>Who is /fat/ for?
For dieting ducks working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

How do I encourage my fat friend to walk. He's always been really fat and now it's getting worse. I walk every day, as do several of our mutual friends, sometimes together other times not. Fat friend is prideful and self concious and I fully understand not wanting everyone to see you addressing your weight, really betrays an idgaf mindset.
He talks about getting a treadmil or a dog, because walking a dog is a reasonable excuse to be out on a walk, but this dude is not responsible enough for a dog and the treadmil is an excuse and will never get used.
Again, I fully understand his pride and stubbornness, I feel the same way about most things. Most of my inspirations are really cornball shit like hardcore bands and outlaw biker books and I don't know how to sell that to someone else

get him to do it in the group first of all, and try to use the buddy system with him if it's convenient for you. if you can help him beat anxiety by accompanying him and allow him to hold himself accountable by having him tell you he's gonna work on it, that's a lot of the battle right there. but he's clearly afraid to exercise at all, let alone to exercise for any reason that appears to be specifically about health

>How do I encourage my fat friend
You really can't. It has to come from them, if they don't want to change and take the first steps themselves they wont change their ways. And nothing you say or do will persuade them to. Best you can do is inspire them, I've seen lots of people attempt to lose weight because of me, and I encourage them when I can.

Creatine day 7

Anonymous No.76470220 [Report] >>76470365

it depends. breaking an addiction requires a competing interest. breaking through the anxiety of getting started often requires lowering the barrier (through graduated exposure, for example). if the barrier is a failure of executive function, then lowering the barrier can mean being an accountability buddy. you indeed cannot make someone do anything they don't want to do, but if they genuinely want to do it and can't get over the mental barriers, there are things you can do to get them started and even give them enough momentum to keep moving on their own.

almost none of us learned to ride a bike without training wheels or an adult's help. learning alone by getting on a normal bike and falling and hurting oneself over and over is possible, but it's needlessly difficult and might put someone off completely.

the water retention doesn't end, that's the point of creatine supplementation. it all sits in your muscles anyways so you've more or less improved your body composition over the past week.

This past 2 weeks I have dropped all the goyslop from my diet and have been eating fresh meat, fresh vegetables and rice for every meal, my energy levels have dumped of a cliff and it feels like its getting worse.
How long is this supposed to last? I thought eating better food was supposed to make us feel better.
This morning I had some oatmeal with some slice banana, felt like napping all afternoon. About an hour ago I had 3 chicken breasts with some roasted sweet potatoes and rice, had it with some zero fat yogurt and mustard sauce on top, tasted great but again I feel like I'm about to collapse and sleep for 10 hours.

But what it did for me was to help me get insane energy from carbs, it really kickstarted my metabolism
I used to be like that as well pre-diabetic and getting tired after every meal, then I tried the sugar diet which is basically just fruits with sugar all day for a few days
That shit pumped me up like crazy but I didn't want to miss out on protein so I went back to a /fit/ type of diet after (rice + chicken and veggies)

I know this sounds like I'm trolling, but I swear I'm not, I'm 100% serious.

I've been on my diet for 4 months, and it's working very well so far(40kg down). I'm not having cheat days because they're cringe and "you only cheat yourself" kinda thing, I don't want to slow down my weight loss. But after 4 months, I'm starting to falter a little, and I'm craving really bad something like pizza, lasagna or something that tastes like that. I know I have enough willpower to just ignore my cravings and power through it, so it's no biggie, but it's starting to get to a point that I'm salivating at pictures of food.

So, the question is, how dangerous would it be to give yourself casual bulimia? Again, I swear I'm not trolling. I'm also not that retarded, I wouldn't puke food everyday, at most maybe once every two months if the cravings get really bad and I want to have a cheat day but I don't want to deal with the excess calories. I know pizza would make me happy a bit. Is it risky to do it even once, or do you only get really bad mental-disorder level bulimia if you do it every day? Has anyone here experimented with that? It sounds like the biggest cheat, and if your cheat days aren't often, is the risk of getting bulimia that high, even if you 100% trust yourself to do it extremely sparingly?

>you don't feel as satisfied
The goal is not to feel satisfied, to just end my craving for pizza without the excess calories. Like if there was a 0 calorie pizza I would eat it. I know it sounds crazy to some people that just view food as fuel, but I used to enjoy eating food, even if it wasn't satiating. That's how I got fat so now I learned to avoid it though xc

As an alternative I was also considering buying Orlistat/Xenical specifically for this. I have not been eating anything fatty in my diet so I saw no point, but if I end up eating pizza, since it's mostly cheese it would probably help a bit if I decide not to throw up. But most likely I'll just power through it, in like 15 days I probably won't crave that shit anymore

I'm trying to go for a really really big deficit, I'm eating like 600 calories a day. A decent sized pizza is what, 3000 calories? You can't CICO your way out of it. Sure, you can cope and say "oh, your TDEE is like 2300, so just eat 2/3 pizza and you won't gain weight", yeah, but you will not lose the 0.3~ grams that you would have lost, and that's basically the same as gaining weight in the long term.

Maybe I can have a slice, at most two, but then I would just hate myself and want to jump off a bridge, probably wouldn't be enough to end my cravings and as a bonus I would feel hungry and have a huge migraine for the rest of the day. But if I eat pizza, puke, then eat my chicken broccoli, I'll keep it 600 calories and I believe it's probably more than good enough to end cravings if I eat a whole pizza.

And yes, I often did chew and spit and proper vomiting from time to time when I was a healthy weight, now I’m back here in /fat/ aren’t I? You have to fix your relationship with food. 40 kg in 4 months- no shit you’re having cravings! A few potential options:

-make something healthier/lighter that would satisfy those cravings, like a lavash pizza or lasagna with zucchini/eggplant strips instead of pasta (safest option)
-go get a single slice of pizza and eat it in a restaurant/in public
-ideal option: go out with some friends and share a pizza (hard if you have a fucked up relationship with food)

Do NOT start buying junk food and sneaking it home to eat in secret/private, whether you puke it up or not. Same concept as alcoholism - you will only slide deeper into that hole.

Honestly, because I'm too fat and doing it in an "enjoyable manner" is too slow, I don't want this to take 2 or 3 years, I want it to take 1 year and I'm okay with sacrificing a little bit of enjoyment and health for a significantly faster weight loss. If I was just a bit overweight and started at say 90kg then whatever, I could go slow, but I'm morbidly obese, I started at 165kg 4 months ago, and I'm 123kg right now, still morbidly obese. If I was just chilling with a 1000 calorie deficit like everybody tells you to I would be at like 142kg right now. I'm addicted seeing the number on the scale go down every day and every day that wake up, take a piss and I see my scale stagnate or go up it makes me sad, instantly ruins my day and makes me jump off a bridge, even if I always know that I didn't at all break my diet and it's just water, it still makes me feel like shit. I want to be 100kg by the end of the year and 70kg by April. I don't want to be a fatty in my next birthday, I want to enjoy cake(and not puke it). So I decided to do it in a "non enjoyable way" and then once I hit my goal weight I'll just go to a nutritionist, do a calorimetry exam or something to figure out my exact TDEE and just switch to eating at maintenance. Answers your question?

>you will reach your goal weight and then regain it this way
You underestimate how much gaining weight makes me want to kill myself. The only reason I gained weight was because I had completely given up and was planning to die at 30, so I just did not care at all and ate whatever in my 20s, I didn't even know what a calorie was before I started this, my self esteem was so low that I didn't give a fuck if I looked like a disgusting landwhale or not since it wouldn't make a difference. But now if I see a 3 day plateau I immediately start freaking out, fasting and doubling cardio.

I genuinely don't know how people that are trying to lose/maintain weight can gain 10kg+, hell, even 5kg+. You have to actively stop trying.

I could probably not do this diet uninterrupted for 2 years, but I'm so close to the 100kg line now, I can easily do it for a few more months, then just switch to maintenance. If I do this for a year, eating for maintenance will be a breeze, it's not like I'll hate it, I will be able to eat *almost* anything since I'm doing OMAD and I actually enjoy OMAD(I just don't enjoy the chicken broccoli everyday, that sucks). Since I learned to count calories now, if I find out my TDEE I can just go back to the foods I love, just regulate the quantities. It is that easy

So no, I don't think I'll regain weight. I now know how hard it was to lose it, and how easy it is to gain, I won't trample on my hard work. I'm to the point that I'd rather end myself than gain 10kg

What works for one person might not work for another. I did what you were doing before and I crashed hard because I "cheated" and had some pizza and cheesecake and then proceeded to binge until I fell off completely. Now what I do is one meal a day (or pseudo OMAD where I'll only eat in a set period of time) and I eat whatever I want. If I feel a craving for pizza or some other shitty food that's high calorie I just eat it and stay within my deficit range. Also if I'm at the end of the day and get a really intense craving I'll eat something small to satiate it even if it lowers my deficit for the day. This has been what's sustainable for me but might not be for you. Don't fucking give yourself bulimia though, retard.

Choose good eggplants and use salt.
Slice them and salt, dice them then salt, or in that picture soak them in saltwater. Wash the salt off after a bit with fresh water and pat dry.
Also when buying the eggplants, try to get young/fresh ones. If they are leathery or old, the bitterness will be stronger.
>Hard mode ; no salt
Well shit. Personally I don't really mind bitter aromas (Padron peppers are amazing if cooked right), so I'll not bother trying to get it out personally.
Most of the bitter compounds are in the skin though, so consider skinning the eggplant before dicing or if you're cooking it like I did in that pic, scoop out the flesh with a spoon and leave the skin over.

If you're okay with that tradeoff, then you can get away with it. But you're always going to be fastfood brained due to it. Hope it works out for you anon. The three ways I'd recommend trying is:
- As Imam bayildi (so baked whole), then scrape out the insides instead of cutting into pieces, so that the skin is left. If the bitterness is an issue, try the saltwater soaking method. Do cut slices into the skin with a peeler or the saltwater won't be able to penetrate
- In a stew like mualle (dice eggplant, salt, let sit for a while, wash the salt off with water, drain, then braise)
- Baked (cut into long slices lengthwise, salt, let sit, pat dry, (wash off salt if you want low sodium), then either bake in the oven or grill).

If none of these 3 approaches appeal to you, it's just not for you, which is perfectly fine. Sometimes we just have preferences that we can't explain or that aren't rational.

All the adults know, though they can't pinpoint if it'll happen in 5 minutes or 15, but they see that there'll be tears. Some (like me) will make a futile attempt to tell the child, but it can't understand and proudly proclaims that it'll be "super careful".
I hope you prove me wrong.

I found that shit just made me hungrier. I tried it because I was a little bored of having water all the time. Got it and then next thing I knew I was chugging it non-stop and started craving slop like crazy, and my only recourse was to chug more of the stuff to try to distract myself, ultimately I just stopped having it. Cravings evaporated after like 3 days after stopping, I felt a huge relief once it was over.

I think the artificial sweeteners or whatever they put in that stuff just triggers hunger or something. Wouldn't recommend.

Why do you think so many people gain that much weight after dieting though? Like seriously, it can't be that hard to eat at maintenance if you understand calorie counting, no? I'll be honest, I don't think you'll convince me to drop a diet that is working really well for me, but since you do be reading studies, do they have any advice to prevent regaining weight once I hit my goal? I do 100% think I have a good grasp on it, but it never hurts to listen.
Also, you're talking almost as if it's already doomed, but if 20% of people manage to not regain weight, that's pretty decent odds, it's not like 1%. It's also probably one of those "90% of business fails", but most business are shit, led by people with no clue or market research with garbage ideas. Most people on fad diets are probably clueless and want to do it to lose a bit of fat for the summer, they don't understand proper calorie counting or how food works, they don't have a plan on how to keep the weight down and just go back to their old habits. I feel like since I have an okay grasp on all of that, even intend to consult with a proper nutritionist, my odds should be way higher than average.

I probably won't be here in 3 years since I can't stand you fucks, but I'll still be here in a year or two. If you're still around then watch me, if I ever gain more than 3kg please shame me, call me a retard and tell me to kill myself.

Started it 3 weeks ago. Can confirm, no difference on scale. I guess it's true that the thing is 99% water. Now weather it's good for you or not, probably not, but I've seen multiple doctors saying you have to drink a shitton those artificial sweeteners in order to see any negative effects, like liters upon liters of it. So water is still best, but for weight loss it won't make a difference desu.

>Why do you think so many people gain that much weight after dieting though?
Because (crash) dieting is a fundamentally different modus operandi than daily life. It's easy to keep going while you're motivated, see results (weightloss), and pay close attention, but eventually you will have to go back to daily life, and the skillset from the diet doesn't transfer to that.
TL;DR It's people who never got good habits or a better lifestyle going back to daily life.
>I'll be honest, I don't think you'll convince me to drop a diet that is working really well for me
I think you're confusing me with some other anon, I'm not trying to convince you to stop shit, I merely wanted to point out that your approach of "I'd never regain the weight now that I know" is naive - all those people in those studies were at that point once and they failed, so some humility to admit that you're no different would probably help.
>do they have any advice to prevent regaining weight once I hit my goal
Little in terms of actionable advice that is proven in a statistically significant manner. My advice is lifestyle change and better habits. Try to make it so you eating healthily isn't something you "do" actively, it's just the norm. You don't have to do that now, but you should pay attention to it when you're close to done.
>Also, you're talking almost as if it's already doomed,
I feel like (and this is purely a feeling I have 0 evidence for it) I'm looking at a friend making bad decisions when I read your post loudly claiming it'd never happen to you. I just wish everyone in here succeeds.
>diet soda
Diet soda is bad in the way that artificial sweeteners are bad and MSG is bad - not inherently, but they keep you chained to having an appetite to those old flavors. If you're fine with that - go ahead and enjoy them. Just know that it keeps you craving that ultra sweetness or super intense msg flavor.

My guess is you're pre-cooking the broccoli florets in the oven on a wire rack for airflow (or airfryer), same with the chicken given the skin it's developed. The sauce seems tomato based but watery, so a qrd on it would be appreciated. Just a diced tomato cooked down with some broth? Or something else? Any specific flavorings you add?

Alright boys newfag to /fit/ here I’m 5’9 and weigh 220 lbs. I’ve been trying to lift some regularly, I have two 20 lb dumbells and 3 days a week I do 20 overhead press, 20 bicep curls, 20 bent over rows and 20 calf raises. I’m trying to either walk or do 150 jumping jacks everyday, and everyday I don’t lift like today I’m doing 30 pushups, 30 crunches, 1 minute of lower plank and 20 squats. Today I have eaten 2 fried eggs with a teaspoon of butter and 2 pieces of toast and a banana. Tonight I will eat 2 slow cooked chicken tenderloins, rice and oven roasted broccoli. Generally I want to eat either 2 fried eggs and toast, or oatmeal with a little honey blueberries and a little whole milk for breakfast, and then pan roasted salmon with oven baked broccoli or brussels, or a steak with the same sides, or like I said slow roasted chicken though I might swap to a stir fry. I’m using non virgin olive oil for my cooking. On top of that I have two cups of coffee with a tsp of sugar and a splash of whole milk every morning which has been a habit for years. Am I on the right track or am I retarded?

You mostly got it, I use jarred marinara sauce, Rao's brand. I thin it out with beef broth and simmer it until it thickens back up. I add collagen peptides to the thinned out sauce. Once it starts to thicken I add the chicken and broccoli which yeah, I airfry in my oven. I use a oil sprayer to mist everything with olive oil so it browns. I start the chicken first, then I add the broccoli stalks, then I cook the florets last as they cook the quickest.

I season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Sometimes I'll add mushrooms and/or roasted garlic if I have them around.

Doesn't it depend on the diet though? Like if you're just doing something random like "omg drink this gut cleanse juice for a month and see insane results", or if you're doing like paleo or keto and putting like a shitton of cheese and bacon on your mouth just because it's "low carb", then I'd agree, but if you're calorie counting, that's pretty much what you have to do in daily life no? I don't intend to weight everything I eat, but at least for a few weeks once I introduce new foods just so I can have a decent idea of what say 200g of beef looks like.
I'll keep it in mind though, thank you for all the advice and the concern. I hope you succeed as well fren! <3

How did you gain back all the weight? Did you stop tracking?

>you will only slide deeper into that hole.
I had no intention of making puking a habit, don't worry, I just wanted to do it once if I wanted to have my first cheat day, but if no one here is doing it then there's probably a good reason. I'm a brokie, even when I was fatter I only ate pizza like once every two months so it's fine, I'm not going to suddenly spend hundreds on fast food

I appreciate your suggestions, but the craving isn't bad enough to be worth the hassle right now, like, if I cook worse pizza or if I eat only a single slice, I'll probably only make things worse and crave even more pizza. I'll just ignore it for now, the craving will be gone in a few days anyways. I'll save pizza for when I hit a neat milestone like 100kg, it will be way more enjoyable then. <3

Probably plays a big factor, but classifying "diet types" into usable groups, making sure the participants follow it correctly without shitty self-reporting AND having a usable sample sizer larger than a handful of people is hard.
I don't recall seeing a study that covers that in any way that's got a big enough n to draw (even heavily hedged) opinions from.
Most studies (like the one I sent) use aggregate health data, and while finding out who lost a certain % of body weight from those datasets is trivial, finding out how they did it is usually either hard or not possible. It's unfortunately one of those areas where scientific methodology hits economic reality and just isn't worth tracking.

>Did you track your weight
Yes. No gain, general maintenance. Previously I’d lost 100 lbs the proper patient way, got into some stressful personal and work problems and actually started eating like 500 cal/day (mostly cheese actually, sometimes liquor), then thought this would be a great way to eat whatever I want without worrying about consequences- like when I was a fatass but I could stay trim! I gained it all back during Covid (moved home with parents and couldn’t be a fucking bulimic anymore), also became an alcoholic but that’s another story.
>I had no intention of making puking a habit, don't worry,
LOL I remember the first time I had the “epiphany” that I could just puke it out. You won’t stop at a pizza every couple months. You are an addict, that’s clear from the way you’re looking at this situation. Every time you see something that looks “good” you’ll just think why not, I can just puke it up right?

I’m actually trying to urge you not to try this. Everyone in this thread is here because of a bad relationship with food, for whatever reason we have to try harder to eat like normal healthy people do naturally. You will only make your struggle harder than you already have by eating 600 cal/day of broccoli and rice.

>I'll save pizza for when I hit a neat milestone like 100kg
A much healthier way of looking at this, as long as by pizza you don’t mean “an entire xl meat lovers” that you’ll take home and eat in your room in the dark while watching anime/playing vidya. That is NOT normal and you will never be happy and healthy by behaving that way.

i've been lifting for around 10 weeks at this point so the walking would be the new thing

Yeah walking burns calories like any other exercise, it's an especially good option because it's easy and doesn't really spike hunger, just try not to let your NEAT fall in response.

If you've got the time, I highly reccomend walking, especially if you have hills. It's a good way to burn through audio books too.

unfortunately that's pretty much the main thing. If you could only choose one, lift, walk or count, counting is the one.

That is going to make missing your deficit more likely, an hour of walking can be wiped out with a light snack which you might not really notice. If it works for you it works, but counting would eliminate this concern.

down from aprox 93kg in aprox September last year, through kilojoule reduction diet of aprox 7,500kj (with a focus on protein but not the other macros), running at least twice a week, and low weight/high rep weights once or twice a week.
I am now essentially at a "healthy" weight, but as you can see it looks shit with a high bf%.
Using the bodyfat calculator US Navy Method my waist at the naval is aprox 97.2cm, neck is 38cm, and with height and weight that gives me 24.9% bf - 19.4kg.
I asked on /fit/ back in April (aprox 82kg at that time) about this and the recommendation was to move to high weight/low rep + increase the number of days of the week but before I could do that I developed tendonitis in my right arm.
(Trying to avoid injury was one of the reasons I had been doing low weight/high rep so much for that.)
So until my arm is better is there anything else I can do about the bf%?

I had a cheat day and also stayed up late and that i think was the big issue. Not only did the cheat day let old habits and temptations slip in, but staying up all night and fucking up my sleeping pattern and created the perfect storm . Now I'm staying up late with nothing to do and the cravings are back. This specific combination is the problem. If i was in bed right now i wouldn't have eaten even of i was craving

in my case even if I sleep 8 hours I am still tired and thus while I picked up exercising again I can't do it consistently, I may go to bed at around 11/12 PM wake up at 7/8 AM but then I end up feeling groggy for 3 even 4 hours, wasting away the morning.

I already tried Melatonin. I kinda get the feeling that I am more awake if I do things outside my room though.

I lost 80 kgs on keto over the course of 16 months and since January this year have regained nearly 70 kgs back. I am not kidding this is serious. I went through some tough time in January and dieting had given me a terrible sense of anhedonia where I couldn't find joy in anything and was quickly becoming severly depressed and then I went back to my old habits and found it almost impossible to stop all the eating and drinking I did until 8 months later (now). Can I please get some advice for when I lose it again on how NOT to regain it. I heard people on low-fat and low calorie restriction diets keep it off the most. All replies welcome.

I'm trying to get back on track again, what are some no-carb snacks to eat to mantain ketosis? Nutritionist told me green veggies are alright to eat during meals but i think he told me that i should try not to eat at all apart from set meals during the day. Thing is, i stress eat a lot and 2025 has been going downhill so far mentally wise so i need to have something in my hands to eat otherwise i'd just burn through the things i have in my fridge for lunch and dinner.

Isn't is always side that most people that do "fad" diets that are not going to be the same "lifestyle" when they start maintenance/normal eating the hold habits come back, because you didn't actually learn healthy habits. So when stressors come like they do with everyone you fall back to butterball lifestyle to cope and bam now you round again.

That depends, on a macro scale CICO is unimpeachable, but if you delve into the minutia of how the body actually works on a chemical level it gets really complicated and hormones play a much larger role than you might think. So that's where this "CICO is a lie" stuff comes from because it kinda is, CICO is an over-simplification of a much more complex system, but ultimately it still works 99.9% of the time.

Your insulin spikes during feedings. If you eat a lot (of calories), your insulin spikes. If you eat moderately, you insulin spikes moderately. Insulin is literally correlated to what you eat.

How does that not align with CICO?

Keto claims another one, turns out that swearing off carbs for life is actually not a sustainable lifestyle for the vast majority of people.
Remember this failure, let it be a lesson to you and give you strength and perspective for next time. Not getting fat is always going to take some restraint, even for someone who has never been fat, but it's a lot easier if you actually fix your relationship with food. You will inevitably suffer more failures, but they don't have to snowball into total relapse, just take it day by day.
