The bundle copies aren’t being counted (many, I’m sure), and Piscatella confirms this in a recent follow-up on his Bluesky thread, which you can read below.]

AAA gaming being so expensive whilst simultaneously being buggy unoptimised shit with minimal content at launch for so long has already naturally conditioned me to wait at least 6-12 months before even considering buying their shit. And even then I'll only buy it on sale for at least 50% off or more. If the game has Denuvo then no buy until that is removed even if the price gets stupidly cheap.

I think the videogame industry will go the other direction people here expect it to.

I think the audience will shrink but the price will go up to compensate.

I think by 2035 you will see $500 games with insane DRM that are extremely niche but sell 100,000 units to their respective autists.

Mainstream AAA that cater to everyone will die, it's already dying if we're being completely honest. Even indies are dying because no one buys the stuff that has universal appeal anymore.

People buy factorio, crusader kings 3, flight simulator and other very specific niches.

And we all know every single one of those demographics would happily pay $500 for the same game.

You guys realize that most people don't play games right? And I don't mean non-gamers. I mean people that buy the games, literally don't play them.

Most people purchase games based on hype on social media without ever starting the game as evidenced by achievements and thropies. If they start a game more than half stop playing after the first 2 hours, 90% stop playing after 5-6 hours.

This is why no one cares about quality and only wants to milk the purchases. Developers realize the people that ACTUALLY play the games are a minority, so you don't need to cater them. In fact the game itself is merely an excuse for the hype cycle.

It's all there to try and generate fomo and get people to buy the game and never play it.

It's funny because the "people who actually play games" group is hated the most by developers.

People who buy games and never play them is their target demographic which they actually want.

People who don't buy games but watch streams add to the hype cycle and social media FOMO farming which is what these companies want and need to rope in the first group.

Meanwhile people that actually play the game add nothing to the company except potential complaints and "entitled whining". It's actually in the best interest of these companies to try and minimize the amount of people actually playing the game, which is insane when you think about it.

i will break out the popcorn and laugh as gta sells at 100 bucks or something retarded, and then for the next few years devs try to emulate it and repeatedly fail to understand that the ip popularity is what determines the price point for normies, and for hobbyists even that doesn't determine it, and all completely flop and scream into the void because of it
>bbbbbut they can charge that why can't i, I AM ENTITLED TO THAT MONEY
the only people buying at these price points are streamers for the most part, because the price will never matter to them even if its 500 bucks because it's a tax write off and they make it all back instantly anyway

Haven't bought games for more than $5 in over a decade with very few exceptions that I deemed worth it, like Sekiro or Hi-Fi Rush. Way too much good shit out there for dirt cheap or free to blow tons of cash on the newest releases. The fomofags who can't handle not playing a game for its own sake and need to feel like they're part of everyone else playing it can continue to subsidize the hobby for me.

Every guy I know younger than me has came clamoring to learn how to pirate. It was like a tsunami. It started roughly 6 months ago and hasn't stopped since. By my friends/relations from games and discords alone I can tell that at least 1/5 of gamers I know have adopted piracy in the past year. Those are only the ones I know about. I've tried to hold on, I was a mega piratefag until around 2012 or so. But even with the ability to pay these days, the prices have became fucking insulting. I'm not paying 120aud-135aud for a video game. Ever. Not in a million years. It either doesn't get bought at all or it gets pirated, simple as. There's armies of games out there for 30-40 aud that are just as fun and give me all my bang for my buck. We're gonna see a lot of heads rolling across the next five years. It's the same thing that happened with woke games, you can't make us buy something if we're not willing to pay for it.

GTA6's ridiculous price will become either the nail in the coffin or the shekelening.

Look at that new RoboCop game. I saw it for 75% off the same year it was released! Why slash prices on games that are worth literally 10x more.

i personally think it's a good thing, most bigger new genres were price locked at 4.99 and below and inflation has only increased heavily since 2020. also people view spending money for vidya more frugally than any other entertainment media. it's interesting how many gamers there are and how actively viewed less vidya products are in society, the only thing worse is movies at the moment due to streaming services packaging everything into a neat subscription becoming the norm. streaming is even worse than movies in this regard for music. with microsoft and other companies wanting to decrease the value of vidya, it's good companies are trying to push back to maintain some sort of market before pure stream-slopification for vidya.

There's no fallacy.
People are constantly bitching about game prices and never bitching about the actually damaging ways that games are constantly hollowed out for monetization. Ergo most of the people complaining about game prices ARE hypocrites by definition.
Furthermore it doesn't matter if someone "cares about" the various monetization plagues of the industry in the abstract, what matters is what people say and do. If you refuse to buy an $80 game but choose to ever buy a $50 game with and a $30 season pass, you are the fucking cancer killing games. Not the jews, not the evil strawmen game devs, YOU.
