Can someone explain to why the programmer dudes making all these Japanese learning tools still jump through these extreme hoops of following the paradigm of basically sending your local subtitles to a html page in your browser to then be able to mine it with yomitan in the browser?
Why hasn't someone just made a local version of yomitan instead that doesn't require the browser? And that may sound ignorant but at this point so much work has been put into all these plugins and tools to fake mine from your own local files in the browser that I just have to assume a yomitan like app could've just been made as a local executable. and we're already using local data for everything anyway, like the dictionaries and screenshots and audio recording. what exactly does the browser provide?
