My favorite so far has been a black dragon born barbarian with dark urge.

Doing multiple playthroughs is kind of a drag, honestly. I wish they would have made tons of random events, made procedurally generated dungeon and made major quests all give a 3 choice reward with random stats based on your level. Being able to upgrade gear to level it with you would have been nice too. It just all feels too samey after a couple runs. Makes the potential of the game feel wasted at times.

All that aside, I really do love the game.

I want to play a dwarf, truly I do. Every time I do I get into a situation where if I just had 5ft more movement I could have melee attacked an enemy and I restart. Its not even a good race. Githyanki get free misty step and mage hand, armor and weapon proficiencies, proficiencies on any skill they want for the entire day, and 30ft of movement. Why does the shit race have a downside and the ascended god tier race has no penalties? Dwarf gets 1 extra hp on level up and he doesn't get as sicky of a tum tum when he gets poisoned. Some times balance fags are needed.

In my current playthrough I'm using an all-undead party: lich wizard, oathbreaker paladin wight, hexblade warlock ghoul, and mummy death cleric. Thank god for mods. The only thing that sucks is at early levels it's really hard to find sources of poison to heal, especially in combat.

Some dark vision, free shield proficiency, free flight (use the spell on the harpy ring), CHA class so you can be the party face and very good damage.
And with certain items and the wet effect your frost ray cantrip (or whatever it's called) can hit like a truck.

Ranger is probably the strongest class in the game. Slap on pass without a trace and just shoot enemies from max distance. You succeed almost every stealth check and can just freely shoot enemies without starting combat. Multiclass with assassin rogue and now you get free crits on surprise rounds and stealth expertise. Only archers get slaying arrows and benefit the most from the vulnerable to pierce damage aura that bhaalist armor provides. A crit is double damage, slaying arrows also double damage, and vulnerability doubles damage. Standing in a darkness arrow with the ring or helmet that makes you immune to blind lets you freely shoot without enemies being able to start combat with you as well. It feels a bit like cheating to play stealth archer. Perfect for playing solo or just using your party members as buff slaves.

5e is screwed in this sense as lightning and elevation being factors mean races who don't have Darkvision and/or at least average mobility are in clear disadvantage. This is the main reason why Elves and Half-Elves (and to a lesser extend Drow) are so OP by default. Githyanki belongs to the same tier because of what you mentioned (loaded with features with no downside) then we have the Duergar with their Superior Darkvision, Invisibility at will, one Enlarge per Long Rest and two Resistances that makes them a top-tier choice. If you want to play a Dwarf they're by far your best option.

In terms of role-playing and class selection you're kind of limited but they're still Dwarves with have powerful tools to overcome the potential obstacles. The problem is latter cannot be said about the majority of races in 5e, which must have prompted your balance fags remark. So we have races with inherent advantages (lighting and mobility) and instead of trying to level the ground a little bit for others where it's possible the devs just slapped whatever they thought fits and called it a day. Which is not necessarily bad design but it means race selection is also a difficulty choice in itself.

First playthrough: Half-orc warlock who ended up adding some levels into sorcerer.
Second playthrough: Half-orc paladin who ended up adding some levels into sorcerer.

Sorcerer is really strong, Half-orcs are just fucking cool.

Wizards, being studied in magic, look more practiced and formally trained, while sorcerers look more free-flowing and intuitive; Warlocks have a more diabolical look to their movements; Rangers have short, quick movements, as if having limited training in field magic. It all fits well with the fantasy.

I especially like how Paladins buff themselves by pounding their chest.

You don't have to multiclass if you pick Hexblade. Hexblade gets smite as well and some that even paladin doesn't get. Booming blade cantrip becomes a free 1d8 extra thunder damage at lvl 5. Lots of items synergize well with the battle mage archetype now. Even eldritch knight is pretty good now because of booming blade.

I'm sure it's fine, but honestly Paladin+Bard (Swords) is the best Paladin multiclass experience - using Band of the Mythic Scoundrel for bonus action Hold Persons (and Mental Acuity to stack your DC to the roof) to hit consecutive crits to Smite with is fucking gnarly

Not to mention Bard is both a full caster and a full martial so you can main Bard and multiclass Paladin, making it better at what Sorc/Warlocks multis are trying to do (upscale your Smites while retaining martial full attacks) on top of having good party utility on it's own with autowin skill checks and team buffs

Mobility and Darkvision are very easy to replicate but in a game that'll see you taking thousands of rolls over the course of the game, the statistical advantage of Halfling Luck is way bigger than people give it credit for and is in no other way replicable.

No matter how high you boost your stats, there's nothing you'll ever be able to do to succeed on a 1 without Luck. And here's the thing - an average player with an average build will be sitting in the 60/40 success band range. With Luck, that turns into a 63/37 chance, essentially a 5% increase across the board. Between all the attacks and saving throw in even a short encounter (say 20 rolls), you're looking at one to three free attacks or saves PER ENCOUNTER, which already beats anything that most other races can do.

But if you actually know what you're doing though, you can boost your stats so that the success band is closer to 80/20 - by moving that to 85/15, you've actually increased your overall success chance by 25% (because of how math works). 25% more successful hits and saves is fucking ridiculous and nobody can even compete.

I prefer warlock with Paladin just because you can use charisma for weapon attacks/damage and spells. However it will probably end up feeling more like you are just playing a warlock. If you want the true paladin experience just go pure pally. You multiclass you might just end up eldritch blasting or casting fireballs instead of using smite. I feel like smite and RP is the main reason to play a Paladin. You could be stronger multiclassing, but you will lose your class soul(literally).

replaying honor mode with some friends as a Durge for the first time. Much more enjoyable since one is playing Astarion (the only funny companion) and we killed off/don't have to listen to the others. You also get to kill all the annoying ass NPCs.
I've played swords bard archer to death, so I'm doing pure warlock (hex), a friend is going arcane archer (maybe not quite as strong as EK at end game but so far wildly more powerful and useful earlier), and a friend is a death cleric (utterly worthless compared to a light orb cleric).
Our 4th pops in and out and he's some kind of useless ass wizard, think he's trying to do some meme abjuration wizard tank with cold damage but he's useless as fuck as well.

First playthrough with my brother I was an elf druid (didn't know about Halsin or Jaheira but we didn't use either) and he was a dragonborn barbarian. High STR builds can be quite addicting. Being able to Jump everywhere (an underrated aspect of BG3, almost every major location have upper levels that offer something extra) and solve problems by Throwing could be an uplifting experience. Do you remember the "destroy the Scrying Eye" mini quest in the Grymforge? It's only available if you work with Brithvar on a mutiny against Nere.

Attacking it even in front of the quest giver NPC aggros the whole place, so now you're supposed to follow the thing around during his patrol without being "detected" and find that specific spot where you could kill it without being seen. Or, you know, you can just grab it by a high STR char, chuck it to the chasm nearby (NPCs are not alerted as they can't see it) and finish it with a Javelin if it didn't die from the impact. Boom, 10 secs and you can go back to having fun.

Have a question regarding the balance of my first playthrough.

Context; I'm using a mod that allows me to summon extra monsters, as there is one in particular I wanted (Flind), but it starts at lvl 5 with 110 HP. The only other mods I'm using are 'more enemies in basic encounters', 'extra encounters+minibosses', and the xp rebalance mod that gives you slightly less xp.

I am playing on tactician. Is the increased difficulty of these mods going to outweigh the strength of having Flind, or will we still be too overpowered ? I have no idea how high 110 HP is comparitively to the rest of the game and I don't want to use them if they'll damage sponge the entire game.

By default a level 5 Barbarian has 40HP and they're both the highest class in terms of starting HP (12) and per-level increase (7). This is not including their CON bonus modifier, so if the said Barb has 16 CON that's +3 extra HP per level (total at LVL5: 52HP). Flind and his pack of gnolls often cited as the toughest early-game fight as most players encounter them at LVL3 at most. The problem with the Warlord outside of his bulky HP and decent AC is that his Saving Throws are high in 3 (out of 6 - with no negative modifiers at any!) abilities and has an insane +8 Initiative for some reason.

For comparison the end of Act1 has multiple mini-bosses, one of them is the Bulette that comes with 162HP on Tactician and has +1AC on Flind but worse "minimum" Saving Throws. Another one, the famed Spectator has 153HP but all over worse modifiers and -3 AC. Hell, probably the Minotaurs are the most comparable to him but even if their HP is a little higher (117HP) they're basically Flind Light Editions in all other areas. Not to mention they're "only" level 4 compared to the rest (who are all 5 by default). And their Initiative are nowhere near Flind's and they don't carry a unique Mace +2. Again they're all located at the last quarter of Act 1, that players often called as "Act 1.5" for a reason.

So I know nothing about the mods but Flind will wreck some shit by himself. Very minor spoiler: you can reach Act2 from two late-Act1 regions, but nothing prevents you from completing both to maximize XP and loot. I've done almost everything the Act has to offer and close to the last 10% of it content-wise and I'm still "only" halfway to level 7. Most players reach the said regions and travel to Act2 at level 5 or so. This was clearly what the devs' expected and they designed this locations accordingly.

I also did my first playthrough as warlock and I didn't find cha to be broken in conversations because 90% of the conflict you avoid is with subhuman filth you should be killing on sight anyway like goblins or drow.

What's really broken is shadow blade. My Hexblade didn't get a single upgrade all game after I learned it because it's damage is so over tuned.

Playing a human in DnD is actually really a meta play. Especially if you kit out a Variant human fighter.
In BG3 it's different. Like they get a lot of weapon proficiencies off the bat, but they fall short of the bonuses given to other races like Fleet of Foot for elves.
In BG3 humans get fucking nothing compared to the tabletop.
They also castrated my personal favourite race to play, Dwarves.
Part of it is they married the point buy system without also adding the racial ability score bonuses.

I got a half-elf monk woman going right now. I did open hand of course but I'm still low level and using weapons for now because they're stronger. Monk is probably the most MAD class but STR is the odd ability out there. It's absolutely not "needed" for a Monk, it's just TB is the single-handedly most broken Feat in the game which also has easily accessible STR elixirs as well. Otherwise no class can maintain more than 3 abilities without serious back draws, so STR by default is only "there" to be able to fine-tune your Monk at the cost being worse elsewhere. E.g. if you don't mind being more squishy for some extra carry weight you can lower CON and put those at STR. So the situation is that you want to go pure DEX/CON/WIS either way (even if it means dumping your STR down to 8), the only remaining question if you jump into the TB+STR elixir rabbit hole.
