A single guy, in his own private time, recreated an entire MMO from scratch. He didn't port it, literally just booted up Unity and started remaking it. He copied over the resources but that's it.

The result is 1:1 with the original but without any of the inherent problems, like desyncs and slowdowns.
The content being shown is not the highlight, it's the stability and similarity to the original that's being shown off. Content-wise it's still extremely lacking but it's very playable.

Taking damage or casting certain skills would "stop" you in your tracks to play an animation, when this happens while you're moving, the clientside animation playing doesn't sync up with the serverside location of your character.

So often times you'll be standing still in one tile, while the mobs you're fighting start running a few tiles ahead of you (where you clicked initially) and start attacking you several tiles away from that tile.
Then, you can't fight them back, because the client thinks you're too far away to attack and wont send the request to the server, despite the server beating your ass with NPCs from afar.

In layman terms it means the game is insanely laggy and you make up for it by click spamming, it's a massive hurdle to get past for a lot of new players from my experience. It simply does not feel good when you get hit and then your character gets stunlocked in place because you weren't aware that you need to mash leftclick to move away from the enemy hitting you.

sounds great, but what's the point if nobody actually plays it? new RO servers pop up all the time, but they're lucky to get 1000 players and then drop to 1/3 or less after a week. The only salvation for games like this would be an offline experience with something like AI bots that you can chat/interact with as if they were actual players lol

Ok lets get our fix list for RO ready:
- all equipment has a use for at least a portion of the game and more variety of endgame items for all classes
- more interactions with monsters & bosses as you barely see some of them before killing them/dying
- rebalance some class skills so they are actually useful
- some areas can just become 1 big map now especially WoE
- make areas generally harder for huntards and assassins so they can't solo everything and are forced to play with others

RO could use new versions of it's existing expansions (Louyang, Amatsu, Brasilia, etc) with new NPC, monsters, items, lore, etc. But at that point it's basically making another game from scratch. Not to mention how the standard korean MMO design with obligatory need for grinding will always kill it in the long run.
At least these attempts are nice. And these events are great, hope they stay fixed every 2 weeks or something, and only happen if they can meet a minimum quota of anons joining.

The game can only be saved by going the Genshin route and focusing on more animations. I'm a firm believer the next mmorpg innovation will have to be multipling the movement and interaction of your environment to the world. im not sure either. for me back then a lot of it was the novelty of being able to play with people all over the world. it was completely mindblowing and the social part of the game was definitely a huge contributor for why i stuck with it over anything else. but i suppose grinding for hours on the same mob etc is just ancient design at this point, same with other parts of the game

You can use it near stuff like the waterways in GH prison 2. You'll never get full power but it's an improvement.

Better AoE indicators that show which areas are being affected by skills since some visuals are affected by zooming in and out (looking at you Pneuma)

I didn't play this unity server for long, so I can't really say if it's any better, but the gameplay itself was so goddamn smooth I'd say it's 100% worth it giving it a try. But maybe wait until they have more actual features online.
I also disagree with the server's ability to reclass forever, like you were playing FFXIV. I get why it's done, and objectively it's not a bad choice, certainly frees time, but it also kills the spirit of the game. Now you can just level with the cheesy classes and swap to the harder ones later, and any class that doesn't really depend on gear as much is just free now.

Travelling around with your friends from map to map felt like an adventure itself, you had to be mindful of your resources because one bad aggro could get you back to the start. There was a lot of communication, which doesn't really happen in MMO's these days outside of raid groups. They even had these chat thingies where you could park your char somewhere and your friends could leave you messages you could check later.

Seeing the streets filled with merchants selling their wares also gave life to the cities, if the player was around you could even barter with them if you were trying to get something but didn't have enough.

Although I would argue that it's a bit more complex than that. WoE was tied into the server's life in a way that it required a constant influx of consumables by every party involved, and in turn these high-level players passed spare gear and cards down to lower levels in order to afford it.

It was a very organic system where equipment and refine ores flowed down(from high levels or mid level) while consumables, bottles, crafting materials flowed up(from mid and low levels to high levels). It wasn't like modern MMO PvP systems where participation is optional and entirely separated from "the main game".

Sometimes they call it "Boss Monster Name + Party" or just "Boss Monster Name" when looking for groups for that boss monster, but they refer to it as "raids" 95% of the time.
