I've been trying out Gunlance recently and I'm not really sure how people keep saying, "I'm doing 2 times more damage than everyone in my groups".

I've been using all the same combos as speedtrannies, both for Wide and Normal. I have a god rolled Fire and Ice Artian and a half decent Charm for my G. Bors Arkveld GL too. But it still just feels weaker than my other weapons. So I took it to the Training Room and I used the best combos for Gunlance over a couple minutes and did it again on a bunch of different weapons. And Gunlance just always did okay. Nothing amazing. Not enough to be considered god tier. In most instances, it was also weaker.

Are these people lying to me or is there some secret I'm just not aware of? I'm copying the optimum DPS rotations from speedtrannies and the meta guide.

Gunlance does true damage fir the most part. You wont be gettint the numbers you see on the dummy on anything tougher than a Quematrice for most weapons. Except with gunlance.

Really depends on what you're looking for. If you want to dip your toes back in, the free trial got extended to include the full base game and the first two expansions (heavensward and stormblood).
If you don't like the story/don't feel like getting through a hefty amount of story and the combat didn't interest you whatsoever, I'd say probably just keep playing something else. But if you got a hint of the possibility of enjoyment from the combat you experienced, and you thought the story might be more tolerable once it gets its footing, the trial is still free. It took me 60hrs to realize you can play all hunting horn songs while mounted on the seikret. My teammates probably thought I was dumb for not playing songs while riding.
I also didn't know they added a buff where if you get perfect timing on the wound break with focus attack you get a 6th note with echo bubble. It's literally not even mention anywhere in the hunter notes. I only found out because I watched a speed runner and wanted to see how he dodges certain moves from a monster.

Does this happen to you and your weapon? Why didn't they update the hunter notes in game to include this information... It's not a small indie company
