disc rot is a serious problem. In 2014 I spent over a year archiving old magazine CDs & DVDs from the 90s to early 2000s. I also went through home-burnt CDs. Of the 200 or so professionally printed CD/DVDs about 5 were completely unreadable, around 20 were damaged and only partially extractable as zip dumps and the rest were slowly on their way out, as reading speed got really bad. The home made CDs from the late 90s+ had a much higher failure rate. I've been slowly uploading that stuff to the Internet Archive. If I were to check on those old CDs again today, there would be at least 30% unreadable. Honestly, archiving old media is the most thankless shit anyone can do, sometimes I wonder why I even bother. All you ever do is give material to some future zoomer (or whatever comes after) shithead, so he can make videos for free monies.

And now if you visit any website from within the EU, you get bombarded with full screen cookie pop-ups full of dark patterns trying to trick you into "consenting". Oh, and it doesn't even matter because they put in a "legitimate interest" clause that says they can track you even if you say no. Its all theater that doesn't actually hurt their bottom line.
