Can you explain, mechanically, how you remembering what a birch tree looks like differs from the AI knowing what a birch tree is supposed to look like due to it having been fed images of birch trees? Both are pulling from earlier experience when asked to produce a birch tree.

The issue with AI is that, like so many things in life, if you give an inch people will take a mile.

Maybe you're OK with an experienced talented engineer using Copilot to tab-complete their way through some routine shader loading code, always making sure to inspect and test the generated code of course. But this leads to non-programmers vibe coding their way to a slow buggy house of cards that they expect you to pay money for.
Maybe you can accept some wood textures courtesy of Stable Diffusion, but then it gets used for skyboxes, player models, and overall art direction.
Using AI to generate placeholder voice lines sounds like a great idea, and then people start getting the nerve to actually fucking ship them and expect me to be happy playing though the whole game listening to a robot.

A human who has never seen something before most definitely cannot glean anything except visual data from a picture of that something. No matter how long they stare at it, they cannot know more without searching for more information from other sources.

Sometimes I look at games now and see content that is too advanced, too creative (though not entirely novel), and with too much scope than what the actual developer team size could possibly actually provide and I just assume it was done with the help of AI. And I just enjoy it for what it is, ultimately I dont care, as long as everything is put together well and the game is fun.

For two games with the same production values, a game that uses AI to some extent simply will have deeper and more content than a game that doesnt use any AI because theyll have more time for humans to focus on completely novel ideas. I feel like both technologies got discovered too early to see meaningful improvement at a reasonable pace, unless a new architecture is developed - transformer models and current gpus are too ineficient. Yes, if they used if for concept art, story boarding, general ideas, etc. you couldn't prove shit.
If they used if for text gen such as dialog it would be close to impossible unless they used it everywhere and had no prompt variety to the point of being able to analyze common patterns and phrases, even then would be tough to call that proof.

Image generation you could probably identify through analysis based on patterns and micro details that would only be done by generative AI. Also some models hide watermarks in them, but it would depend on the complexity of the image. The simpler your image is the harder it would be to identify as AI.
There are also many ways you could make it harder or impossible to identify such as generating it then redrawing by hand, tracing, running certain kinds of filters to smooth and simplify it, taking a photo of your image, etc.

3D Models, music, and video would basically be the same as images. If you generated and used them directly they would probably be identifiable but you could post-process and clean them to make that much more difficult or impossible. 3D models could be smoothed, reduced to simpler common shapes or tweaked. Music can be converted to midi and tweaked or played on different instruments.

Bottom line is that the homo commie artists cannot do shit they can only make it slightly less convenient, people will absolutely be using AI and not reporting it.

AI means that there is potential for models to be trained on games from years ago that were good so it offers at least some hope of a good game being made again some day.
