I'm beginning to feel that the Supporter system has worked to the detriment of the series as a whole; if it's taking away characters that were actually pilots with their own units, it's missing the point of Super ROBOT Wars.
medieval people: >ate whole foods >ate plenty of meat, cheese, had complex carbohydrates in whole grain bread, and non-GMO vegetables/fruits >did not have to worry about advanced, artificial, exogenous hormones and metals poisoning their endocrine system from a municipal water supply (or bottled water, or cleaning products that ultimately use municipal water as a base) >walked everywhere >did plenty of physical labor >got tons of quality sleep >were spiritually and socially fulfilled and thus had a significantly lower amount of cortisol stunting development and growth >trained in fighting and exercising just like we do now >had cleaner air and no plastic products in their clothing, shoes, toys, tools, cookware, dinnerware, etc >were also entirely different in an evolutionary sense and had certain physical, endocrinological, and neurological advantages as a result of a less complex form of "domestication" compared to the evidently dysgenic effect of modern post industrial life
if you're getting the sense that some bumfuck peasant in ye olde nowheresville lived better than you in many ways a thousand years ago, unfortunately you'd be right. we enter the age of darkness

lacking the foresight to avoid being in that position in the first place is a skill issue in and of itself, and a sufficiently competent user can still deflect bolts perfectly well.

This always stood out to me, too. I guess they needed some variety for the cover.
