It's an ancient (10k+ years old) spaceship graveyard. It has millions of ships, hulks, wrecks and planetoids in a debris ring around a stranged, haunted dark matter star. It has way more ships present than should be in Koronus, so it might be dragging them in from across the galaxy via the Warp or there is some sort of time displacement effect going on. It is inhabited by various kinds remnants of ship crews, most recent catches possibly still being sane while others being degenerated scavengers. There are also the Hollow Men, strange groups of humanoid creatures clad in makeshift but very heavy space suits wielding various tools like fusion cutters as weapons who try to board and disassemble visiting spaceships. No one knows what they look like inside their suits.
The place is haunted in some way, with visions, ghostly figures, whispers, false signals etc constantly tormenting those present. Floating wrecks might suddenly break their slow orbit as if they were flinged to intercept visiting ships. It is only accessible via an ancient Eldar webway portal but the Eldar claim they don't have much interest in the place despite the fact that they built a fuckhuge portal there once.

The problem I have with having bought the box is that you already get so much of the baseline troops, the only benefit from the patrol I'd get would be flawless blades and another exultant, which I guess might be fine. I also hate spam lists and would rather lose with something more thematic.

Both dlc are nice, but I still consider them a waste of a dlc slot. Main story already felt too much like Inquisition story and not Rogue Trader story. There is barely any colonizing, exploration and xenos. In fact you only colonize Foulstone. Most of the team are dogmatards with only two xeno companions being Eldar and Deldar. And then two first dlcs add two more dogmatards.
Imo two first dlcs should already add Xeno companions. And then next dlcs should be companionless and focused on more Rogue Trader content and fucking around the galaxy. Kibbles and Solobore should be in Dark Heresy instead.

The Deathcult dlc is excellent and it serves a purpose by opposing the genestealer cult on your ship. The companion is good too.

The arbites dlc is 10/10 for the feudal world quest alone, and I also enjoyed the tithe storage planet a lot. Weaker overall story tho.

A misconception I had about 40k before I got into it and only knew about it through cultural osmosis was that I thought one of the setting's central conceits was that it was ambiguous whether or not the emperor was alive or dead. I was very disappointed to learn that I was mistaken, and he's definitely alive and holding back some kind of dumb psychic doom to prevent the imperium's collapse (I admit I still don't know the specifics because as soon as I got into the fandom I learned that almost everything imperium is gay and so I've only really bothered to learn about the cool xeno factions). I still really think it would be better if it was left genuinely unclear as to whether the imperium was sacrificing a bunch of psykers every day based solely on a misguided tradition. I'll give you the QRD of the specifics.

The Emperor is a corpse kept half alive on an archeotech psychic device that the current Imperials cannot even begin to understand. The primary function of the golden throne is to power a psychic beacon known as the Astronomicon. This is essentially a galaxy wide lighthouse that Navigators can see when Imperial ships fly through space-hell and is the only reliable way humans can travel Faster-Than-Light. If the Astronomicon falls, humans lose the ability to navigate the warp. It ends all FTL travel, thereby killing the Empire overnight. This almost guarantees humanities fall, and only a few pocket empires or chaos marauders would survive the next few centuries. Orks, Tyranids, Deldar, and Chaos invasions would occur uncountered and quadrillions would be butchered and devoured. At least half of imperial outposts rely on regular resupply to sustain themselves, and would die simply due to starvation or lack of fuel. It's not a matter of a mcguffin that kills everyone, its simple logistics in the end.

Well armageddon crusade stage 1 is complete, there were thrills, and frills but at least this stage is done.
Scenario missions are pretty neat, but require prereading (so filters 90% of people) but still, its much funner than mission decks.

My main problem with arbites DLC is how short it is (7-8 hours) compared to Void Shadows. The Overseer pets for MC do have reactivity and their own shit ehich I guess tacks on an hour or so, but still much shorter than advertised. Which is a shame since I liked the encounters here more than void shadows

Anon, there's another anon posting about a cool narrative campaign they're doing in this very thread. And again, this is in no a new phenomenon. The exact same applied in the early editions. In fact, the community has probably gotten a lot less tolerant of WAAC-fags and rules lawyers recently, because there's a big push among many tournament players for fairness, playing by intent, and being clear with your opponent instead of relying on gotchas and obscure rules interactions, something that was far more common back in the earlier editions.

Newfag here, mostly got into 40K via vidya and lore, thought about trying out some 40K in Tabletop Sim solo vs myself while reading up on rules to see if the hobby is for me and will I have fun actually playing the game before commiting to building armies.
Got the basics down. I think Warhammer factions are pretty cool overal, could you recommend me some not too complicated beginner armies (in terms of rules fine with high model counts) and a rough idea for their 1K lists? Wanna try out a bunch of stuff that way and see what appeals to me the most.

I mean real life special shoot through and go through walls all the time because they're that thin and its an unexpected angle of attack. CSM have loads of explosives designed for getting through thick metal armour. So a thin wall being a breach is pretty standard, hell power weapons should go through a non armour wall easily. The only risk is creating a vaccum but space marines can withstand that and even survive that without armour. If I'm remembering right about that weird organ they have that bascially encases them in snot/ some sort of goo/ their flesh excretes like that type of fish that sleeps in its own snot bubble every night.

See I like that idea, but that just does look like a scale to me. And I don't think any current BL wirters are classical history buffs and so wouldn't necronify any real ancient Egyptian or other ancient culture, ceremonial and cultural things that seem strange and alien to us. Like the Pharaohs very unique headwear being two crowns combined into one, though they do have their chin/beard strap.

Ok guys, according to the Psychic Awakening Codex, each Black Templar Crusade is made up of "thousands" of Space Marines, and as we know, the Black Templars have several Crusades at the same time (normal Crusades and minor Crusades).
That means there are theoretically between 20,000 and 30,000 Black Templars, 4 or 5 times more than we thought.

I think clothes can be anything but if you're going to tie your Hybrids and Genestealers with a certain hive fleet, the carapace and tyraniddy bits should reflect that for being consistent as the Patriarch comes from that hive fleet and its offspring should be of that hive fleet. I painted my purestrains in dark purple with magenta and pink highlights, so every other hybrids gets to have the same color on their carapace parts. Clothes are green for the track suits and purple for the clothes and banners.

Yo anon, I'd say if you're in it only for the gameplay you can stick with TTS full time, it has a very active Warhammer community. Since this hobby is honestly 90% painting and assembling minis. Games are small part of the hoby time. I'd say if you are interested in that then collect minis irl, but if it's just gameplay might as well just go with TTS. Not shooing you away, just giving you a heads up that most of your time in the hobby won't be playing games, even if you have an absurdly active local 40K scene.
But to answer your question generally for lists, just get some basic infantry, a few veichles or monsters, some characters to command units and elite infantry, healthy mix that can't go wrong with in most cases. Orks are pretty straight forward and marines are generally well balanced jacks of all trades.

I know it's anecdotal, but in my experience the armies people who don't actually own models most often claim to play are guard (notoriously expensive) and admech (horrifyingly expensive). Why they gravitate towards this, I have no fucking clue, because it would be 1000% more believable if they just said "I play space marines". It's the 40k version of "my girlfriend lives in Canada".
