I've been thinking about making an indie game that is essentially Half Life 1 style first person linear action gameplay and graphics, but on a sword & sorcery adventure.

No RPG shit, no stats, no choices, outside of half life style interactivity as you embark on a linear journey through savage, ancient, sorcery filled lands.

Instead of your usual crowbar, pistols, SMGs, shotguns, explosives, etc. You have various medieval weapons and magic items like a longsword for core melee, a hammer for smashing armored foes, a longbow for sniping, a magic staff that fires magic missiles like a machine gun, and various secondary weapons that you can equip as a sidearm for quickly throwing daggers, a glaive, firebottles, etc.

You get the exploration aspect of half life but in a fantasy setting, you can do plenty of fun puzzles and platforming like half life, and then combat with a variety of monsters and enemies.

I think it would be fun, but niche. PC only, early 2000s retro graphics. Simple Conan style short story scope to the "plot". A good old classic linear FPS action adventure game. Do you think anyone would play it?

Simpler than might and magic: Dark Messah. More like Half life where you are switching between weapons all the time and using the right one for the right enemy. I've never seen anyone take that classic FPS combat approach and apply it to a more melee / fantasy setting (outside of heretic / hexen).

Yeah HL1's G man mystery completely captivated me as a kid. A fantasy setting can't have the same sense of worldly conspiracy as Deus Ex and Half Life, but hopefully I can replace it with some of the strange and mysterious lore and mysticism like a Conan short story.

When I think back to something like the time I spent play mvc2 or something like that it's like someone is tearing out my heart and stomping on it. It's not perfect (I don't like the twists, everything's brown, at least one ranged weapon would have been nice, and the city being in a big metal cylinder over a bottomless pit is lame), but the gameplay is solid, the aesthetic is good, and there's a nice variety of weapons (though there is some overlap). The people who have done the work to learn how to draw, write, and do the other creative work to make video games don't want to make games like that.
