Rhode Islander here. This is true. We were already closed to being fucked before Curt Schilling came along. But here's the deal. RI was already losing jobs and money. If you needed a job you needed to go to Conn. or Mass. But the Gov in Providence thought that a big name like Curt, creating a game studio in the main city would attract revenue and jobs back into the state. So it was heavily backed with a $75 Million dollars loan as a Hail Mary to move people out of state to RI for their job.
The game didn't break the $2 Million it needed to break even. So the state had to pay for all of the unemployment and Studio 38 filed for bankruptcy and defaulted on the loan repayment to the state.
I have a grudge against that game company.
