Absolute beginner here.
After watching tons of yt videos i decided to google best books for beginers amd on almost all sites this book pops up. *Understanding exposure how to shoot great photograps with any camera by bryan peterson*
This nigger shoots almost all his pics at f>16, a vast majority at f22 and even f32
The yt niggers told me that difraction kick in at >f11 and hould be avoided
But this nigger shoots even portrait at f8 or f11
Is this nigger crazy or the yt shills are lieing to me?
Book has very good revies and sold almost 1mil copies.
What is your take and any other good book i should look into to understand exposure and composition?

not caring about diffraction is a midwit trap for m4thirdies

it matters when scanning larger formats expecting an advantage when printing large

Not a matter of quantity alone but of control, Zach. It's directing the light that counts. They let you put the light where you need it. Have a primer.
flashes are useful because then you can shoot more light into your photo
>>4479646 (OP)
They're an artistic tool. The "photo" in photography means light.
>>4479646 (OP)
>>4474666

They add light. Without light you cannot take a photo. They also let you control how much light is in your photo, what kind and colour the light is, how many sources of light, as well as where the light comes from.

The industry needs to copy Leica & OM System
Brace for my third world tough environment cope thread
>there's IP-rated gaming mice
>there's $200 chineseium smartphones with IP69K ratings

It seems like it's a fully reasonable thing to want to know just how well the stuff you want to buy holds up against the elements.. especially professional cameras

>Go to purchase $6000 "pro body camera"
>Canon
"Dude, please trust us! The Canon EOS R1 is weather sealed! Because our marketing division said so! We don't have any proof of this, or any testing, but please trust us bro look at our brochure look at our website bro it's weather sealed bro please bro"
>Nikon
"broooo it's the Nikon Z9 bro we sealed it just like our D6 bro remember DSLRs??? Remember how tough those were???? Yeah buddy you know you can trust us come one just spend $7000 on this camera we are the wildlife brand!"
>Sony
They don't even try. DPReview turned a hose on the alpha 7 III and it died because there were literally no rubber seals in the battery compartment.

Why do people do this? Do people actually spend tens of thousands of dollars on cameras/lenses that can't prove resistance beyond marketing teams telling you so? Why isn't the industry being forced to back up their claims?
>Le rainbag meme
Useless against dust & sand, and do you genuinely expect me to carry around several rainbags for different lenses, or make my own from a grocery bag and take it around with me? Its cumbersome, and its hassle.
>Le "just don't take a picture! I wouldn't push my camera that hard!"
Sounds like cope to me, works if you consider photography or videography a hobby and not your purpose in life, I want to take my camera to warzone, etc., anything for the picture, but I sure want my camera to survive if I do.

Leica makes IP54 rated cameras.
OM System makes IP53 rated cameras & lenses.
Why don't more companies do so? It's not expensive to get certification, I just want camera manufacturers to be honest & upfront about how far we can push our cameras.

favorite wtf lens
This is my favorite odd lens. It's a a hundred year old Bausch & Lomb Animar C-mount lens that came on some throwaway 16mm magazine camera a seller threw in my box to get rid of. This this has a poor ape range, f2.7 to 16 only, no other controls, no focus, nothing. It is absoluly TINY, this thing is like an inch long, made entirely out of stainless steel and glass, and rotates with the smoothest feel with the finest firm little indexing clicks of any Lens I've ever felt. I keep it on a body just so I can rotate it because it feels so good, like the barrel is just floating along on teflon roller bearings and somehow the very peak of each click is a microscopic metal spring that just clicks over like a timepiece clockwork. I've got a dozen other fancy-ass collectable C lenses for my Bolex 16mm, and yet I put this on and everything looks sharp as shit and the colors are just fucking dandy. So I got a Z-mount adapter, popped it on my Z7, and now I'm shooting with this fucking goofy antique lens but I swear it outperforms all the other third party Z lenses I've got for snapshitz. Of course you're gonna crop, downsize & recalc it anyway when you develop snapshots so idgaf about the coverage, but I suppose it'd be appealing to you MFT nerrrds bc you'd get full coverage of your sensore.

and no of course you can't see the same colors it produces on Ektachrome movie film on a digital sensor so i'm not even going to pretend, but

>the room im has lights on and is lit enough even for a chinesium phone to take a properly exposed image.
>my camera? both VF and live view are darker than the general population of London
can barely make up stuff in the image, its so dark... even when i point it into the light on the ceiling, its just a feint ball of light... the image is so dark, its like someone ran down the exposure scroll bar until everything got black...

i have to go up to ISO 8k+, just to get to 0.0 exposure reading... like what the fuck is that?!
worst part is... every time i press the focus button, the image goes light and gets properly exposed for under a second until the camera focuses and then everything goes dark again...

1. first i thought its only VF and live view that show a dark image and that the shot will actually look normally exposed but nope... even when i take an image, its just as dark as it is on live view or through vf...

2. then i thought the lens died or got damaged so i changed the lens but nope, same shit...

3. after that i thought exposure comp... but exposure compensation also is not it, since i cant change it in the options while the camera is in M (manual) mode.

4. then i tried switching the camera into A (auto) mode and sure enough, the image instantly got properly exposed... i tried taking an image to inspect which settings the camera chose to get proper exposure but the values were nearly identical as what i set myself on M mode (shutter speed 1/80, ISO 125, f1.4) and yet the image was not dark, it was properly exposed, whereas when i am on these same exact ISO/shutter/aperture values, i have to go up to ISO 8600 just to get to normal 0.0 exposure reading... wtf?!!

please help... i have to wake up in 7 hours

Lust for Recognition
I am going to be honest anons. I am highly ambitious photographer and have a strong desire for critical acclaim for my work but I am not getting it and it is causing me lots of mental stress. I can't mange to live with myself. There are very minimal prospects of getting published from where I am. There is a deep rooted fear in me of fucking up and making mediocre art. I am not even "putting myself out there" because I loath myself that you still haven't forged your style, your education and practice is not complete and also because people scare me. I keep saying to myself one day things will fall into their place then I will be ready to take my shot.

I don't know how to get myself out of this pit.

Film is expensive to film, develop and scan.

Yet what do they do? They film the most mundane bullshit.
Traffic lights. Or some mediocre bullshit to some obscure indie song.

Why do they all do this?

If you're gonna spend hundreds of dollars. Atleast film something good. But it's like they think the vintage aesthetic will make their shit good.

It's like they just want to see what their mundane boring life would look like on film.

The findings reveal that landscape pictures on Instagram echo Romantic era paintings, using similar motifs and aesthetic strategies. Instagrammers, like 19th-century Romantic painters, emphasize themes of solitude, mystification, sublimity, and nostalgia, contrasting sharply with contemporary issues like ecological crises. By staging and aesthetically transforming nature, Instagrammers medially reverse the destruction of nature and create idealized landscapes that evoke a bygone, pre-industrial era and an intact human-nature relationship. Accordingly, landscape images on Instagram can be interpreted as a new idealized, romantic reality or as a postmodern reinvention of Romanticism. Instagrammers seek out photo locations based on their ability to synthesize as many physical elements as possible into an ‘instagrammable’ scenery, creating a stereotypical romantic landscape image.

Post-processing
Alright, /p/. I got my first nice camera JUST IN TIME for a 2-week vacation where I shot over 14,000 photos in various levels of motion, light, and subject type. Throughout my trip I experimented a lot and really started to internalize the exposure triangle to the point where I'm perfectly comfortable shooting manual without any confusion or issues.

At this point, I feel like I've learned enough that I just need to practice practice practice, but I have almost zero experience with post-processing photos. I have over a decade of casual experience with Adobe programs, so I'm at least familiar with image stuff, but it was mostly UX design and motion graphics. I'm a bit colorblind, so I fear I'll never be able to do any decent color grading, but I'd really like to start dipping my toes into post-processing photos so I can start shooting in super low light, and generally just touching up my favorite shots.

What tips do you have for a beginner here? What software, workflow, techniques, etc. do you use, and what things should you always do, or avoid doing in post?

Do you submit to magazines or prizes? I know the meme is that you can only hope to leave just one or two worthwhile photos after you die. But what’s wrong with trying to build a career?

If I had the money, I'd participate in the Mobile Photography Awards, alas the entry fees turn it into gambling

That's not grain. Have you heard of tabular and T?

Have you heard of vignetting, soft focus, noise, chromatic aberration?

>XH2S is superior to Panasonic/Sony/BMPCC and any of other cameras in the price range.

Mmh, I don't particularly agree, sure, it's way better than any Sony, but Panasonic has way better menus and the BMPCC shoots objectively better footage if you got like $2000 extra to rig it up.

Lenses do cause grain and other effects. You are just objectively wrong.

>need a high bitrate to color grade
Do you need high bitrate to color grade. Have you ever traded color grading shitty footage? It's impossible. It looks bad no matter what you do.

Optics
Where can I learn about optics and optical science? I want to know more about cameras to the point I could know everything about a camera’s settings without looking at metadata. I want to know if I can work out a camera’s settings or lens just by looking at a photograph and analysing it.
For instance, can you work out the shutter speed or aperture through deduction if you already know the ISO or focal length or distance to subject or depth of field? My question is about the exposure triangle and knowing whether one element in a camera’s setting can give you clues to the other elements.
Surely there have been forensics used on this level, in some sort of criminal case. Or do they usually only look for manufacturing clues for the camera’s build and make?

When I was in college, the head of our photo dept who was only in his late 30s could look at a printed photo and reliably critique your camera settings, lighting scheme, and printer in a single glance. It was pretty amazing until I realized just how many images he'd been looking at for how...

I like his work but we are in a pretty poor shape in terms of cinema if his visual style is considered legacy
