups at 7 yards, ridiculously easy shooting. The stock gun didnโt come with the match kit, the match kit improved the SA pull, made the reset a little bit worse, and didnโt do anything to the DA pull. The MK23 has a better trigger than the USP stock so itโs probably a perfect gun, the LTT MK23 already has most upgrades to it

it appears only one specific company was making barrel blanks the width of the slide. Most people just thread on the end and weld it in place.
it's more like the one people who would make such a barrel at a price reasonable for nighthawk and Wilson Combat (who also recently discontinued their wafer barreled lines) is going under. probably because they didn't charge enough for the retarded machine work to make a huge barrel blank

Im sure the ltt trigger is great. Ive only heard good things about them.
Im not sure how i feel about their acro plate. Probably works fine but a direct mount looks cleaner to me and i dont plan on swapping optics so a plate system doesnt give many advantages.

Their plate system for the 92 and PX4 is great since the design gets the dot at low as possible for a ~.85 inch height over bore which is decent for a plate. The plate system for the HKs donโt make as much sense, as you can direct mount them.
The plates use 3 4-40 or 3 short 6-32 but pretty sure 4-40 screws to mate to the slide and use CH precision T nuts to mate the optic to the plate. The plate utilizes a dovetail shape and a lug on the slide to act against recoil, itโs a decently made plate. For the 92 and PX4 which there is no other option that it makes a lot of sense. For the HK you could use thicker screws or even direct mount the optic. Itโs kind of lazy for Langdon to reuse the 92 plate design but with different mounting holes for the HK but as plates go itโs a thin plate system and their offering of all in one package with zeroโd BUIS (mostly zeroed) in opinion is cost effective.
Yeah I would just buy a MK23 and optic cut it from whoever does those direct mount that retains the original irons but I would be hesitant about getting an acro cut since Aimpoint seems to be perfecting the enclosed optic with the COA optics currently only for Glocks.

On smaller guns like a glock 19 i like irons in front of the optic but on a massive gun like the mk23 i think id rather keep the full length sight radius.
Sounds like the move if i do get one is to get the LTT trigger and find a different company to directly mount the optic to the slide.
I havent heard much about the COA besides it exists and a hypothetical benefit about the mount securing it in two axis. I am upset about another footprint being added to the everlonger list so maybe i will hold off to see which way the market really goes. I was hoping when the military adopted the sig they would choose a more common mount instead of yet another proprietary solution.

Specifically the underlug, where the laser mounts. Wondering if I'd be okay buying a new production 686 or if I should just find an older one.

I got this when my inflammatory condition was raging and racking slides and recoil were my enemy. Now through modern medicine it's tolerable and I'm at a crossroads for my next purchase. Do I get a more powerful carry gun to replace the tomcat or do I get a full-size to compliment it? I thought of getting some variation of the 92fs because recoil is still an issue for me and it being DA/SA would make it easier for me to train my brain for both the tomcat and 92 and make the 1st shot more consistent in a dangerous scenario. My other option is to get a compact striker-fired. Issue with that is I'd feel like I wasted money on the tomcat and training would be harder on my hands due to being made of polymer and smaller. Upside is a more viable carry gun.
Some more info is I don't train often, I haven't even gone to the range yet because of my health. I don't expect to buy another gun for a long time. Currently I'm leaning on getting a 92, if I can find an inox for a decent price then my guns would be a matching set alongside the benefits I stated. But my glockbro friend says the 92 is trash and I should move to a more modern gun. He says it's cheaper to get a striker-fired and use the excess cash on an optic but I'm not sure I will train enough to make that useful.

Optics are a negative on a gun if you donโt train how to use them, but they allow you to do great training at home without ever firing a gun since the red dot gives you constant correct feedback about what the muzzle is doing when youโre dryfiring.
I find the PX4 compact while slippery without grip tape which might be a negative in your case, to be extremely soft shooting, perhaps softer shooting than a 92 but I might be insane. You can get low recoil 9mm ammunition both range and self defense loads, I was shooting some subsonic 150gr 9mm out of my PX4 I swear I could perceive how slow the slide was cycling.
As the other anon was saying, hammer guns can be easier to rack since you can lower the recoil spring and hammer spring weights. You can also separately cock the hammer and then rack the slide to make it even easier. Competition hammer guns could run springs so light you can rack the slide by punching the air (if the hammer was already cocked).

imo it's the opposite, I've had the fun of bringing some friends to the range who did not shoot before, and red dot adoption is instant. You press trigger and hole appears where red dot used to be.
Iron sights are always a struggle at first - do you focus on target, or the front sight, which is awkward, is the point of aim top of fuckhueg dot that is larger than 8 circle of the target, or the center, which covers the target completely? etc. Then there are guns with fixed sights and retarded sight picture, like some revolvers with gutter rear and front dot - center of the dot is aligned with top of gutter for poi and the dot covers target, it's awkward.

>Irons are more intuitive since you have to line up two things in front of you
it might seem intuitive from where you are coming from, you can likely rack focus from target to sight and back quickly and effortlessly, but consider first day at the range, when people don't necessarily train for self defense yet, but treat it more like an axe throwing event or bowling, they just want to hit the middle of a circle on a sheet of paper, and for that, they typically need to use sharp front sight and aim at blurry target
for a lot of people "focus on" means "look at", they can't just refocus eyes on sights while looking at the target, and operate kind of like an early digital camera - to focus on something they must recompose such that it must be in the middle of their field of view
it's a big hurdle to overcome during first few shooting range sessions, and red dots just don't have it, it's a perfectly sharp video game crosshair that floats on top of perfectly sharp sheet of paper, it's more enjoyable

I think he referring to general sight alignment and not sight picture. If you are new and don't have a consistent draw, it's intuitive to line up two different things. Front sight is above and to the right of the rear sight? Point it down and to the left
If you hand a pistol with a RDS to a novice, they tend to swivel it in their hand until they find the dot because it's not totally intuitive what direction to move the gun to aim it.

Glocks came into being by undercutting any competition for police duty firearms. Originally Glock was going to sell them for ~300 dollars to U.S. civilians (while still making a profit) but he was told that pricing it low would make people think itโs cheap crap so he priced them higher at 500.

Gaston was a hero of the people, 300$ at the end of the 80s is like 800$ today, so there is that
More PCC than pistol, but still relevant since the only way to do this even quasi-legally is with a brace, which technically counts as pistol carry:
What is your opinion of B&T's concept of carrying an off-body backpack gun, and upon drawing it, using the backpack as a makeshift chest rig, for drawing mags, dumping empties, keeping a ballistic plate, or getting whatever else you need?

A small backup gun will never be a waste of money, one should aim to have many guns.
Also I won't lie, I love the 92, but if you want something a little smaller for concealed carry the 80x still has similar controls to the tomcat and 92 minus the tilting barrel. 380 is a little better than 32 as well.
And don't discount using an optic for the sole fact that a solidly mounted red dot makes the slide 10X easier to rack. I strain myself less racking a 10mm with an optic than pushing the tomcats barrel latch with my thumb and pushing the barrel down. And the 80x is optics ready.

I think I'll test borrow some of these at the range if they're available. Maybe they don't have the cheetah but a 92, some striker-fired etc. I'll keep the optics thing in mind, one of my choices was S&W 2.0 OR.

Market being fucked, the price difference between a springfield prodigy and a ppq Q5 SF with the nicest trigger is 300 to 500โฌ (Q5 is the more expensive). Guns like the nicer bull (with the slide cuts and other nice stuff) are 1k over the Q5. Also regarding 9mm 1911/2011, I have a reliability worry. I've so many conflicting takes.

Ruger is sending me another without even asking for pics in typical Ruger fashion, but I should probably just put a Glock one in. Since I don't carry it I'm just gonna run the Ruger one and see what happens
Also important to note that it failed in a way that didn't actually fuck the gun up; I'm sure if it cracked differently it could have fucked with the striker positioning more.

I find actually that the dot has made me a much better irons shooter since to use a dot you must develop the skill to be able to draw the gun and be aimed in such a way that you donโt have to find the dot as itโs already there on the target where you are looking.
Shooting rapid fire with the dot is so much easier, I can watch my dot = muzzle dance up and down on the target

If you buy a pistol its a random one the shop has. If a relatively large audience reviewer buys or tests a pistol they get a specialy selected pistol. When stoger gets a pistol its inspected three times, sent to a gunsmith, refitted and molded to his spec. Then if it has issues they fix it for him. Oh, and they send him a big envelope of cash to say nice things about them.
My experience with tangfolio and what I have seen, and read. All infuriating. That bad.

I'm so mad about my new 686, it was missing the roll pin on the front sight. I called S&W and ended up having to email pictures to get them to understand, they respond I'll have to send it in and lead times are 8 to 9 weeks to fix it.
What the hell, that's not acceptable to fix a front sight. I could put in a roll pin but drilling a tiny hole in the metal sight blade would be a pain in the butt. Unbelievable.

I haven't shot it like I have the other 8 micro 9s I've tried, but I did just finger fuck one 2 days ago. The trigger feels like a heavy DA revolver trigger and the grip texture just isn't aggressive enough for a tiny pistol that you're going to need every bit of help to hold on to.
The taurus gx4 is $100 cheaper AND comes with 50 rounds of Hornady critical defense hollow points through the rebate. It has a better trigger and grip texture. I'd reccomend that as a cheap tiny gun if that's the angle you're persuing.

Shot 100 rds monarch, 100 rds winchester white box and 20 hornady black xtp. Zero light strikes. That's way too vague to say as the 92 is more of a platform than any one gun.

I believe most PX4 shooters, including myself, can attest to the gun having less "felt" recoil. Whether that is solely attributed to the rotating barrel or not is up to further debate. Personally, I would pick the PX4 Compact over the 92 due to concealability alone.

I had wanted to shoot 450 rounds to bring the gun up to an even 1k but the blister I developed yesterday where the 10 round mag and seam of the 12 rounder sits on my pinky rubbed off and with another 250 rounds down range without any malfunctions at all I think I have it isolated to the AAC being the issue. Still probably worth the 6cpr savings over other brands it was when I got it on sale. I guess the HST issue can just be chocked up to break in period.

I shoot better groups with this baby of a gun than I do with most compact pistols. I'm loving it so far lads. The QVO pocket holster is also great, the plastic wing is made out of grippy polymer that grabs your pocket material and pulls the gun free. Really clean quick release, that was 100% reliable in 3 of the 4 pairs of shorts I tried it in. The lounge shorts I tried it with have giant loose pockets and it just couldnt latch onto any material. I'd reccomend it to any other BG 2.0 owners out there looking to try something

What's the fishy holster?
Not sure what the reaction will be to my question but I figure the hanguns gen probably the best place to ask.
I'm new to handguns (mostly shoot long guns, though I have fired handguns) and have a (probably autistic) idea to get a first handgun in .22 for the purposes of training better shooting posture, the idea being that using a lighter round will allow me to just focus on posture, grip and maintaining sight picture, while also doing so in a relatively cheap round (also I figure a plinking gun is just fun to have for when I go with friends to the range)
Is there some merit to my thinking or am I being retarded and should just get the real gun and train with 9mm / .45?

The thing is grip matters for both consistent trigger pulls as well as managing recoil, so your grip may be unsuitable for heavier recoiling rounds.

You can certainly do some training with .22; grip, presentation, trigger pulls, sight alignment, not to mention having a ton of fun. But ultimately THE hurdle to handgun shooting is recoil, which you cannot practice with .22. Your monkey brain will destroy everything else you've worked for once you introduce recoil. If you want to learn to shoot handguns, you'll have to practice with 9mm or greater. That said .22 is fine as an introductory gun and like I said it'll always be a fun addition to your stable! I still use .22 to "warm up" when I haven't shot for awhile and I ALWAYS bring at least one .22 just because low recoil is a hoot to shoot
Side note: if your goal is to carry, you need to get started on making recoil part of your training, and because your control of it fades with time you need to keep on it
tl;dr Get both imo

There is absolutely merit to it, and luckily for you the arguably best 22lr pistol atm is cheap as shit. For most people training on a full size handgun is easiest, but as long as you don't get retarded and buy a tiny micro compact I have faith you will figure it out just because you're doing due diligence and asking here, which means you will probably bother to look up grips and training guides.

Thanks for the replies; recoil was the thing that the more reasonable part of my mind was pointing out, but I figured it never hurts to ask. Still, the local store usually has cheap SA revolvers in .22, so for plinking I might pick up one of those.
If you mind a more subjective question, is there any obscure pros v. cons between hammers and strikers, or any personal opinions on them? More asking about people's experiences with them because I'm conflicted- I like the form and some of the operation of hammers (yeah I'm a diet fudd) but I can't deny the easier operation of strikers (and I do like the look and feel of the PPQ a little).

I don't think the practicality of either should figure in to your decision, neither is really superior. Hammer I guess is "safer" but striker is more consistent. Opening this question up to the general.
My only experience with carrying revolvers is the bodyguard 38. Man that gun sucked to shoot. Hogue grips made it better. I also had a part in the lockwork break lol, all of this kind of ruined me on wheelguns, but I'm looking to get back into it. Eyeing a GP100, and the 7 round cylinder feels like I'm getting slightly closer to parity with autoloaders. Also feel like I ought to consider the sp101 but the difference between 5 and 7 rounds feels big. Any thoughts from the peanut gallery?

GP100 is absolutely massive, it's 686/Python sized. The smallest six shot carryable 357 is probably a 4 inch model 66, or a Colt King Cobra, or a Kimber K6S
You should forget about muh capacity (it doesn't matter) and settle for a six shot, you really have no clue how overbuilt the guns get to give you 7 shots. It's not worth it, they get massively wide and the grips get longer because they're primarily for target shooting and hunting

In my 100 rounds of experience, you need your dominant hand higher up on the gun so your support hand doesnt fall off the bottom/settles in, but when you get your firing hand up higher you get slide bite and it hurts. A beavertail solves this pretty well.
You can overcome the lack of frontstrap texturing and the small safety but I feel like a beavertail is kinda necessary to shoot a 1911 two handed

Have had hundreds of magnums through mine with no issue, but honestly just stick to standard pressure buffalo bore .38 special wadcutters for carry. 150gr 960fps out of a 3" barrel

Olt Naconda, itโs very nicely finished and well made but the stock grips only cover 3/4 of the frame, with the back sticking out proud of the grips themselves. Makes shooting .44mag more of a chore than it needs to be. Also the rear sight basically needed to be glued in place and was too narrow apertured to be that useful.

Slide and rail dimensions are the same, but the 2011 has shorter rails. The only thing that is different is the frame, trigger bow, and the grip assembly.

The PDP and VP9 are almost the same gun but the PDP has a much better aftermarket and options so the only reason to consider a VP9 is if you are a massive H&K fanboy or you're larping as someone who carries a VP9 like a German cop or something.
If you want a range toy the PDP is still.the best because it was designed as an optics host whereas the 92FS doesn't even have an optics cut and you have to get a Langdon aftermarket cut.

92FS because itโs classic. DA/SA allows you to get a lot of practice with different triggers in just one gun. I find them easy to field strip and clean but going down full disassembly takes some practice (and a big plastic bag to catch springs when they go flying). The base gun โsucksโ (itโs perfectly serviceable), and can be upgraded for not much money trigger wise to be completely serviceable

Objectively not the best shooters in the world for the type of gun he was designing, that would be competitive defensive shooting league winners from USPSA, IPSC and the like. He didn't even consult military or police, the market he was targeting.
Consulting target shooters for a military pistol would be like consulting top fuel dragster drivers on how to design a truck. They don't know a fucking thing except how to go in a straight line for a known distance.
