Obviously I know my theory, I have read every single book on the repo. My decision was ALREADY based on theory I know, so what exactly would I learn from examining a situation I already acted upon, unless I missed out some tiny detail that would have affected my judgement? I've reached the point where time constraints rarely alter my ability to process the pond well.
I ask the opinion of a stronger player to add to my pre-existing knowledge, since mahjong is extremely situation dependent, and every new haipai or push-fold decision breaks the theoretical principles in some way. I would never know when or how to break the rules without guidance from an experienced teacher.
But what exactly do the rules mean? Fundamentally, mahjong DOES NOT have any real basis of right or wrong. Even books are just condensed teachings of opinion over a general scale, whereas NAGA/MAKA/Mortal reviews are opinions over a micro-scale. Of course you learn significantly from consulting them, as you would a book.
