Demo Day 64 is here, and you'd like to get something back from all your hard effort.
I will make a generous donation to your demo if you add a screen at the beginning that says "I'm a farty fart man with a big smelly butt that smells like farts". It must be unskippable and stay present and visible for at least 5 seconds.
Note that for any qualifying games I'll be waiting a week to make sure you don't just immediately replace it.
I don't want to list an exact amount, because a game where it really doesn't fit in, or going "the extra mile" (fart noises in your soundtrack, especially in a serious game, things like that) will be rewarded more heavily.
Life handed me some bounty with Bitcoin and GME, so I'm more than happy to "give a little back" ;)

Humiliate yourself for money.

>How do I sign up?
Just add what I said to your game, and post in the thread at some point: "I'm a farty fart man with a big smelly butt that smells like farts" with a link to your game. I have something that will be looking for exactly that phrase.
Add additional notes if you have any such as "I added a fart sound to my music" and how it can be heard for verification.

I remember gamers glazing the shit out of facebook for pricing the quest vr headset so low. The price was so low it drove all the other VR headset manufacturers out of business. Game developers were forced to target pitiful phone hardware because most people were using a quest or quest 2. Now VR is dead.
Gamers want cheaper and cheaper games but they're too stupid to realize that harms the industry.

Reality is that majority of people don't mind AI voices. It's like the least evil AI artistic thing and the world is used to Siri and TikTok and Youtube vids using them all the time. Nobody cares, at least not enough to stop your game from being successful. Liar's Bar came out last year and while there were some vocal minorities tweeting making a stink against some AI voice clips it used, it was still super successful with overly positive reviews.

On launch it seemed the game hung up but it was just uncompressing everything, maybe something saying "Loading..." would be helpful.
Cool song, seems like a Hotline Miami clone?
No indication of anything game just starts right away.
Esc opens the menus, kinda hard see against the background.
Game seems fairly polished, all the objects on the map respond to getting hit.
Kinda hard to see when you're getting hit, especially when there are many enemies, I guess the whole screen changes color depending on your health?
Thought I was getting killed by random explosions but it's actually one of the enemies suiciding on you.
Neat, the cursor indicates how much ammo each gun has.
Kinda hard but might just need to get used to.
Overall, the actual game is there and seems fun to repeat/try again when you die, it's just the rest of the game like UI, presentation, maybe a bit of story is missing.

>Mystery of the Malign

The whole presentation gives me an eerie feeling.
I appreciate that menus and UI are all custom made.
Seems fairly straightforward to understand what's going on.
Even with all the clues the puzzle doesn't seem to make much sense to me.
So the guy with the socks on the balcony is Rowlins, which is the 2nd floor on the right, yet the buzzers seem to indicate Rowlins is on the 1st floor right...
We know Shelly and Cherney live on the same floor.
Turns out the numbers are for door numbers not floors.
Somehow we got in...
Could we actually open the inventory when outside? That should have been a clue so we could learn about the journal tidbit.
The journal is well made and you can even add your own notes.
Overall, a well done mystery investigation game, can't really find any faults with it, seems really polished and in-depth, I can appreciate how much work it takes to create something like this, to come up with puzzles and break it all down, story, assets etc.

A scrabble roguelite?
All the menus are custom made, look nice enough.
The covers for all the classic books are charming.
The tutorial is straightforward but it should let you play first and lead you more, baby steps, maybe some word hints.
Only one song which gets repetitive.
Hard to come up with words with the letters given.
Overall, not much to say about this game, not my kind of thing. No bugs encountered, everything works fairly well. Would I want to play more? If it had a bit more energy and something to grip me, it's not readily apparent why I'm purchasing upgrades. I could see this being fun to play on a portable console like an NDS.

I personally try to do everything myself because it's an opportunity to learn and will pay off in the long run. If you take shortcuts now you'll take shortcuts in the future

I think it's particularly bad in a 3D game to be using character assets compared to background assets because the player isn't staring at background assets constantly, unlike the player.

I uploaded a demo of Guns and Nuns for anyone who wanna test the gravity mechanic, this is a list of the updates I made since last Demo Day:

- Added custom gravity system
- Updated Map with new visuals
- Added mouse sensitivity option
- Updated AI of enemies to work with the gravity
- Optimize the code to do the heavy calculations with multithreading (Unity Jobs System)
- Updated the golden deser eagles aka "Requiem" with a new 3D model
- Requiem now have explosives bullets when Angelica enters in Holy Time
- The shotgun aka "Lady Mary" now shoot pellets in a cone in front of the player
- Lady Mary increase the number of pellets when Angelica enters in Holy Time Mode, she also increase the firerate by 50%
- Fixed visual bugs related to the particle system for the blood.

There are other stuff I did like the jumping magic circles and the second map with skeleton pirates but those are not present in this demo.

A Wario Ware-like in the browser with a lock picking take.
A setting to adjust the music volume would be nice.
Can't tell if I'm doing the safe mini-game correctly or not.
It should have better feedback for when you pass/fail a mini-game, some kind of "yaaay" or "awww".
Always fail pic related because I never turn the noodle to the precise angle even though it looks correct at first.
I think with a bit more variety of games and easier ones to understand it could be more fun.
Overall, it's nice little game but can be expanded and worked on more.

Laws are already in place in the UK and are being looked into in the EU, Canada, Australia, United States

It's still unclear what most laws should be but in the UK, sites like Wikipedia have a comments section and thus have to verify users in case someone says something mean on wikipedia
I don't think it applies at the indie scale yet, mostly just big sites (like 4chan) but god only knows what the other countries will decide to do
right now the United States only requires that you have text to speech, font size options and other accessibility options if you're making an online game with chat

Game asks to connect to the internet right away, that's a "no", blocked.
Menus are rudimentary but everything seems to work.
There's a lot of information right away and things to select and adjust.
Menu music doesn't really seem to match the kind of vibe the rest of the game is going for, it could also use some art here and there.
In-game has a kind of retro feel, but all the assets seem to be a mix of different things and styles and epochs.
For these kinds of games there should be an option to switch the map side to left/right.
Sometimes the Witch King just sits there taking damage instead of attacking (still processing the move command?).
Overall, I think the game requires some time investment to get something out of it, it's not that fun right away which didn't grip me. If your selling point is the custom engine that allows for thousands of units then you should give that to me fairly early in the game, I want to control hundreds of units and fight hundreds of other units... but as is the spawn rate is so low that it becomes boring.
Pump up the juice and fun factor imo, go all out.

Tried out jargon after watching the ESL cat struggle and it's harder than it looks.

I like the visuals and music, the gameplay needs balancing. I think there's too much stuff going on in the item shop, games like this tend to let you 'pick one of three things' because too many choices become overwhelming for the player. Beyond the books I didn't use any of the runes or word tiles or anything, all of that stuff requires you to plan three to four steps in advance with unknown information when all you've got to work with is the tiles in your hand, so as the shop is open you have to be planning your word layout which completely kills any rush from spontaneously picking something and then if the tiles in your hand don't work then you have to plan which ones you're going to dump and then hope you roll the ones you need?? Speaking of which the cost for dumping is so high that why would you ever do it instead of just playing any stupid word you can?

I think trying to mix fast roguelite numbers go up gameplay with a very methodical game like scrabble doesn't work, you just end up ignoring the roguelite aspect and focus on the scrabble because the very rigid rules of scrabble is actually hard. Not sure what you could do to improve it except maybe change the rules to make word placement easier. Otherwise it's very easy to paint yourself into a corner like I did here.

I will probably play it again, but as a regular scrabble game.

Barebones game, still uncooked, MMORPG-like.
I should be able to move with WASD keys but I can't...
My cat girl got killed after the third rat enemy, restarted again.
Camera panning is annoying and always tend to move to the bottom which makes me click my character and open the inventory while walking.
Didn't understand that I could control both the catgirl and orc at the same time, I thought it was just a companion following me. Unusual.
Managing both inventories and characters at the same time could quickly get tiring.
Catgirl doesn't have pantsu under skirt but only void panties, disappointment.
Performance is not good, GPU full load and only getting like 90 FPS.
Did the quest to kill a skeleton and that was it.
Not much to say since it's barely a game but what's there seems to be a nice start, I like the map I can seem a sort of adventure feeling and want to explore.

I can't answer that question and you can't answer that question either, so why are you asking it so insistently?

We don't know how much it would've made otherwise. What I made clear is that hiring a voice actor is extremely cheap compared to the game's income.

Also, just because a game was slop once doesn't mean people can't come back to it in a future update or that it can't have a second chance. The idea of early access is you split your release into two releases, the early and final release. Early access games usually get less players but make up for it once they release fully.
No more messing around. No more procrastination.
Today’s the day I finally start making my game. I will be using Gamemaker.

just how many players do you think you'll have and how much will it cost per player?
a few years ago my cousin was making some online game and he paid like $6000 for servers for 3 months and he never got above 20 concurrent players. he was overconfident and he was trying to solve problems that didn't even exist.
if your server costs are high that ideally means you have a lot of players which is a good thing.

Main menu is simple but works well enough, I like the computer stuff.
Meager options menu, can't config anything.
Going straight for mission 1, fuck tutorials.
Really loud boom on mission start.
I like that almost everything is destructible.
Some SFX are way too loud compared to others (like grabbing knives).
Some slowdowns from time to time.
You should be able to throw objects with a lot of force which would impact on other objects and do a kind of combo of property damage.
Property damage UI should remind the player of much of it they need to clear the level.
Destroying things is fun on its own but it needs more objects, more juice, more variety, maybe some "ka ching" money sound or various other sounds depending on the object being wrecked.
Overall, it's has the makings of something that could be fun but it's still lacking features and content at the moment so it's not that interesting. It needs a bit of overarching story (for background of a robot going rogue), secrets to find, maybe some enemies chasing you or even a boss-type enemy, it needs more explosions and fire, make it total chaos, people screaming.
>>538139110

I want VR to be as cool as it is in my head. I remember trying some Blizzard demo on Google cardboard in like 2013/14 where you just fly around on a griffin, and thinking it was amazing.
I think some lightweight AR glasses could eventually take off as a way for people to play tabletop remotely. But full VR is just not interesting. Nobody’s done anything interesting with it. Aside from beat saber there’s nothing that isn’t better to just do in real life if you’re going to have the hassle of being upright anyway.

Around 100 games release on Steam alone EACH DAY.
About 700 games in the week around your release.
AAA release? Successful release AAA or indie, in your genre? BOOM you are done.
Also, not only are you competing with other new releases, but the entire backlog of games on every system a player owns. :)

Take all the "indie success stories" you can think of in the past 10 years and divide it by the number of devs in that time who have tried (again, 100 games a day, 3000 a month) and there's your historical likelihood of "making it."

Steam cut, higher self-employment taxes, no benefits, no retirement, AND to top it all off: Your sales diminish over time, so even if you hit this "mediocrity lottery" you'll have to do it all over again in a couple years.

Straight away I like the old school pixelart and feel.
For the options menu I couldn't figure out how to adjust the volumes and once you enter the audio options you cant seem to leave unless you alt+f4, maybe it's not working?
Starting a game there's no indication on how to proceed, no story, you have to press Esc to proceed.
There is a mouse cursor but it doesn't seem to be used for anything.
Unconventional control scheme.
No audio for anything in the slice, no background music while in-game.
The animations seem good enough but it needs something more to catch the player, some intrigue, lead them in, make them care.
I like that the stats have so much influence on what you can or cannot do.
Overall, this is a game not made for this age, it needs more work to make the player care, you need patience to read the dialogues and explore the world and characters.

Not sure if you're new to this website or what, but one thing that all demoralization posts share regardless of their subject matter is that they always try to use the most extreme metrics possible to dissuade others from trying. It doesn't matter if said metrics are actually true, all they care about is posting something that looks so extreme that it makes other people scared to try. You see this with incel shit all the time.
>bro look at this engagement bait twitter post where a woman said she only wants to date men above 6'

The fact that you're able to see through the bullshit and are willing to provide a counterargument is a good thing. That likely means you have the intelligence to make something worthwhile. >The Frydarian Tale

Finally we reach the memester's game, straight away this looks like something released in early 98 on PC. It has its charm.
Menus are simple enough, the basic stuff.
Extras has a link to a whole ass website with lots of lore and even a Tomb Raider Manor-type level to explore.
Cool ass rhyming intro and nice music, fairly simple setup.
Toggling into combat mode is unusual.
Let's just say the voices are... peculiar, enemies burn up and just go "wohoo".
Game doesn't tell you to proceed or if you can skip dialogues and cinematics, also no indication of controls.
In-game there's no way to access the options menu.
What's the goal of the game really? Just kill mobs and explore? No indication.
Camera suffers when it's against a wall making you lose track of where you're looking.
Surprisingly lots of cinematics.
Overall, it has an interesting atmosphere and visual, but it's also kinda (man)childish. Everything seems to work well enough, no real bugs but the game would probably benefit from a bit more polish, more work in the levels to add more life, places to explore or interesting things to look at.

Sweet. Thanks for taking a look at my game. If you are wondering why the Bulldogs' voices are so peculiar, it's just a case of me upholding a legacy. My first "game", Joey 3D, was built in a really basic engine called AgentCubes that features that sound in its internal catalog; as a matter of fact, most of the sounds featured in The Frydarian Tale originated from AgentCubes as sort of a homage to my first game, since both feature Joseph Fygoon as the player character. Anyway, when I was little, I got a kick out of that sound for just how absurd it was, and I added it in for when Fygoon kicked the enemy Bulldogs out of the area.
For those curious, I found the source while idly watching some Looney Tunes. Let it be known that the common Bulldogs are all "voiced" by Mel Blanc playing Bugs Bunny:
https://youtu.be/-JGQCsOT72g?si=S-tTH_U-arpr_uKV
The game can be boiled down to this: go from point A to point B and kill everything in sight. How you get from point A to point B is not so simple, as, invariably, your enemies are privy to your adventure and have put up roadblocks to impede your progress, be it extinguished power lamps, deactivated lock crystals, or simply stealing the power source of the magic gondola you need to reach the ultimate goal.
I didn't know I needed to add in a prompt telling people to skip cutscenes - then again I put so much damn time and…more time that I would much rather you all have a watch, especially since they convey important information concerning the story or how to progress in the game. I plan on adding in the ability to talk to Minister Shen (the not-Chinese Dragon because the Frydarians don't know what a "China" is) in the explorable Fortress Fygoon, but I didn't have the time to implement it at the moment; however, it should be simple as he just looks at your current progress and gives vague advice that can best be described as "fortune cookie nonsense".
Thought I'd add that there are secret caves too.

What software have you used that ever censored what you can make with it? Does Microsoft Word not let you type out "nigger"? Name one piece of software intended for creation that censors you. Maybe Roblox or UEFN but that's because it's a closed system for children.

Because never in the history of software before the AI spring has an offline creative software been β€œcensored”.
It’s entirely a byproduct of the schizophrenic anthropomorphization of language models, and only very young zoomers or even alphas would think an offline creative software might have similar restrictions.

This is probably my favorite genre of all time, but I just don't want to play this game
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2941710/Project_Silverfish/

It looks so lazy, I actually did play the demo some time ago so I am not just dismissing it because of muh graphics. But I just do not understand why indie devs keep going with this asset instead of just making bad environments and textures, I am serious, bad ones would be better than whatever this is.
But admittedly I don't have a strong argument here, technically this is bad, so why is it not fine with me? That I don't know. I wonder if there is more to it
I think that trying to make a game that's carried strictly by its gameplay is an indie trap. It can be done, but the vast majority of games like this won't be fun. Take the story pill and spread out your gameplay over a format that at least allows for a little side exploration and a little npc interaction.
>>538146880
>SHRIMP GAME

Well done menus, the important stuff can be configured.
Game has decent music, the drum&bass like while in the levels gives it both a fresh and relaxing feeling.
The lack of timer pressure also adds to that.
The tutorial is well made, explains everything, gives a bit of story and eases the player in.
Sometimes it's annoying to find your way back to where you were if you die, the direction arrow seems like it's 3D but it's actually 2D making it rather confusing in a game with 3 cardinal directions.
I found myself wanting to play and explore a bit more than the 15 mins, did the big shrimp boss to which I died, seems like too much of a damage sponge.
It's a shame it only saves if you complete the level, if you die you have to re-do the objectives again to fight the boss.
Performance seems good, some stuttering while loading levels.
My lil shrimp often got stuck in terrain while navigating.
It's not clear what happens if you die, but I noticed I lost my upgrades.
Overall, a nice little shooting game with boss enemies, relaxing, right amount of challenge, didn't run into any major bugs. It flows well enough.

>>538154768
It's because the dev compromised the integrity of the game with assets. Lots of players don't recognize it as an asset flip so it doesn't bother them, but once you see it, it's hard to appreciate the game. I used to love playing those free faux-"psx" style horror games on itch.io until i realized 90% of them used assets for everything. They were using assets for extremely primitive graphics you could learn to make in blender after like 2 hours of learning.

>Maid Cafe Coop

Basic start up menu, options are not available in the start menu.
I saved a game but could not load it again.
No option to quit the game while in-game you have to Alt+F4.
The maid creator is well done and straightforward with enough options for everyone, wish it let you rotate without the slider.
In-game is surprisingly involved and everything that's there works well enough.
After a bit of fumbling it's easy enough to understand what you need to do.
The podium singing and moe moe kyun to please the customers is a really nice touch.
After you've done all that though what happens? What's the goal? Can you earn stuff?
Overall, I found myself playing more than the 15 mins but it's clear this game is made to be enjoyed in coop, possibly even while streaming - it's that type of game. There could be a success hit in here with a bit more fleshing out, this game will definitely do well in the streamer/friendslop category.
People forget that a good atmosphere/story/music is what really creates success nowadays.

>Skipping enemies is good because Dark Souls

>>538159852
I know you're being facetious but uploading your server software seems a lot cheaper than paying 6 million dollars. Why would a company not want to save money in favor of being able to dictate their servers the way they want? They have to have some monetary reason for doing this or else they're just retarded.

>Mel, the caramel dog

Barebones start menu, no options.
Still uncooked.
A basic platformer collect-a-thon with hard to reach places that requires precision platforming.
The movement and platforming feel is well done mechanically, it's not readily apparent but after a bit of experimenting you can actually hold onto the edge indefinitely and also dash with mouse1.
Repetitive, not much to do or see at the moment but the basic gameplay is there.
I got stuck in this corner and couldn't get out, that's also when I quit.
At certain angles some platforms blend in with the rest of the environment, making them invisible.
Overall, it's decent but still really barebones, will require more fleshing out of content.

i liked hypercoven a lot. LIMIT being so low and nontrivial to produce really sucks. And iirc not every start has the limit building. Maybe limit can scale with the number of spawners you make. I end up making enough spawners to fill my cap in one cycle. Witch king is good in combat but has almost no regen so it doesnt really feel like I can use him for anything else beside building outside of emergencies.
i also cried a bit when i realized artifacts only have 100 charges when im making 50 skeletons / minute i really didnt feel like I was getting anywhere for killing like 7 invasion gates.
building the range damage/limit buildings is impossible later when flow of enemies is constant.
I did end up playing this game the most out of all the games I tried yesterday. the clashing sprites made me smile and laugh. even if theyre temp i dont mind it.
It ended up being a fun silly game that I enjoyed a lot. I play a lot of wc3 TD and it reminded me a lot of a few.

letting the player play at their own pace is good, not setting an arbitrary and repetitive win condition the player has to check constantly is good.

what's needed isn't to close all the doors like isaac but to come up with a reason the player doesn't want to rush through everything and enemies that punish the player for charging without looking.

espeically if enemies are dangerous to re-encounter and you might pass by a room multiple times, you should be thinking about clearing it...
it's actually a pretty hard game design challenge.

>ROLLING BALL GAME DX: Director's Cut

Right away my first thought is "why is it called Director's Cut, was there another version previously?" If this is the director's cut then it needs to be top notch otherwise remove that from the title.
Excellent music, repetitive but not annoying.
Stylish menus, options are barebones and they cannot be access while in-game.
Two things I dislike: the grey colored backgrounds and the button hovering sound.
Too many levels and worlds are accessible right away, you should limit them and guide the player.
The dialogue system seems fine, there is however no indication of the controls anywhere I had to spam buttons to find out you can pan the camera with Q and E.
For the gameplay I feel conflicted between wanting to go fast and wanting to collect everything while also being pressured to go slow because otherwise you fall easily.
I don't know how hard it's meant to be or if it's meant to be played slowly (but there is a timer?).
The ball seems a bit too floaty and gets a bit too much acceleration at times, while others it really struggles to up inclinations which makes you backtrack to gain momentum and takes you out of the "flow".
Enemies seem rather hard to kick out of the platforms and follow you too hard, they should drop out more easily if they're at the edge and bump off harder against you.
Overall, a nice little SMB-like with a style reminiscent of old SEGA games but it needs the edges trimmed, it needs to flow better to not be so annoying.

>Galduen of the void

Still not sure what a "galduen" is, a garden, a planet?
I like the hand-made vector designs and menus.
Options have the most important settings.
Ran into a bug into the tutorial where it got stuck in the ship & production tutorial and wouldn't let me save.
There is quite a bit of ESL "englando" and turn of phrases.
It's not readily apparent what must be done once you launch into a game.
Game runs well, the graphics are nice.
If Research and Mission control buttons are so important they shouldn't be up there and so small, give them more visibility.
Since you primarily play with the mouse you should also be able to pan around with the middle mouse button instead of WASD.
I really could not figure out to play this game, clicked all the buttons, nothing does anything, passing the time with SHIFT only adds currency, can't research engine, can't build ship, what are you supposed to do?
Overall, it has a interesting aesthetic and world building, good music but it's got terrible on-boarding and explaining of how you're supposed to play, ain't nobody want to be forced to look at tutorials of their own, they should be forced while the game is being played - just my opinion.
How do I bribe my way into the inner circle?

Some stuttering while loading probably a Godon't issue.
Basic menus but everything is there.
No muzek.
Shooting feels nice with good feedback which is the most important, traversal of the map also isn't too annoying which is good but they're rather empty and large.
Generic aesthetics and assets but not displeasing, could do with more weird stuff.
Difficulty seems fairly balanced but there should be more healing items, fighting hordes of enemies or the boss with just 3 health is too punishing.
I liked the repairing and piloting of the boat mechanic, rather engaging.
Overall I had an enjoyable time, it still needs work of course. I think the dev should really to lean into the weird creatures and textures like those four legged critters with the mouth, that could really make it an awesome little game.

>Right away my first thought is "why is it called Director's Cut, was there another version previously?"
Yes, there is! It was my very first game project, simply titled ROLLING BALL GAME. Well basically it was more of a learning project tech demo kinda thing than an actual polished game. RBGDX was conceptualized as some sort of remaster/improved version. The thought process being, what would I do with it now that I'm better at making games? And also add some things I originally intended but wasn't skilled enough to make before. Well eventually, it turned into its own thing and now it's a completely different game, I just decided to keep the title as an homage.

Right now they're listed on the main itch page, but I do intend to include the controls somewhere in the game, probably the extras menu.
>I don't know how hard it's meant to be or if it's meant to be played slowly
It's supposed to be hard in the later parts but I keep having to make new level 1s to make the beginning easier. Starting slow is fine, going fast through a level is supposed to be for when you're good at the game/know what your doing. The puzzle is the movement itself, the player has to figure out efficient ways to gain speed on their own.
>Enemies seem rather hard to kick out of the platforms
The way it works is that if you hit them at higher speeds, you knock them back further, be sure to use your special moves to help.
>Overall, a nice little SMB-like with a style reminiscent of old SEGA games but it needs the edges trimmed, it needs to flow better to not be so annoying.

>WASTELAND BITES

Nice lofi aesthetic, I enjoy the old-timey radio songs with the desert and weird monsters backdrop.
Surprising how many different songs there are.
Menu background is cool with the flying saucer, options have what's needed.
During the tutorial the whole text should be visible, no scrollbar.
Is there some indication that Killer Korn is coming beforehand? Keep dying to that guy but it's probably because I'm so slow.
Some of the ingredients look a bit too similar like the onions and mushrooms which always make you second guess yourself and lose time, they should probably be on different ends of the shelf.
Leaving the game and starting again makes you go through the tutorial again.
I couldn't get past day 2 without dying so I'm not sure what the payout for all of this hard work will be. Demo limitation?
Overall, great presentation, music and gameplay loop but it might be a too rigid and strict to make it really fun.

Been experimenting with some background visuals in my game's Wizard Dance mode. In this level, he's learning how to cast the "Laughing Spell", so as your combo increases, you start seeing laughing emojis in the background (they appear each time you successfully hit a note). If it gets high enough, you'll see a large string of text that shows the laughing onomatopoeia in various languages, along with a laughing emoji. If you miss a note and your combo resets, they all disappear.
>>538180782
At their base Ace Attorney games are matching puzzles, but to solve them you have to engage with the story and use human reasoning. The story for fill-in-the-blank games is completely irrelevant.

Why don’t gamedevs ever do podcast interviews? It seems like there should be a lot of audience overlap, but I never see them on anywhere.
>>538181365
podcasts are for losers
>>538181365
The skillset for being a good podcaster and being a good gamedev have very little overlap. There's a reason why most successful indie devs are antisocial.
>>538181013
Sorry, I should have known better.
>TWO monkeyball games?
>>538181365
going to a podcast isn't going to sell your game so the only "devs" going to those are going to be course seller youtubers that everyone is already tired of seeing
>>538181365
Most game devs are asocial dorks who can’t keep a conversation going for more than a couple minutes, let alone for an hour long podcast episode.
There’s also not that much to talk about unless you’re hugely successful and have interesting experiences to share, like going to awards shows or meeting fans. I doubt the guy who made a game in his bedroom by himself and got 2000 reviews has much to share that people want to hear.
>>538178512
>Silicon Scars (Alpha)

No intro or anything.
The loading screen says "Loading complete…" but doesn’t continue automatically, so you might end up staring at it without realizing you need to press a button.
Options have the needed settings, menu buttons could use some work.
Some kinda DOOM-like?
Tutorial is too basic, I think it could be scrapped and made in game with clues everyone understands DOOM right away.
The pistol reloading steaming is way too loud and annoying.
Lacks sounds for most things, could probably use a bit of music and footstep sound.
The tab map should be visible in full and allow you to pan around, it should also better indicate (or hide in the fog) the places you need to go or discover.
Maybe a Diablo-like map overlay would be nice since there's so many corridors.
Shield enemies are annoying and since shooting at their feet does a blood splat it's not readily understood that you're doing no damage.
Kiting them and shooting them in the back kills them fast.
No feedback when you take damage.
Overall, it's still undercooked and clearly early alpha stages, what's there is solid but repetitive, the assets look fine, the shooting feels decent (except for the pistol). Not much else to say.
>>538178028
Interesting. Were you using the Leviathan book by chance? That's the one that gives points for letters on the board. Also yeah there's kind of a trade off to using bigger explosives, it's risky to remove words you need from the board but that's by design. Thanks for playing it more!

>>538180058
>How do you measure "great"?
Originality
Good animation
Render depth
Overall competency
Consistency
Memorable characters

Arksync is quite original for a pixel game but there are other highly rendered pixel games out there so it doesn't stand out a lot.
The animations I saw in the trailer were a bit lacking.
The rendering is nice.
It looks pretty competent.
Arksync is a little inconsistent.
There don't appear to be any characters that'd leave a lasting impression on the store page. The robot is pretty much just a robot.

So, it's lacking a distinct original style and animation. Animation style also counts towards originality and it's important for a game. There being no waifus or just characters the player can relate to means it can't pick up a cringe ass fanbase ...
This isn't required for a successful game but it is required for a game to succeed on art alone.

Straightforward menu, all needed options are present.
Music seems a bit muted.
Despite trying to put on a scary atmosphere, I didn't really feel it.
Maybe some music, or scary sounds to break things up?
First time I died in the second level to a zombie (?) while trying to explore the room and had to start over.
Second time, I failed at golfing in second level again and that's when I quit.
Having to go through the tutorial every time sucks.
The golfing part is the fun part yet it's also tedious/slow because of the shotgun.
Everything seems to work well, no bugs found.
Is there some payout, some secret at the end?
Maybe it should have a free for all/arcade mode.

I was using books that gave multipliers for horizontal and vertical words and one that gives points for letters on the edge and one that gives points for specific letters, they all got deactivated because I blew up an edge column. Why did I blow up an edge column? Because if I blew up a middle column then there's no way I could fit new words in their place again with the rigid rules of scrabble and the random mess of letters it would leave behind.

The balance of the items seem off to me, like the uncommon or rare items are nearly useless or only work if you do really detrimental things like waste turns discarding while the common ones give big consistent multipliers. And the runes have a tiny tiny effect while costing almost the same as books and more than letters which seem more useful. But I didn't even want to buy letters because then I have to discard from my hand and then how do you know which ones to discard, it becomes a problem of too much choice again. Really the best way to play seems to be to not engage with any of the mechanics because either the effects are too detrimental or you get overloaded trying to analyze all possible outcomes.

If say your hand wasn't limited and every time you bought a letter your hand temporarily grew by +1 then it would make way more sense. Also if runes went into a stack on the side that you could play at anytime instead of trying to plan them out 5 turns in advance which never works out because of the limited pool of letters you have to work with then I would see a case for using them. I think the most important change you could make though is make the board unlimited, it just grows in any direction as you play. Make the hand unlimited, make the board unlimited and focus the items on enhancing the flow and pace of the game so it becomes a real roguelite.

>>538189074
Yes, oversaturation is definitely real. I realize the average age of this general these days is around 16, but there used to be a time when a new indie game getting onto Steam was a relatively rare occurrence. The application process was much more difficult back then, nothing was guaranteed. You could spend years on a game and still get denied by Steam and the Xbox store if they thought it wasn’t high quality enough for their platform.
I definitely don’t think Steam should go back to those days, but I do wish they’d have stuck with the Greenlight concept and evolved it over time rather than abandoning it completely. Obviously Greenlight had its issues, mainly botting, but at least it created enough of a filter that it caught some of the slop before it could make its way onto the Steam store. If your game got onto Steam through Greenlight organically then it meant there was genuine interest in it.

Unfortunately Valve realized it was much more profitable to let people pay to put whatever slop they wanted to up on Steam rather than maintaining a standard of quality. They’re really the ones to blame for all of this. I genuinely wouldn’t mind them increasing the downpayment for a Steam page to $1,000 and returning the money after 100 purchases. Add some actual risk back to game dev and stop this free for all third worlder slopfest.

Has controller support which is a must have for these games.
The game hasn't changed much compared to last DD.
Kinda repetitive at moment, not sure where the dev is going with it. It needs more variety in environments or shooting mechanics with upgrades/bombs imo.
I think the ship blends a bit too much with the environment.
Decently challenging but I'm no expert at bullet hells, especially with one hit death, without bombs to clear I had to restart one particular level a bunch of times.
Explosions and shootan sound good.
Overall, the basics are there for a good game but it's still barebones to be really fun and engaging.

This argument is pure demoralization cope and makes no sense if you think about it for more than a few seconds. Virtually every market on earth is competing with previously produced products. How are car manufacturers able to keep producing new cars every year when there are perfectly functional cars in every dealer’s lot? How is Hollywood able to keep producing new movies when there a millions of movies that already exist? How do new bands keep finding success in genres where there are already thousands and thousands of songs? People like trying new things and are willing to pay money for them, that’s the simple reality of it.

Why? How many pesos does it take to make a dollar? The only thing that comes out of selling to thirdies is key sites reselling your game if it becomes popular for pennies. You couldn't even recover the steam fee if you added up all third world sales worldwide. If thirdies actually want your game then they'll pirate it.

The only reason you're arguing this is because you are actually a thirdie trying to remove your competition from the sloprush.

Not an easy one to review, it would require a lot of reading to understand what's going on and get into.
This game has David Bowie and Kanye West and Ritsu from K-On!?
After reading the PDF manual it seems to be a digital TTRPG to be played by multiple people.
A lot of effort as gone into this, it leaves with me an uneasy and sad feeling in my stomach that I can't appreciate the game.
I just wish you could maximize the window at least, or increase the font size.
Overall, I will refrain from further critique, this looks like a passion project to be enjoyed by friends.

That isn't how it works retards. Steam promotes 400 games a year period. Not 400 games of X tag, 400 games. You're competing with AAA games, 2d games, and hentai slop whether your game is one of those or not.

Game saturation isn't real because I can look at almost any game genre and see that there's plenty of improvement to be done. The future was moving toward PCVR with tiny goggles connected wirelessly to your PC. Imagine a headset the size of the bigscreen beyond but with the wireless capability of the wireless vive headsets, they were nice because you have a battery pack strapped to your back or your belt not your fucking eyes.
Facebook killed any chance of that happening and mobile VR is the worst of both worlds. You get a fuckhuge heavy battery strapped to your face and shitty phone hardware.

I pray a mentally ill girl pushes you into oncoming traffic.
I think one of the major negative things impacting my game development right now is I keep thinking about things I think would improve a certain piece of content, and so I do it.
It doesn't feel like scope creep because it usually is a one-off thing that doesn't take long, but it increases the standard of content and makes me go back and retroactively add stuff to old content and forces me to add even more to new content.
Damnit! DAMNIT!

Cool looking menu, options are lacking and only have volume setting.
First impressions, woah this early, early Ultima-like.
I do like the idea.
Was expecting at least a bit of background music.
Combat is basic, it's hard to read the dialogue text wish you could resize the window.
It wants me to use the mouse to drag and drop items while the rest of the game only uses the keyboard.
Overall, it needs a bit more intro and story but could be rather engaging if properly fleshed out. Right now it's too basic and barebones that's all I can say really.

>This argument is pure demoralization cope and makes no sense if you think about
it for more than a few seconds.
It makes perfect sense when you think about it for more than a few seconds, games last forever, have no reproduction cost and usually are culturally isolated enough to make them viable for enjoyment no matter which time period they're in
>Virtually every market on earth is competing with previously produced products
No they're not because by definition products and services are consumed.
>How are clothing companies able to sell clothes when stores are already full of perfectly good clothing?
They remove the old clothing from the stores and shred them when new designs come out. There isn't a 2000 year backlog of clothes to buy like with videogames because clothes wear out.
>How are car manufacturers able to keep producing new cars every year when there are perfectly functional cars in every dealer’s lot?
The dealers lot has a month of inventory at most, there isn't a 120 year backlog of cars for you to buy because cars wear out after 10 years.
>How is Hollywood able to keep producing new movies when there a millions of movies that already exist?
Movies are strongly tied to cultural relevance and are in theaters for a limited time. The experience you get watching them at a theater is completely different from watching them at home and that's where the jews make their money. I haven't watched a new movie in a decade btw, I just go back to what I know because I'm no longer culturally relevant. They spend a lot of money on brainwashing the next generation of customers because fresh customers is how they keep the backlog from dragging them down.

>>538196410
>How do new bands keep finding success in genres where there are already thousands and thousands of songs? People like trying new things and are willing to pay money for them, that’s the simple reality of it
Cultural relevance + new customers. You can't really compare short, passive repetitive experiences like music to long format deep engagement media like video games.

You CAN chase the new customer in games, but that means you're going to be making slop, not the game you want to make.

Very slick menus.
Options have everything we need and can be accessed in-game.
Controller works out the gate but I prefer the keyboard for some reason.
I like the color palette option so you can play it your way.
Everything flows really well and is responsive.
The game eases the player into every mechanic, good way to make a tutorial.
Music is really good but repetitive since it's always the same songs.
The gate opening requires a bit of getting used to, you always want to shoot in the other direction... why this happens I do not understand.
Overall, this is a fantastic game that is polished enough to release and should do really well in stores. Pitfalls are lack of content (depending on price sold) and repetitiveness of it all, good in short bursts. Maybe if the dev can come up with more game modes? Maybe an infinite runner or Sonic-like levels? Some type of mini-game? Good game.

Last game review for today.

>Aculto

Cool start menu background.
All the buttons work but have zero visual feedback or sound for hovering.
In-game there's only background music, I can feel some Jeremy Soule vibes... everything else has no SFX.
Really not a fan of moving with the mouse but it gets the job done.
No explicit goals, game just lets you go wherever in a vast map.
I took an airship to a whole ass new town, wow this game is big.
I alt-tabbed for a few seconds and my character starting cutting trees and mining stone on its own lol, is this because I enabled all the goals?
I think the game needs a bit of direction and overarching story but that's surely coming.

Sorry. Enhanced Input System. I'm just utterly fucking confused. I'm trying to figure out how to translate something from the pre-EIS to the post-EIS system but nothing matches up and because I'm new to this I don't actually know what's going on. Functionally it feels like Unreal went from one of the most approachable and well-documented engines to one of the most confusing and least-properly-documented. Because everything runs afoul of how Epic wants people using the engine now. It feels like they junked everything, and I'm left starting into the abyss.

The new input system is bloated dogshit. Anyone saying otherwise is coping. Its good for like 5% of games and I think its nice to have AS AN OPTION but pushing it as the default is yet another retarded and out of touch decision from Epic.
We went from a simple JSON file to this insane mess of blueprints just to handle inputs. Getting them set up in C++ is such a waste of time too.
>>538211126
Yeah the third and first person samples now use the Enhanced Input System.
Basically it's now broken up into:
1) Input mapping context
2) Input actions

Input mapping context basically tell the game what Input Actions are in use at that time. Input actions are the actual implementation in your game and can have different properties like Pulsate (fires every X seconds), down (only eveyr frame when down), etc. You set the current context and it tells the game what actions can fire. Multiple contexts can exist and depending on their priority they can override eachother.

Pic related is from the first person shooter sample in UE5.5
>>538210539
i look like this
>>538211878
The input mapping context is actually missing from the samples in 5.6. I've had to manually add it every time.
>>538211817
You can still assign inputs the old way or even go your own way by just using raw input directly. I don't see the problem.
>>538211817
all I know is that fortnite started eating inputs and feeling terrible a while ago so I assume it's the new system
I have a solution for the Unreal guy. Use Unreal 4. The best version of Unreal ever made. Simple as.
>>538211817
It's definitely more complex but I think the input context system is way better for most games. Just having an input priority in UE4 was kind of shit.
I have a lot of issues with UE5 but the input system isn't one of them.
Gonna be honest. I may just throw the UE5 Youtube tutorials in the dumpster for a bit and just get the AI to tell me how to do this shit.
I may just say fuck it and become the AI's implementation bitch until I have a grasp of what I'm actually doing, just to make some semblance of progress.

Something I liked from devil dagger where the swarm enemies, I will try making something like that.
