If SKG achieved one thing, if it weren't obvious enough, is how strong the current contrarian /v/ mentality is. No matter how beneficial it is for the average /v/ consumer there will always be genuine and disingenuine faggots (the latter for le ebin falseflag ragebait xD) claiming how acshually harmful it is to developers (despite this affecting maybe 1% of indie games), simply doomposting "nothing will change, they will find a loophole", or disinformed to hell and back i.e thinking that this will bring The Crew back or any video game that was shut down prior to the establishment of the initiative, or that devs/publishers will be forced to put a game on life support until the end of time
Still, I am glad that *most* of /v/ seems to agree it's nevertheless a good effort and above all else I am glad PieRATfaggot aka Malding Faggot aka Jason is coofing as he malds LIVE from the hospital (definitely not an excuse to not have to address the success of the petition signing as it happens)

Representatives from it will vote differently, it will more likely be divided by party lines, with leftists more likely to vote for it while economic right will vote against it.
The far right will maybe vote for it, because its representatives are mostly far-right millennials who have grown to despise videogames because "woke ruined it" and will do anything they think will kill the industry
And the far-left vote against it because they are a bunch of contrarians and argue that "this legislation isn't doing enough for the working class and doesn't abolish private property anyway so we are voting against it".
All in all, it's a 50/50 that it past.

You guys have no idea what you've done. All multiplayer games will be have to be converted to single player. This will make games like world of warcraft illegal, unless the developers sign a government contract agreeing to keep the servers up for an infinite amount of time.

>>714396227Running an online game server cost money indefinitely, shutting a server down because it's no longer profitable is a completely valid reason for any business regardless of its size. When a customer purchases a game, they are buying the ability to run that executable locally. The idea that shutting down a game server is the same as destroying the player's copy of that game is completely incorrect. Forcing games to be compatible with private servers sounds nice in principle, but if the server code contains copyrighted material then it could end up being very awkward to accomplish in reality.
The only law I can see coming out of this is that game devs/publishers will need to specify an end date for when their games will no longer be supported. A bit like how some tech companies publish EOL dates software or hardware. Otherwise it's down to the customer to boycott games that partake in shitty practices.
