After playing through every variation of the game's routes I've come to realize the story with the prophecy, Susie and Ralsei is just half of the story's soul and the majority of the emotional weight of the game comes from Kris' and Noelle's intense longing to restore the bond they lost after Dess vanished, with Kris intentionally distancing himself (from guilt or a desire to protect her I can't tell yet, maybe both) and Noelle being forced to push down her feelings for Kris to protect herself from the pain of losing him. This is the most obvious "these two characters deeply need each other" pair I think I've ever seen in fiction without the story outright coming out and saying it out loud and I'm shocked Toby "Yuri Lovin" Fox put it in his game. I hope there's a way to facilitate them reconnecting that doesn't involve the Weird Route.

Gaster put Susie in the game to derail the prophecy, so he can end the suffering inherent in the dark world/roaring cycle and also get himself out of his creation and back together.

This is also depicted in Dragon Blazers aka Skies Forever Blue, where there's only 2 heroes left (the vessel or kris, and the "girl" wearing a pink ribon).

The Dragon skeleton, Gaster is the "final boss" and is asking the two heroes "WHAT DO YOU TWO THINK"

I'm surprised so many people in these threads find chapter 1 to be so much worse than the rest, lancer does a great job introducing the games humour and its short runtime stops the characters from overstaying their welcome. In comparison chapter 2 has the cyber fields, which have sweet capn cakes and suck when queens offscreen, the city is the best part of the chapter with snowgrave, triple trucies, and spamton. The palace was actually pretty meh when I replayed on the release, the pacing drags, there's a lot of long empty hallways and the Ferris wheel was unbearably cringe until berdly saved it at the end. I think chapter 2 is overrated because people remember the highlights and forgot most of its weaker parts during the WAIT while skipping all the dialogue on replay so they could get to chapters 3&4. That said 3>4>2>1 is the factually correct opinion
