It’s a great triple AAA title. Even the “worst” area, The Hideway, at most was just a bit boring to go through. The music, level design and side content were a testament to just how solid FF16’s foundation is that a “bad” area is still extremely enjoyable to play through. And that was before Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide, I genuinely liked the side quests in a casual play through and thought it made things fun. It was always optional! Eikon abilities are one of the best things introduced in the franchise alongside upgrading them, and switching too. God I love FF16’s combat. And story-wise, I think they just had a lot of loose ends to tie up which made things a bit rushed. The party members had amazing chemistry in this, and the endgame is amazing. The last boas genuinely made me tear up with some of the dialogue and themes, Titan and Bahamut in general was super sick to just fight through. Maybe I need to give it a re-play, but the initial game that released after more than a 7 years of waiting for the next main entry left me totally disappointed. It was like a bimbo, nothing but aesthetics without any real story or intellect, and I thought that's what the franchise WAS all about after everything that went down in XV, instead, after so many years, I was left with nothing but just another glossy, flashy game, without any actual substance, and it completely turned me off the franchise despite it trying to have done damage control with DLCs and the whole Tekken collaboration thing (and I say this actually liking the Tekken universe and lore).

VII is the face of the franchise, always has been. Remake and Rebirth are guaranteed to keep selling, Remake's a perfect example, came out in 2020 and it's still selling, over 7 million sold by 2023.
Rebirth got great reviews, tons of awards, strong word of mouth, and the fanbase actually likes it. It has legs.

Meanwhile XVI is widely considered one of the bottom three, along with XIII and XV, heck, I’m pretty sure most people put XVI at the very bottom. It's dead on arrival. No legs, no buzz, nobody cares. It flopped on PS5, flopped on PC, and it flopped on Xbox too. Hell, if it ever ends up on Switch 2, it'll bomb there just the same.

A few points I would like to address:

1) God of War on difficulty "Give Me God of War" is a very challenging, sometimes frankly frustrating, filtering game. This difficulty level is open from the very beginning of the game, by the way. No stupid gatekeeping. XVI is just not comparable to God of War 2018 in terms of difficulty and balance. The height is simply unattainable for XVI. QTE in GoW for me was a time to rest a little and catch my breath from the literal bloodbath, QTE in XVI is a time to take a nap.
2) Vanille is the best.
3) Lightning is the Purest Rose.

I'll remind you by the way that Rush, the main character of The Last Remnant, Takai's previous game, died without a long essay on the power of friendship or other hot topic. He didn't explain the plot, only noted the obvious fact about himself that he is a Remnant, which looked organic, since the characters hadn't discussed this issue before cause Rush didn't share this with anyone, so as not to worry anyone and to just accept his fate in the end and save everyone if necessary.
