I'm mixed on this ep. I enjoyed a few moments and Pomni confronting Jax is great but Kinger talking to Ragatha about how relationships needs to be two-sided and then Pomni asking Jax "I thought we're on the same team" felt unnaturally preachy. Also being shown more than one therapy session is too much and I hate how much time those took away, but I guess they needed to get all of that out in the way before the next ep which I wouldn't mind if that's the case but now we have to wait months for the next ep.

The show is all about learning to love yourself for who you are. That’s the fucking beaten in theme of the story. All of the characters learn to care about thenselves and to care about all of their expressions and learn that they don’t need the approval of others. This will coincide with the reveal the Caine betrayed his brother Abel somehow because people liked his adventures more than Caines. It’s a parallel to the biblical story. Gangle is a nothingburger, Zooble is a confused nothingburger whose only relevance is as a speculative trigger for Caine's insanity, Kinger's arc was tied up in episode 3 and now he basically just exists as the wise old man, Ragatha's arc got second billing in the episode specifically dedicated to her and was tied up in 6 as far as we know, Pomni is essentially the neutral stand-in character for the audience so the circus veterans can diagetically explain the mechanics to her.
Jax, on the other hand, has had prominent presence in the last two episodes, his arc is nowhere near completed, and he has the agency to bend the plot and the actions of the show more than any other character. The only one who can come close in importance to him is Caine, and beyond his administrative roles, he's been largely absent from the cast (though his glitching-out behavior seems to be leading up to a massive turn in the plot).
We still have 3 episodes or whatever, and considering the roller coaster that was the delta between 5 and 6, who knows what could happen? But who's the most likely person that would even drive that whiplash? Jax. Or Caine, if he's set off.

Just be nice instead.

Jax is still 22. He's a bit of a baby. He hasn't had the life experience of Kinger or Ragatha and the attempt to fulfill his dream like Gangle.

Remember when you were 22? Those high school days and traumas didn't mysteriously vanish overnight. At best you were sequestered into a job you didn't want and at worst you worked for a dead end job trying to make sense of society. Add to that being thrust into the DC and you have his unresolved real life shit going on on top of his current predicament. Like he believes he's the most hated person in the Circus, so I believe he created this disassociation to try and cope with whatever underlying trauma he never resolved in the real world.

I've worked with early 20s kids in places worse than the circus (iykyk). A lot of them, especially now, don't know what to do with their lives. Most of them just want a place to live and figure hit out while occasionally enjoying the better parts of life. That was taken away from Jax and Zooble. It still doesn't excuse how Jax acts with his sociopathic tendencies. In the real world he would at best get a lecturing from someone wiser (Kinger in this case) but at worst he'd get an ass kicking (Pomni) but that's part of life. Poking the bear and seeing what's going to happen.
It explains why Zooble was revealed to be a promiscuous body dysmorphic rebel. And might explain that Jax never fully accepted the fact he was gay.

I think it's implied that she was getting ready to shoot herself during that scene, even if it didn't actually happen. When Jax saw what's going on he dropped the overtly-hostile act, got defensive, and said he was only joking before Pomni started to attack him. Jax saw what his actions were about to cause and stopped Pomni before she pulled the trigger.
Of course, Goose would have had to take this route regardless because of Youtube's censorship policies.

all the characters seem to have the same ability as canine in the sense that there will can be enacted in the circus. It's just that no one realizes this and therefore never acts on it. Kinger seems to understand this but for whatever reason chooses not to act on it.
My personal theory is that Kinger is the creator or at least a developer of the circus but chooses to be a player instead of an admin similar to how many developers may play there own game. Caine being an admin who doesn't understand the world but has the understanding that he is an admin therefore being able to have the powers of one cause he perceives himself as one.

My thoughts on each character.

Ragatha clearly comes from an abusive mother and as a people pleaser she's very annoying but she's also very troubled so overall I like her.

Kinger is the GOAT.

Caine is the GOAT.

Zooble is just a typical Hot Topic employee, she's fine overall her role is to be Goose's self insert and that's all.

Pomni has grown a lot, she's a good character and the most reasonable character since she's the straight man character. She's my favorite girl.

Jax is an asshole but clearly he's going through a lot. He comes off as an immature teenager and he's obviously lost people important to him, he's the most fleshed out character so far.

I doubt he was really shitty in the cruel and abusive sense, the little he mentions though about his wife liking insects while he hated them gives me the sense that they probably had a lot of diverging or conflicting interests, and in a normal environment that's fine and actually pretty healthy. I don't get why Jax didn't play off the question of what he would do if Pomni abstracted more flippantly. Obviously he's full of shit, but if he was better at putting on his mask he wouldn't have come off so pathetically tryhard edgy and cringe.

Jax isn't actually very good at controlling his emotions, he basically only gets away with the act because the other members (sans Kinger cause he just doesn't acknowledge anyone in a normal way most of the time) is so fed up with him that they just let him pretend. Pomni nailed him down easy because he's not actually able to hold his act under pressure.
Probably also why he goes in on Gangle so often, she is the least likely to fight back so giving her shit is the least likely to backfire.
He can't just be distant and quiet, he has to be performative because he's so insecure in the LARP that the second things are quiet and he isn't acting out his role he falls apart. It's most obvious in this episode when he has a panic attack at the award show but I'd bet that whenever it's "sleep" time and he's alone by himself he's probably miserable and restless.

Because before Pomni changed the social dynamics of the group his coping strategy was "stable". Gangle is his easy target, Kaufmo was presumably the other "silly" character for him to bounce off of, Zooble just leaves if things are too distasteful for her, Ragatha used to be too passive to really fight back against him meaningfully, and Kinger isn't usually cognizant enough to meaningfully participate.
After Pomni arrives she starts trying to befriend him which makes him deeply uncomfortable, Gangle is less willing to be his punching bag and starts going off to interact with Ragatha and Zooble more, Ragatha starts regularly calling him out and arguing with him, and Zooble is actively picking on him and making him into the butt of jokes.
This basically breaks down his "funny asshole" character routine from all sides, and while it's a great improvement for every other character's sanity it also leaves him no options to cope in the way he knows how. Presumably the upcoming episode will bring him to a crisis point where he either has to learn a better way to deal with his stress or abstract.

Not quite. Pomni was very wary of Jax after episode 2. As Pomni said, it was Jax who reached out to her, not the other way around. Jax could've kept it relatively stable if he continued to keep Pomni at a distance, but it's like he wanted to have his cake and eat it too. He wanted to get closer to her, but also not. Despite his intentions, subconsciously he couldn't help but seek out human connection. That's why Ragatha's comment confused him about trying to get close to Pomni. It wasn't even something he "meant" to do.
