>There's an aspect of Darkness that requires us to observe it for it to exist though I think, or at least for Darkners to exist.
I'm not sure. The Prophecy seems to frame it as if the Light World and Dark World had always existed, and will continue to exist after "the Worlds (plural) are saved."
Most of the Darkners we meet were implied to have been "created" by Kris and <the girl> playing make-believe. Or maybe they already existed. The Dark World is supposed to be "imaginary" and not encroach on the Light World, but despite Ralsei's protests, he and they are very much still "real."

>I've seen people say Toby is intentionally going for Bible references though, any other examples?
This bit in the Chapter 4 Secret Room is alluding to The Book of Revelations.
>And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
>And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the bitter waters.

>The Knight is some fucked up thing made of darkness and glass
>The Knight's only identifying characteristics clearly and undeniably connect them to Dess
>perhaps Dess has somehow been transformed into The Knight as a consequence of being lost in the dark for years, as implied by various cryptic clues within the game
>"no that's impossible because Dess was Dess and The Knight is The Knight"
Do you have any actual arguments or counterexamples that would satisfy the conditions you're holding DessKnight to or do you just like arguing in circles like a contrarian faggot

The Knight can operate freely in the Light World and they have the Determination necessary to create Fountains. They are, or were, a Lightner.

We are not trying to find Dess. We are an outsider brought in by a mysterious force for reasons we're not even sure of.
"Find her" is the motivation driving the story for the actual cast of the game. It was Asgore's job to "find her" but his obsession with a hopeless case broke his family apart. Noelle naturally wants to find her sister. Kris knows more about what happened to her than they're willing to tell anyone. And of course Carol wants to find her daughter, to do whatever it takes to find her.
Based on our understanding of the situation with Kris, Carol and The Knight, it seems like Carol has "found" her, but whatever happened that turned Dess into The Knight has made her not quite just Dess anymore. It's not as simple as just taking her home.
It seems likely that Carol's agenda, which she has guilted Kris into going along with, is not to "find her" but to save her, to bring her back to normal and make things right, the way they used to be. That's the narrative arc that Chapter 3 and 4 have set up: returning to a better time that isn't here anymore, being a family again.

The worship of the Angel is transparently a Christian analogue (culturally and aesthetically at least) and there's cultural Christian language like Christmas and "oh my God" because Toby is an American writing for a culturally Christian audience and it's always better and easier to just leave that alone instead of doing the cringe thing of swapping in the fictional knockoff religion (eg. "oh my Angel")
The overtly Christian symbolism and references are mainly meant to be noticed and interpreted by the player. I would still treat it more culturally than theologically. Gaster is a clear Satanic archetype but that doesn't necessarily mean he's evil or even an antagonistic force (to the player). The player is "The Angel" but we can also be "the demon heart," just like Noelle has the most "angel" symbolism in the story but can be twisted into a force for evil. Remember that "angel" just means "messenger."

The Black Glass is some kind of tainted Determination/"crystalized darkness" in the same way that the Shadow Crystals are crystalized Determination
Dess was lost in the Dark World contained in the Shelter and was transformed into The Knight by being exposed to the Black Glass

A Black Shard?

It's a physical object
Shadow Crystals are crystalized hopes & dreams, physical Determination
The Black Glass is its opposite, physical darkness, whatever that means
