how the fuck did they tank the company with SF6 when it has been and continues to be an absolutely bare minimum viable product? they don't even animate the shit for real anymore. they just mocap Street Fighter on the cheap.

the only current gen fighter i've supported is Granblue Versus Rising, and most of that came down to; art direction, launching with like 25 characters, running 5-6 character seasons while other games were only managing 4 characters, inoffensive gameplay, and it being the first ArcSys game to try alternate costumes.

writing Xrd and Strive off because they're not "metal" feels a bit extreme. if i came in here and one of my main criticisms of SF6 was that it veered into hip-hop sounds and aesthetics, i don't think that would hold up under scrutiny very long.

this is anecdotal, but Street Fighter 6 doesn't look like Street Fighter to me, either. the switch from key frame animation to motion capture really disrupts what SF is supposed to look and feel like, to me. they've got characters in that game throwing blue and lime green particle effects all over half the screen who've never had a blue or green particle effect in their lives. cramming all the SF4 and SFV system mechanics into one Drive meter isn't enough to make it "feel like SF" to me, either.

for as bad as the classic costume model looks, it's a breath of fresh air seeing him key frame animated again. he looks great in motion. using mocap for all the SF6 animations really tanked the overall look of their game.
