I think I finally realized what it is about 'diversity character design' I don't like. All the characters are never designed to look good in the game, they are meant to appeal to the diversity group they are pandering to.
Other games can have characters who are black or crippled or whatever and have them feel real in their world because they'll have aspects of that world written into their story. They are a character of their world.
Diversity characters meanwhile always have to hyper focus on ensuring their depiction of the character checks off all the boxes, to the point where the character is no longer in service of the world, but the world is now in service to the character.
>"Its a black woman character, so we should set up the world to be oppressive and sexist to them so we can break those stereotypes we keep enforcing onto ourselves"
Its depressing. Reminds me of that one video which keeps getting posted here of FF7 Remake where some lady asks cloud to dance with her gay group, everyone in this world is a fucking anime design and then suddenly you have 'generic black woman' who looks like she was pulled out from the sims there to tick off the diversity character checkmark.
Best part is you cant say this or you're called a racist by those for and against this point.
