The knight wanted to take Toriel in chapter 3, but Kris forced them to take undyne. This in turn forced the knight to make the church dark world to try and get toriel again, which Kris set up so Susie could get the pen of hope speech from Gerson. The really long piano song puzzle is the only one Kris won't let you skip if you already know the solution, this is the same puzzle that Susie gets the pen of hope speech from Gerson.
