>>96261147>QRDIt's an ancient (10k+ years old) spaceship graveyard. It has millions of ships, hulks, wrecks and planetoids in a debris ring around a stranged, haunted dark matter star. It has way more ships present than should be in Koronus, so it might be dragging them in from across the galaxy via the Warp or there is some sort of time displacement effect going on. It is inhabited by various kinds remnants of ship crews, most recent catches possibly still being sane while others being degenerated scavengers. There are also the Hollow Men, strange groups of humanoid creatures clad in makeshift but very heavy space suits wielding various tools like fusion cutters as weapons who try to board and disassemble visiting spaceships. No one knows what they look like inside their suits.
The place is haunted in some way, with visions, ghostly figures, whispers, false signals etc constantly tormenting those present. Floating wrecks might suddenly break their slow orbit as if they were flinged to intercept visiting ships. It is only accessible via an ancient Eldar webway portal but the Eldar claim they don't have much interest in the place despite the fact that they built a fuckhuge portal there once.

>>96262376Because the only difference between a chaos spawn and a heavily "blessed" chaos space marine is how much their patron likes them versus how much willpower they have to not go completely insane while half tentacle. Turns out a lot of CSM are highly valued by the chaos gods because they are strong warlords and actually decent candidates to be a daemon prince.
>>96262454the range is annemic and "discount" seems to be hardcapped at 30% so if you can get combat patrol you likely will have enough for the generic detachment play, unless you wan to get into the "spam one unit" ones
>>96262454Their models are just space marines so just grab recasts for the discount. It's good experience learning to fix any minor defects they come with too.
>>96262466The problem I have with having bought the box is that you already get so much of the baseline troops, the only benefit from the patrol I'd get would be flawless blades and another exultant, which I guess might be fine. I also hate spam lists and would rather lose with something more thematic.
>>96262400Sounds better than Tranzyn dlc. But both ultimately sound like something fitting Rogue Trader, unlike Death Cult and Arbites which should have been in Dark Heresy
>>96262487The Death Cult one is incredibly well executed. That said I think the procession of the damned is one of the coolest spooky things in 40k and I can't wait to dig into it in a few years.

>>96262487It's not uncommon for companies to use DLC at a testing ground for new mechanics for their sequels. Likely these systems are being developed concurrently for use in both the DLC for Trader and the core game of Dark Heresy.
Does that mean that Dark Heresy DLC will all be Only War or Deathwatch flavored?
>>96262498Both dlc are nice, but I still consider them a waste of a dlc slot. Main story already felt too much like Inquisition story and not Rogue Trader story. There is barely any colonizing, exploration and xenos. In fact you only colonize Foulstone. Most of the team are dogmatards with only two xeno companions being Eldar and Deldar. And then two first dlcs add two more dogmatards.
Imo two first dlcs should already add Xeno companions. And then next dlcs should be companionless and focused on more Rogue Trader content and fucking around the galaxy. Kibbles and Solobore should be in Dark Heresy instead.
>>96262507I think Overseer is a thing because both Corsair and Kroot kill teams have units with pets and they, alongside Accursed Cultists and Night Lords, will be in DH. It's a class for Kroot companion backported to Rogue Trader.

A misconception I had about 40k before I got into it and only knew about it through cultural osmosis was that I thought one of the setting's central conceits was that it was ambiguous whether or not the emperor was alive or dead. I was very disappointed to learn that I was mistaken, and he's definitely alive and holding back some kind of dumb psychic doom to prevent the imperium's collapse (I admit I still don't know the specifics because as soon as I got into the fandom I learned that almost everything imperium is gay and so I've only really bothered to learn about the cool xeno factions). I still really think it would be better if it was left genuinely unclear as to whether the imperium was sacrificing a bunch of psykers every day based solely on a misguided tradition. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

>>96262605I'll give you the QRD of the specifics.
The Emperor is a corpse kept half alive on an archeotech psychic device that the current Imperials cannot even begin to understand. The primary function of the golden throne is to power a psychic beacon known as the Astronomicon. This is essentially a galaxy wide lighthouse that Navigators can see when Imperial ships fly through space-hell and is the only reliable way humans can travel Faster-Than-Light. If the Astronomicon falls, humans lose the ability to navigate the warp. It ends all FTL travel, thereby killing the Empire overnight. This almost guarantees humanities fall, and only a few pocket empires or chaos marauders would survive the next few centuries. Orks, Tyranids, Deldar, and Chaos invasions would occur uncountered and quadrillions would be butchered and devoured. At least half of imperial outposts rely on regular resupply to sustain themselves, and would die simply due to starvation or lack of fuel. It's not a matter of a mcguffin that kills everyone, its simple logistics in the end.

>>96262724Yeah that's true. I hope they add xeno companions in the next 2 DLCs in 2026.
Since that's RT's thing. It's funny that Dark Heresy has more xenos on cover and is rumored to have 1 more female Eldar companion, that a DH game might have more xenos on launch than Rogue Trader, even though DH had no official playable xenos.

>>96262962Only because tournaments usually have paint requirements to enter them. If you ever see a tournament without painting requirements, first of all, flee. Second, I promise you there will be lots of unpainted models. But the absolute worst of WAAC-fags paradoxically don't go to tournaments at all (because their bullshit isn't tolerated in organized events), and their armies are rarely painted.

>>96262659How did Tau get a foothold on Armageddon? (This was also a question for Shadow War: Armageddon)
>>96262999They got a foothold by having a player who played Tau who wanted to play in the campaign.
>>96262993Anon, there's another anon posting about a cool narrative campaign they're doing in this very thread. And again, this is in no a new phenomenon. The exact same applied in the early editions. In fact, the community has probably gotten a lot less tolerant of WAAC-fags and rules lawyers recently, because there's a big push among many tournament players for fairness, playing by intent, and being clear with your opponent instead of relying on gotchas and obscure rules interactions, something that was far more common back in the earlier editions.

>>96263239Yo anon, I'd say if you're in it only for the gameplay you can stick with TTS full time, it has a very active Warhammer community. Since this hobby is honestly 90% painting and assembling minis. Games are small part of the hoby time. I'd say if you are interested in that then collect minis irl, but if it's just gameplay might as well just go with TTS. Not shooing you away, just giving you a heads up that most of your time in the hobby won't be playing games, even if you have an absurdly active local 40K scene.
But to answer your question generally for lists, just get some basic infantry, a few veichles or monsters, some characters to command units and elite infantry, healthy mix that can't go wrong with in most cases. Orks are pretty straight forward and marines are generally well balanced jacks of all trades.
Posting my BT bladesguard and sternguards WIP. Just did the tabards and rifles. I'm starting to like painting marines with rifles.
Post minis, done and WIPs.

Daemons are my favorite faction and by far the one Iโve played and painted the most, but while I enjoy seeing them show up in media I personally enjoy watching them get their asses kicked by Imperium or Xenos factions. Anyone else have this discrepancy with their favored faction versus what they actually like to see in the setting?

Still think fighter jets have no place in the game, it just doesn't feel right or make sense.

Grey Knights, Adeptus Custodes, Sisters of Battle or Black Templars for a newguy?
>>96264589black templars and custodes are the easiest to paint and collect of those options
grey knights aren't hard to paint but they're very dated models at this point and you may have a situation in the next year or so where they get a refresh
sisters of battle are tricky to paint for beginners, they're detail heavy and with current points values you need a LOT of them

Should I always split my tactical squads? I run two and like to keep a lascannon or rocket launcher safer and then have a sgt and 4 marines (one with plasma or melta) act as screeners but I feel like kweping them together may be a smarter idea since they're so weak and killable this edition.

>>96265651It is true.
It's what happens to Urkrathos during the 13th Black Crusade while invading Cadia.
>-Urkrathos organs ruptured and filled the emptiness of his chest with gore and blood that seemingly flowed from an infinite dimension. As his body transformed, two voices sounded from within Urkrathos. One, a daemonic voice exalting in his ascension and embracing Khorne as his master. The second voice was Urkrathos' human voice, screaming in horror and begging it to stop.>-Inside Urkrathos, his new daemon soul ripped itself from his human soul. Urkrathos' human soul was discarded like a placenta. It served its purpose in feeding and aiding the birth of the Daemon soul, and now it can die unmourned and forgotten.>-Urkrathos would not miss his body. It was merely a vessel. What made Urkrathos recoil in his mind was the awful truth that his free will was forever extinguished. -Urkrathos howled in exaltation and horror at what he had become. But most of all, he howlled for the endless thirst of blood that was now consuming him.

>>96265592I'd argue the worst part of 40k is the overwhelming amount of people with strong opinions about the lore who don't participate with the hobby in any way besides complaining. Everything else is easily ignorable
>>96265738Death guard is probably the absolute easiest though necrons or Space Marines are very close behind. Admecht, dark Eldar, and genesteeler cults are far and away the hardest armies to learn though.
>>96265738Probably gsc. They have a lot of movement tech that you need to keep in mind and revolve around characters you have to keep alive

that's why space marines have so many single-weapon units - easier to track, easier to quick roll, etc.

One less step I guess. They're tabletop play tier.
>>96265605No. Chaos corrupts individuals on a spiritual level. Daemon princes are literally Daemons that have completely hijacked and subverted the physical body of the person they inhabit.
Fulgrim isn't Fulgrim anymore, he's a demon that looks like Fulgrim. Real Fulgrim is trapped in his own body being tortured for eternity.
>>96265808This isn't consistent with the first person perspective of daemon princes. They have clearly shown the internal thoughts of Daemon Princes that show they are who they were, but stripped of free will and having constant existential dread that they suppress. Fulgrim is a special case.
>>96265825I guess it depends on how they fell.
Belakor revels in being a huge dickhead, whereas other demon princes are miserable.
>>96265825>special caseEveryone just accept they have no baseline rules for these things and the constant of "players get to decide what things are for their own dudes" is the theme.
People exerting their opinion over people because "a book said this one thing about this one guy" to over write peoples creativity is power pushing people. Because pushing feels good. It's insulting when someone has lore that doesn't make sense to you. Right?
>ranged heavy black templar army list
Why?
>>96265841If you just say "this is my headcannon" or "this is my dudes" I respect that 100%, because many things in 40k are contradictory. But people aren't bad people for trying to discuss whats canon or most accurate to say about the setting and its a pass time that is more than a century old for pop culture sci fi and fantasy at this point. You are a nerd on the nerd forum, you will have to abide by nerd cultural norms and it has nothing to do with trying to "alpha nerd" you or display dominance or whatever schizo projection you spouting off here. You replied with a definitive statement, if I someone asks "how tall are Eldar?" and you reply "under 5 foot" I'm going to correct you even if it hurts your feefees.
>>96265825>>96265841Chaos' whole point is that it is not a good deal at all and generally becoming corrupted by Chaos or even becoming a daemon prince is a fate worse than death.
40k is grimdark, and Chaos especially is the most grimdark part about it.
What makes you think that joining up with the actual monstrous demonic gods who genuinely do not give a shit about anything besides their eternal bickering between one another (the Great Game), and who practically and abhor all life and only want to corrupt and destroy everything was going to be a fun ride for you?
Like what made you think you were going to have it good and dandy when you sold your soul to these monsters?

>Like a petulant first-born son, Beโlakor has always had a bitter jealousy toward anything or anyone that wins the favour of the Dark Gods. For millennia, the Daemon Prince undermined the plots and schemes of the daemonic and mortal servants of Chaos. However, what Beโlakor mistook for free will, and a measure of revenge against those that have usurped his power, was merely the Great Game between the Chaos Gods. When the Daemon brought down a champion of Nurgle, invariably he was doing Tzeentchโs bidding, and while laying a warrior of the Blood God low he was the fulfilling the will of Slannesh. Beโlakor remains blind to these manipulations of the gods. His own thirst for power and the pleasure of proving his mastery over rival champions of Chaos seems enough to make him forget the sorcerous tethers the gods continually try and wind tightly around his neck.

Hypothetically speaking, what if I still want to design a /dudes/ army for Imperial Guard and I wish to research further? Which edition did Imperial Guard Penal Legions best, or, are there any decent BL books?
/my dudes/'s fluff so far: penal colony got devoured by the warp storms post Cadia. What remains is now a penal legion absorbed by the Adeptus Mechanicus expedition fleet. Being given minimal support by the Mechanicum because they are being used as screening fodder. >>96266747>>96266714Okay fine. If we consult the /40ks/ rubric, you're between a 4-5. The colour scheme is clear, and everything has been shaded and there is a few highlights on some details, but the flat panels have some coffee staining and glossy finish and there are areas like the boot that have inconsistentshade pooling in the recesses. Your yellow has quite a bit of texture and is quite flat, and your black is fairly flatas well. The beard also is a little messy and the necklace is really inconsistent in its highlighting. There are also mouldlines present on the hammer still. There is a lot to improve on but isn't terrible for tabletop standard. The base is textured but is fairly flat as well as more effort could be made to make the rocks fit in with your ground work.
>>96266817>>96266812Brighter highlights will do a lot for this scheme. I'd push the red up to an orange and the blue up to a bright off white

C: model is base coated
B: model is base coated and shades
A: model is battle ready.
S: anything above battle ready.

he had to undergo sensitivity training for having a crash out on set for how bad the writing was. im not a wokeslopper who thinks "GW WILL ADD FEMALE SPACE MARINES ANY DAY NOW" but the witcher genuinely did get really bad in its later seasons and he was right to call it bad. The female director said that the witcher was awful/mysognistic/juvenile/deserved to be rewritten becuse it was bad and he had read half the books and liked them. He probably has PTSD from having to be in the snyderverse as well so hes tired of it.
But yea, Ive never seen any man get the kind of parasitic hero worship that he does just because he has a few Custodes models and is a socially well adjusted casual warhammer fan.
>>96267513Back banners are just functionally annoying to deal with, at least handheld standards have solid mounting points and can be more dynamic than the old tactical back banners were
When I was a young dipshit playing 3rd edition I thought backpack banners were kind of silly, why would a solder have a big ass flag waving around on top of him? Especially when you have dedicated dues whose job is already to have a big flag to wave around (Standard bearers). So I never put them on and clipped them off if they were built in. I had quite a lot of them in my bits box. Only much later after liquidating my entire collection do I see the folly of my ways and recognize the superiority of backpack banners. If I collected Space Marines again I'd be feeling a little sore over not having those spare banner poles.
>>96266833I think I'm a 5 but definitely have some 3-4 models where I've lost interest
>>96267320A Deatwatch veteran sargeant should have a xenophase blade and either a shield or a pistol of some kind.
You can also give him a shotgun, karsmen rifle

>>96267582>the retvrn of o&tanonNature is healing
I just have never liked the connection points that back banner have. I think I'd have to use a brass rod or something to really feel comfortable handling them in game. Also I dig the new guy
They just hit different when painted well. I hope to paint a xenophase blade that good one day.
>>96265563You can dress it up all you want, the simple fact is it's a massive plot hole that GW tried to build a bridge over rather then just retconning or, you know, just stick to the old fluff.
>>96267590Somebody there DM'd me that people were posting my shit here so I figured might as well head them off on it
>>96267618Newer models are fine for it, the way the sternguard banner/black templars shroud and berzerker icon mount make them plenty stable, I've dropped this sergeant enough times and th banner's still fine
