Lots of newer games have options to turn this off, some even have options to literally remove the splattered yellow/white paint from items in order to force you to look for yourself.
Shitty games? Maybe. But Star Wars: Outlaws and STALKER 2 are two recent games I can think of that actually allow you to turn off those assists. The recent Mafia: Definitive Edition also had an option to turn off "in world" objective markers and make you have to actually think for yourself and look for objectives like the original game did.
On the other side of the coin, you've got the shit like what Death Stranding 2 has been pulling with their "babby journalist" mode.
