It's not just about understanding the plot, but understanding what the fan expectation out of the setting.
Just take the very first scene for example:
- In the game, you're tasked with commanding Yuuka, Suzumi, Chinatsu and Hasumi against the mobs. Yuuka tanked a shot from the Tiger tank, showing those girls are resilient, without having anyone to even explain it.
- In the anime, 3 sukeban mobs fought the pompadour bots, and explaining that gunshot does nothing to them. Then it just cut to Sensei getting lost in Abydos. The prologue with the 4 starters only happened briefly in the 2nd episode.
Narrative and spectacle wise, it's a complete downgrade from the game. They could've just adapt the prologue exactly as it was, but they just choose to change it completely for some reason.
Think about it, which one is better? Yuuka getting shot at by a tank or some random mob getting shot at by baby lead bullets?
