I've beat Knight. Fuck it felt good, I'm a complete shitter but I didn't tilt once, the last run was particularly smooth, I had all three members of Fuck Squad standing for the last attack. But I've also noticed couple of important things:
1. Pretty sure it was Kris who struck Susie and Ralsei down. Not 100% sure, but I would bet good money on it.
2. However, when Kris and Ralsei are left alone together after the fight, Ralsei says "You were very brave, but our struggle is only beginning." I have literally not seen anyone talk about it but in chapter 4 if you listen in on the conversation between Kris and Carol on the phone she says something "you need soul" to do something and that you can't do it without it.

So the obvious interpretation is that the soul isn't Kris, it's something else inside his body. Seemingly kris can operate without it, at least for a short time, but is weakened when they do so.
It's unclear if they need the soul to live, or if the soul is just necessary for kris' plans. It seems like the soul is definitely required to seal fountains, and Kris seemingly is ok with doing that, but also that Kris wants to keep the soul from moving freely (i.e. by trapping it in a dark world in chapter 3).
