Did you ever try streaming a video game and if so how did it go?
Anonymous No.718024012
No but I tried making some videos. They got a very positive reception but ultimately didn't reach too many people
Anonymous No.718024267
yeah i've been flipping it on occasionally just for shits and giggles

the stream is permanently at 1 viewer but I think it counts the broadcaster

lots of viewbot ad spam, occasionally someone will start participating in your chat, you might even engage with them, then after a couple messages they try to sell you artwork for emotes

pretty much the only two forms of viewers you'll get

I do enjoy banning them

waaaay back in the day on Justin.tv I streamed MGS for a bit on a variety stream channel named "vidyagaemsne1" or something similar to that. I didn't have a mic and the stream was basically dying (which is why they let me stream on it in the first place, I was a regular int he chat at the time).

I also made some For Honor YT vids when that game was new, had 3 vids with 1,000 views each, the other vids barely got anything. I liked making them, but got frustrated with For Honor and stopped playing.

Haven't streamed in a long while. Trying to finish 2 projects before I start shifting priorities towards streaming. About half way done. Although, I was given a key and I should probably stream in the next week or two despite being given nearly two months to do it. Usually no one watches, but there is someone who will show up every now and then and he seems to enjoy the streams, so that's cool. I don't mind if no one watches though. I always stream with the intention of uploading an edited version, so I try my best to commentate throughout the whole stream even if no one is around.

I was really good (easily a top 10 player) at a certain competitive videogame once and could easily pull 30+ viewers that wanted to watch pro gameplay.
Struggle to break 0-2 viewers on any other game tho. I probably am not too entertaining personality wise, and I also don't think it's particularly fun.

I never had any aspirations of being a streamer but my friend wanted to watch my playthrough of Dark Souls 2, so I streamed it for him. During that playthrough a few people actually tuned in and watched. After I was done I realized I was actually quite close to hitting the requirements to become an affiliate, so I got my friend who had a modest sized audience at the time to shout me out to hit the follower and watch time requirements. I did that just so I can get my own emote, so now I have my own emote of my face on twitch and I haven't streamed since. I'm honestly surprised they havent revoked my affiliate status lol.

Sure, tried streaming a couple of games I really enjoy but generally have a low viewer count.
I think I managed to get like.. 3-4 unique viewers in total, none of them stuck around for too long but one of them did write in the chat for a bit, made me realize how hard it is to actually focus on a game and the chat at the same time.
I also feel like reading every bit of dialogue I came across in Fo2 out loud helped with my pronunciation.
Anyways, I guess it isn't for me anyways, I'd have to be drunk to be able to keep babbling about nonsense for hours on end, can't even fathom how some people manage to do that shit daily for 6+ hours, but I guess it makes sense that you just push yourself to do it and get more comfortable with it when it's your meal ticket.

Pretty girls get everything handed to them in life, this is a good lesson. If you're an attractive woman: you stream with a camera and open an onlyfans. If you're an ugly woman: you get a vtuber avatar and do an anime voice. If you're an attractive man: you stream with a camera and hope you can stand out. And if you're an ugly man: you just hope. Attractive people will always come out on top of their unattractive counterparts and women will always succeed over men when it comes to selling themselves as entertainment, this is just how it is. If you aren't pretty you better god damn hope you get real fucking lucky when it comes to streaming.

Those three things also wont cut it. It doesn't matter what you bring to the table, because no one actually cares. People will flock to larger streamers they know over seeking out smaller streamers they don't. Streaming at this point entirely comes down to luck, people will say "But you can hedge your bets with yadda yadda yadda" but they're wrong. Connections are really about the only thing that'll help you in the long run. If you want to be big, get ready to suck some dick or roll the dice.

The current thing isn't actually a sure fire hit. People will sometimes avoid watching games they want to play themselves, so there are certain franchises you have to avoid for the first couple of weeks after launch. Also, some games are super popular and people just straight up don't watch streamers playing them for whatever reason. You're best off choosing something that requires some amount of gambling or something that feels like it's gambling even if it isn't OR a series people can be incredibly autistic about and you just need to not throw people out of your chat when they join and start backseating. You also need to look at saturation, is a game being overplayed? On Twitch you can search a game's name and check how many viewers it has and see the number of streamers and see how many viewers the largest of those streamers have. This will tell you if the full viewership is going to one big streamer or not.

Common suggestions for current trends usually include stuff like Uma Musume and for older fall backs people will usually tell you Minecraft or Marbles on Stream. It's a dance, and you really just need to feel shit out on your own ultimately, but it's one that's easier to follow once you know the steps.

back during the Justin TV days and leading into Twitch early days i used to go to a website where people took turns sharing a stream key to entertain each other streaming by taking turns.

i got some of the most garbage video capture devices money could buy and streamed retro games when someone wasn't streaming Minecraft or Dwarf Fortress, did tons of NES but hooked up whatever i could and streamed it.

rarely got more than 30 viewers back then but this was 10-15 years ago and it wasn't like anything was monetized back then so it didn't matter, it was fun though.

No, but I'm considering streaming, I have so many games to play and streaming would give me a good excuse to go through all of this backlog, all while also jumping into flavor of the month bandwagons to see if the algorithm looks at my direction. But to be honest, it all looks so complicated nowadays, I pretty much have to go and look for step by step guides on how to stream so I can start, since I have no one who can guide me through. OBS, setting streams in both Twitch and/or Youtube and the sorts. I don't even have a mic, I'm looking into buying a decent one that doesn't break the bank since I obviously don't want to go too hard into it so early.

On the other hand, I also want to stream as a vtuber, I've been playing with VRoid Studio a bit and I have a solid idea of my character, but I need to properly put it on paper and the options VRoid provides are not good enough unless I look around for paid features in BOOTH, especially hairstyles. As he said, I agree that it's not that common and if it is, you can almost instantly notice. Most male vtubers streaming with female avatars don't care much about changing their voice, even beatMARIO streams with a girl avatar.

On the other hand, it's easier just to set TTS and modern versions are very fast, Zentreya's current TTS is so instantaneous that she can now hold a conversation with almost no delays. There's also MOTHERV3.

its common in small streamers like under 50ccv but its usually picked up on heavily if they make it past that. some sperg out and the pressure or whatever gets to them so they disclose while others get found out and quit. tons of trannies but the actual voice changer is not as common as you would think among the medium and above streamers. 10ccv and less is whatever and i dont really pay attention to that space anymore.

You're over a decade behind everyone else your age when it comes to work experience and having no degree only hurts your prospects further. Ageism is a real thing when it comes to employment and companies don't like to hire older people for entry-level jobs. You'll probably get passed up for a job McDonald's in favor of some brown teenager.

I'm going to assume that you're also autistic and undersocialized as fuck otherwise you probably wouldn't be in this situation. This is also terrible because you need to be somewhat decent at socialization to make it as a streamer because a large part of your "job" will be interacting with chat or potentially other streamers. No one wants to watch or interact with an autist on the internet unless it's to make fun of them. You'll need to be entertaining and likeable. If you somehow make it big enough then you'll also have to interact with sponsorships and talent agencies in a professional manner and being a sperg with no work experience is going to make them hesitant to deal with you.
Also you're going to be competing against tens of thousands of other streamers (who all also thought they could avoid getting a real job by streaming) for the attention and donations of your viewers, many of whom will be more charismatic and have a better setup than you.

If you're the creative kind of person that has no other outlets for it, give it a try. Even if you get no views, it feels awesome to finish a project, and it feels even better if anyone actually watches them at some point.
I was riding the highest high for a whole week the day one of my videos randomly got up to 10k views.

I used to have a YouTube channel with videos that had 100k+ views but I deleted it because autism and obviously no one will ever believe me because the evidence is gone. I don't think streaming is for me, when I tried it in the past I just got bored and couldn't keep up appearances for that long. Also my voice is noticeably autistic so very few people would probably enjoy listening to me talk. If I wanted to get back into kahntent cweation it would be videos again but with all of YouTube's horrible changes over the years I don't think I would enjoy it. Editing videos was also mind-numbingly tedious even if I wasn't half bad at it and could probably finish an edit in half the time it took most other people to do.

If anon can find it in himself to be chill and go with the flow and remembers to say the n-word instead of nigger I think he has about the same chance of success as someone who can function perfectly around people. I think a lot of it is anxiety because social interactions are an unknown to us neets that can get weird because everyone can sense that energy and it makes everyone feel anxious, but if you can get over yourself and just be a genuine self I don't think more is expected of anyone.

I get about 100 viewers per stream and mid-4 figure views on YT. I think I do well because some people want to see horror without the overexaggerated reactions. Since I only stream horror, from time to time I will do a replay of a game I am very familiar with and do minimal commentary and those give me a lot of views as well. Years and years ago I used to stream on The Final Vidya, it wasn't a branded streaming platform in the modern sense, rather it was just some guy's webpage with a video and chat panel you streamed stuff to with generic screencast software. There were a handful of other dudes who streamed stuff and we'd just swap in and out mostly on an ad-hoc basis, or timetable a slot to stream in, and some curated YouTube playlist with random dumb shit would play automatically in the downtime. We'd get maybe 150 concurrent viewers at peak on normal days, and sometimes the site owner would put on the old WWE videogame character royal rumble which was always pretty popular and you'd get like maybe three or four times those views.
My thing was mostly playing through my library of GC games with a shitty capture card but I did some emulation for DS/N64 and some PC games too. Thanks for the memories, lads.

Twitch is just a mess nowadays, a whole lot of hypocrisy happening at all times, it's obvious that they will look away as long as you bring money to the site doesn't matter how suggestive your content might be, and that's not even considering how aggressive they are with unskippable ads, going as far as forcing people to watch 6 ads in a row. I personally don't like Twitch's chat culture, hype trains are just psy-ops to trick people into spending more money, TTS can get very intrusive if they enable it and in general streams feel more like trying to sell themselves than just wanting to give good content to their viewers. Also way too much reaction contect, occasionally it's fine because there are some fun videos they can end watching (like when Henya discovered AVGN) but a lot of people make it their main content.

Fortunately, I broke out of that cycle though. I quit video essays and started doing twitch comp let's plays and became much happier because of it. I was told in some other thread in another board by a whole other community that I had a lot of potential to be a fun and entertaining streamer but all the demons in my head just tell me to never be consistent with it because nothing will come from it and I'm wasting my time. I streamed all my sessions of expedition 33 and had a guy I know IRL show up and chat and some other stranger that shows up often, but that's it. I wanted to do some videos but again, I feel it's pointless, I will never have a big break and do something in entertainment or the creative field as my main job which is what I've always wanted, and it fucking sucks that I'm just gonna be some nameless shmuck that gets to grind a dead end shit job and then die or kill himself. Any and all "potential" I may have had is all but gone now. I have zero motivation to pursue anything like streaming or making videos, even though I used to.

I'm not throwing a pity party here, I just want (You) to give it an honest try and not be like me. If you're feeling creative then do those videos, if you wanna talk while gaming then go ahead and set up that stream. Absolutely go for it, don't be like me and let stupid shit hold you back.

I've done streaming in the past, mostly of niche games I just happen to enjoy, but over the span of like 3 years since I started haven't done more than 20 or 25~ish streams at most.

Some had a few live viewers, like 10 or so, some didn't even reach 2, probably my personal favorites were just playing through Armored Core 1 from start to finish on one go, as well as streams of some other old games.
Also had a backlog of games I purposely didn't play even though I really wanted to, because I wanted to stream them, still have them and still haven't touched them.

I enjoyed streaming, and people seemed to like my voice, but when I would rewatch the VODs myself I would not enjoy the audio balance and that was something I spent a lot of time trying to figure out but couldn't properly fix.

But then I kind of stopped because even though my voice is fine, I'm not very used to actively talking, so when rewatching VODs it always felt like most of my commentary was just slight reactions to things or very obviously trying to force myself to talk about something.
Being a retard who's main language is not English but can't think of words in anything but English really didn't help much for being able to say what I had in mind most of the time, and it was also hard to live-translate what I was reading.
Both of these things ended up giving me a bit of feelings of anxiety, because I know some people would join, see how awkward I was and walk away...

...And finally I also was streaming using an avatar of a character I really like, but I wanted to go and make my own, make it something more personal, but that's a project I never end up finishing, so it kind of also helped put the whole streaming thing on stop.

Sometimes I get a random Korean or JP actually watching when I play Bemani games but it's almost always just people trying to sell art. I'm working on a stream setup for ITG right now for the same reason and it has been a giant pain in the ass to figure out an angle where I get a full body cam where my foot movement is still apparent.

it's way less entertaining/engaging for the audience. we're wired for faces. also as a streamer I can tell you it is way better with a cam because you have much more range as a performer. you have to rely a lot more on fake shit like "OHHHHH" when all you have is your mic. When you have a camera, you can use facial expressions and body language, which can be much more genuine. people don't watch streamers to watch games. they watch streamers to watch streamers.

But I don't want to be a niche streamer either. I saw what happened to Rossboomsocks once he stopped making content of LoL, the views dropped from 200k all the way down to 2k.
The worse thing is that's probably happening to me already. If I post or stream anything that's not about Master Duel, it flops horribly.
How does someone get out of that position successfully?
Anonymous No.718070376
>>718070118
just stop giving a shit. work on the actual product, which is you, not the game you're playing. i assume you aren't getting 200k so who cares if you get less views. You'll enjoy doing it way more, which is way better for any kind of potential future success than just grinding something you hate for 5-10 years because it's popular. might as well just kill yourself at that point. just settle in for the long-ass grind. you need to get yourself into people's feeds many times over many years so that you become a fixture in their minds. eventually people will just know you via repeated exposure and some of them will like you.
Anonymous No.718070740 >>718071862

If you're serious about eventually reaching the point where you can live off streaming, you're going to have to suck it up and basically stick to one game for a long time (pick something with medium popularity, you want a game that gets viewers but there aren't so many popular streamers playing it that you're buried beneath a 100 other channels). After that you can slowly start branching out by either adding one other main game you play at a time or doing playthroughs of short games on specific days of the week. Keep in my mind even with that you only have a 1% percent chance of actually making it as a streamer, but that's basically how everyone who blew up after 2020 (caseoh, jynxzi, etc) did it, along with spamming clips on TikTok.

The crossover you get on TikTok and YT shorts is crazy. The Master Duel guy would probably get impressions from MTG and Hearthstone players as well there. I noticed some comments from people who seem to only watch fitness stuff on a few Pump It Up and StepmaniaX shorts I have up, no cross pollination to my stream because they're not gaming people but it's really interesting to see.

Same thing for me although I never really made it big in streaming.
It's just happened to me in game servers/communities. People start recognizing me because of the things I do in the game and I just start feeling uncomfortable because of it even if it isn't bad attention. So eventually I just stop playing and maybe come back later on an alt. In general I just hate being recognized, be it out in public or on this anonymous imageboard where I waste so much time. I stream a relatively niche (in the west) card game to something like 10 regulars who play the game and a couple of nice autists who have taken a liking to me, one has even drawn fanart of me. I suck at the game but I put some effort into the music I play on stream and I've received good feedback from it. I'm kind of a vtuber too but I barely qualify honestly
It's quite comfy most of the time. I keep my viewer count hidden 99% of the time so I don't have to think about it too much. Frankly I don't mind being very small as long as I can avoid the absolute 0 viewer void. Having something interesting come up or putting effort into a bit and seeing nobody react is very disheartening

What you're basically saying is that you have access to a niche audience and could probably build up a fanbase around it, but prefer not to.
Think to yourself, you like obscure strategy games, so would (You) be interested in watching someone who reviews and streams those types of games?
If the answer is "Yes", then there you have it, you have the chance to be the guy people like you would watch, if it's "No", then you can just not do it, or do it anyway just to see how it goes, got nothing to lose by trying.
