No, mainly because I just don't like her that way. Not that I don't like women or foxes, or that I hate her, I'm just not romantically interested in Ceroba.

On a genuine note, I do really think she didn't do too much wrong. I think the injection thing was stupid, but it also feels out of character that it happened. Like, it clashes with pretty much everything we're shown of her up until that point.
Like, you're telling me that this woman who is so dedicated to her family, that she's willing to try and take on her dead lover's science project that got him killed even though it seems nearly impossible to complete, this woman who would go so far as to try and kill an unrelated, innocent child for the sake of completing this project because she cares so much about protecting her family, would just nonchalantly inject her own daughter with the unfinished serum? That doesn't just feel stupid in-universe, that feels out of character from an actual writing standpoint. If you take that out of her plotline and make it so that Kanako injected herself behind Ceroba's back or something, the whole story works way better. I know that's not an excuse in-universe, but still, I think just about everyone agrees that it feels really jarring compared to the rest of her character.

Confession: I began to enjoy the injection scene purely for how wild it is. You don't get that sort of stuff in mainstream media.

Of course I don't think it was a good direction for the story, but I feel removing it completely would take away a chunk of what UTY is.

My suggestion is to have Kanako get very ill for some reason, and Ceroba decides to inject her as a desperate measure.

Also, ignoring dumb writing choices out-of-universe, I still don't feel like she's that bad in-universe either. Like, she's no HandPlates Gaster, she was apparently a really good and loving parent to Kanako, she just wasn't knowledgeable or experienced with the necessary fields to finish Chujin's project, and she was under the pressure of finishing the serum being Chujin's dying wish, along with him saying that it was monsterkind's last hope. She still should've hesitated more before injecting Kanako (or just said no but we already went over that), but it's not like she did it maliciously.
Like another anon in a thread a while ago said, Deltarune showed us that Toriel's problems are her own and that she's a mess in any universe, but if you take the blue powerade out of Ceroba's backstory, you'd have to pull some pretty contrived shit to have in a similar situation in a DRY take to the one she's in in UTY.
She made a dumb choice, but the actual circumstances in which that choice was made were pretty extraordinary, I think a lot of people would crack in some way under that kind of stress, even if not in the exact way Ceroba did.
She's a good, loving mother, who just happened to be given an impossible task, and she didn't know how to proceed with it.
I think, genuinely, that if I were the human whose soul she was trying to take to finish this project, I think I'd forgive her. I might even want to take a look at Chujin's notes, see if anything good can come out of them.
Maybe also try my hand at saving Kanako, but we've been over that extensively already, haven't we?

I also thought the finishers were a bit annoying after a while, but 2016 at least handled them fairly quickly so it's more of a brief hiccup than how some other games handle them. Eternal is terrible about them though, because they made it so that different finisher abilities make the enemies killed with them drop different resources like ammo, health, armor, etc, so they had to bind a separate command for each finisher and now everything feels super clunky and awkward. Eternal also added a bunch of new movement mechanics that just feel really unintuitive, like those climbing walls and monkey bars and whatnot. Honestly, I'd say 2016 plays way better than Eternal does, especially if you care about the pacing of the combat.

I haven't played Dark Ages yet but I felt like Eternal was an improvement over 2016 in every aspect (except for boss fights), the game has a faster pace, the enemy variety improved, the guns are better balanced and the movement mechanics while weird at first make the combat much more fluid, Eternal also adds a rune that increases the speed of the finishers but that should have been the default speed

Maybe I'm being petty but I feel disheartened that the person who made this game possible wants nothing to do with it. I always thought the devs would do a bit more with UTY, but it seems most if not all of them acknowledge it less than Toby.
UTY means a lot to me, in that I literally think about it everyday. And there's plenty of dedicated fans who feel the same way. But it seems like the devs don't really interact with fans much, even with the countless fanart and discussion that happens online.

Joking aside, I'm told MasterSword also apparently used to post on /v/ back closer to when the game came out, but that was all long ago.
I mean, it makes sense. The game's basically done, other than some minor patch that came out recently that only tweaked a few things here and there. It's not like they can really do anything else with the story, all of UTY's cast were all supposed to be relatively unimportant background characters, so there aren't too many stories you can tell with them post-UTY that wouldn't just be slice-of-life stories, and that's not enough material to work with to keep the devs together and bound to the world they made. Eventually, they just had to move on, and yeah that's still a shame, but it was going to happen sooner or later.

It brings great sadness to hear of how the people who worked on this game that meant so much to me no longer want anything to do with it. I feel as if I never even got a chance to pay my respects, whatever that may mean.
I remember back in December of 2024 how much excitement I took to watch the anniversary stream and just hearing all the fun things they had to share, about the old Ceroba plans, how Mo was conceived, and all the rest.

I feel like it's weird that I haven't seen too many other people compare the ending shot of UTY with the ending of Cowboy Bebop. Honestly, I feel like Deltatraveler would need a complete rewrite in order to be really good again. The first section was pretty alright, it had a few meh moments here and there, but by and large it was pretty good. I feel like having the second section take place in EarthBound was a mistake though, it just feels like a bit of a non sequitur to go from Deltarune to Undertale to EarthBound like that. They should've either stuck with Undertale AUs for the whole game, or stuck to having the Deltarune Cast traveling through different weird RPG worlds, like other RPGs that inspired Toby Fox, like OFF or something.

The more I think about it the more disappointed I am. The concept actually holds some merit and putting the same characters in different worlds, though cheesy, can be fun and thought provoking. One of the best examples of crossover fanfiction is Saruman of Many Devices. However, besides basic writing skills that requires knowing actually good media for crossovers and beating the manchild allegations.

Honestly, I still can't really be bothered to get too worked up over Kanako one way or the other. She's just another one of those characters who exist primarily to set up other characters or plot points, but isn't important by themself. And I know a lot of people like to say "but she didn't have to be that way!", which is true, but it's also something you can say about literally any non-character. Like, you could rewrite just about any irrelevant side/background character in any story to be more important than they ended up being in the original story, but at that point you're just telling an entirely new story. And maybe that new story can be really good, and maybe Kanako could be a really good character in a story where she actually is a character, but as it stands including more of her in UTY's story probably would've been a mistake. She served her purpose, she was a living incendiary incident, and then she's gone, and that's all she really had to be. It is what it is.

In other threads, I've heard people say that you could make an entire game from the various Deltarune fan theories and predictions that came about throughout the years. That's the basic premise of this fangame: a reinterpretation of DR taking influence from what people thought would happen rather than what did happen.

The lightner characters are largely the same, but with different roles, which (unfortunately) makes this a sort of swap AU. The intent is to give greater focus to formerly minor UT characters and make them main characters. For example, the new Fun Gang is instead Chara, Dess, and a darkner OC who is inspired largely by Flowey. Here, Chara is instead the older Dreemurr sibling looking forward to Asriel visiting Asgore over winter break, and Noelle is the lost girl whose disappearance made Dess bitter and estranged her from the Dreemurrs.

The dark worlds are largely original, albeit with much inspiration taken from canon and what people imagined the chapters would be like. For example, my idea for chapter 3 still revolves around TV in the Dreemurr household, but focused more on the entertainment aspect since Chara likes film and comics more than games. The Tenna stand-in is actually a corrupt multimedia tycoon like people thought he would be, rather than an endearing game show host. Chapter 1 still involves a kingdom, but the Lancer stand-in is a genuinely cruel princess who usurps the throne from her father, rather than a gentle prince who puts on an outwardly tough persona.

I have no idea if people will actually like this idea more than "Deltatraveler but it was all a dream". But the execution is going to be a lot simpler, I'll tell you that: no juggling various gameplay or art styles.

How hard would you go with the predictions thing?
Chapter 1 is an enigma because no one expected things to go that way, Deltarune itself is something almost no one predicted after Undertale.
A chapter 1 based on old predictions would just be a plain sequel of Undertale at the surface, with the UT characters exploring the Gaster mystery.
Chapter 2 would also be weird since the most common expectations were a direct follow up to Card Kingdom with a Spade Queen and Kris doing a genoslide at the town.
Chapter 3 is the only well settled chapter since the gangster Tenna stuff was the overwhelming expectation for it.
The other chapters onward were all a wild guess. Even people who predicted the Church didn't really predict how things would go, in truth it's a music-themed chapter as much as a church one.

Yeah, that's a good point. The characters aren't set in stone at all, these are just preliminary ideas. Chara is only briefly touched upon in canon leading people to interpret the character in two diametrically opposed black-and-white ways, and I wanted to draw parallels with Ralsei being a caricature of gentle pacifist Asriel by having the darkner companion be modelled after sarcastic murderhobo Asriel.
Kris and Lancer definitely tie more into the crack theories, though. I like the idea, but my idea for the main trio was to have them be more of an Unfun Gang who are pessimists rather than a Fun Gang who are optimists. Not sure how I could make that work with Kris and Lancer, who are shown to be generally caring people despite their eccentricities; though perhaps scrapping the Unfun Gang idea might potentially be for the better.

The general approach I'm working towards is to think about some cool ideas that never panned out and try to retrofit them into a new story. This would be stuff like future dark world speculation, differing fan interpretations on the prophecy, predictions about lightners' roles in the dark worlds, and the like. I latched onto the Lancer idea because of the "true prince from the dark" theories floating around in chapter 1. In that vein, Noelle could work as a deuteragonist in place of Susie due to "the girl" theories.
I really like the idea of keeping the chapter 1 Ralsei design, and like the other guy said it could work in tandem with making his personality more like soulless Asriel. Not too sure what to do with Susie: the only things I can think of are retaining more of her brasher chapter 1 personality, and maybe making her homeless like some people thought she was in chapter 2. Can't recall the fanons you may have had in mind, I certainly hadn't heard of the bike dad thing before

The idea is that Susie's dad is abusive to a comical degree, literally eats her bike because she made him mad. As for her other traits, her initially hating Kris because she's jealous of how good his home life is. And I think you could just have Susie be one lightner party member among many, rather than the coprotagonist like she in base DR.

Ralsei could be a soulless psychopath who isn't evil. He can't feel emotions in the conventional sense, but he also doesn't enjoy hurting people, and wants to be a good person, he just doesn't have the mental faculties to truly feel empathy. So he acts the role of how a nice person should act. This could even fit thematically with him keeping the hat on. Ralsei really isn't becoming more of a person here, its just a character he's playing because its the role assigned to him. You could even have a reveal later of what's really under the hat to hammer this home.

As for the swap vs crack theory stuff. I say its diametrically opposed, because all the things I would want out of a crack theory AU are only possible with the original DR lightners. If you don't want to change your concept, I would suggest you at least bill at as something else, so you don't get people who are expecting the DR characters hopes up.

I'm imagining empathy-less Ralsei in a parallel scene to the one after Susie smashes the prophecy panel. Instead of Ralsei confessing that he's scared but willing to face whatever fate awaits him with his friends, he'd have a manic breakdown as his facade crumbles and he tries to desperately cling to any hope that his one plan to avoid the prophecy's end is salvageable. He's only truly motivated by self-interest, but his only plan for self-preservation necessitates him to fake being "normal" as best he can.

I feel like Ralsei in this isn't quite the same as Flowey. He's a soulless sociopath yes, but he also has no self interest either. He's purely a tool meant to fulfill a purpose. So he's not so much trying to save himself as he is trying to make his job, whatever it is, is completed successfully. What about a Doc Scratch style take on Ralsei? A Ralsei who doesn't necessarily have any sort of personal animosity towards anyone, and does help point you in the right direction and guide you, but is also 100% loyal to his own mission of fulfilling the prophecy, which he knows for a fact will result in the deaths of everyone he knows and the destruction of the world he exists in, simply because it's his purpose.
