Kris getting possessed was almost certainly part of the plan that they chose to participate in.
Everyone who knows about you, hero or villain, knows that YOUR POWER is necessary to accomplish their goal and save the world.
This is not a "You are bad for playing the game story" and it's not going to be even if Susie gets upset and confused when she finds out she's the last to know what's going on

The dissonance between you and Kris is absolutely intentional, though if you're really trying to "roleplay as Kris"/let Kris do what they want, you can ease that friction.
I wouldn't say it's trying to "invalidate the good feelings" of roleplaying and being part of a game world. Despite what retards on /v/ have parroted for 10 years, Toby Fox does not think you are a bad person for playing a video game, especially not the one he sold you. It is supposed to make you feel self-conscious about playing the game, to make you aware of the separation between yourself and the character you're playing as in a way that's even meant to be uncomfortable sometimes. But "you" are not any less part of the story and the world, and even though the situation is complicated and hard for even you to understand, your connection to the world and the changes you bring to it will be (can be, depending on your choices) a good thing. You were, and you are, necessary to bring this story together and create a new future. They can't do it without you.

Only retards think the game is woke. Its like lefties forcing the idea that Sailor Moon is woke and only meant for liberals for having gay sailors in it. Toby is with universal message about friendship and family. He cherish family enjoying Christian holidays and mass at the church. Toby is great at writing "good" characters like funny comic reliefs or monsters with heart of gold or old mentors but he suck at making actual evil and disturbing villains. Flowey was the best he got and he just felt like some mean brat at schoolyard.
