The issue is that Carol arrives at the house at the same time in both normal and weird routes. And in weird Kris never learns that Susie has the guitar until they leave the house. Meaning that it couldn't have been Carol on the phone with Kris, since the caller was rushing over to stop Susie.

I still think it was Catti. We thought we were only hearing snippets of the person on the other end, but if it's Catti then they just talk like that. It can't be Dess since there's no way she could make an appearance in broad daylight to stop Susie, it can't be Carol since she was coming home at that point regardless, so it had to be a third party who was welcome in Noelle's house and could show up uninvited - and Catti is close enough to Noelle to do that.

The story about her and Kris trying their hand at summoning a demon as kids is also famous enough that even Susie's heard of it.

And that's only if the SOUL isn't its own person seperate from Kris like they were in Undertale. If the gremlin moments were never coming from Kris and instead the person they'd kidnapped and were keeping in a cage at the foot of their bed...

...was the person Kris was talking to the phone in Noelle's house Catti? Catti and Kris seem to have a background with each other of some kind, specifically in the occult. In fact, Susie's heard rumors that Kris and Catti tried to summon a demon as kids. What if they succeeded?

Catti, while fiddling with her phone, tells you "... don't die." before you enter the first Dark World with Susie and says "You're alive....Nice." after you come back and talk to her in the diner. It's very possible that she's talking about Susie, since she clearly doesn't like her, but it's also possible that she knew about the Dark World in the closet beforehand.

Catti and the phone person both have the same speech patterns with a LOT of ellipses, and the phone person evidently thought that making an appearance at Noelle's house wouldn't be an issue. It couldn't have been Dess then, since Dess is supposed to be missing. It can't be Carol, she shows up at the same time on both routes, even when Kris doesn't call.

But Catti? She's been invited over to Noelle's house several times.

Catti is also extremely insistent that you protect Noelle from Susie, also saying that "You walk among the dark" to Kris.

If it isn't Dess, and it isn't Carol, and the voice talks the same way that Catti does...then it must be Catti, righjt?

No idea. If I had to guess, their purpose is to keep us contained and controlled so fate proceeds as it should - the SOUL is the only thing that can stop the Roaring by defeating Titans and sealing Dark Fountains, and they're its cage.
