It's extremely hamfisted. The entire reason the Anubis exists is because he looked at the stats and realized fucking nobody used the paladin defense system... The worst part is that he half udnerstands why that's the case. The weapon just doesn't work in the large slot. It's too valuable to be dedicated to PD and any ship that COULD spare a large energy slot for a paladin is one that would be even better by any of the other options because large energy weapons are the best ones in the game.
He should have just downsized the paladin to a medium mount. Instead he made a frankenstein ship with extremely specific and artificial restrictions to guarantee it only ever used paladins. He might as well have just made them built ins and have the Anubis be a unique one-off ship.
