Many areas in the remakes completely distort the intended design they're trying to modernize. Sure the heart was there but they fucked up other things from how Crash controls down to certain visuals. /v/ was just happy to get crash back which is fine but still.

it's a lot of things
gamma correction, overuse of atmospheric perspective, probably a lot to do with cheap international labor just rolling with whatever the default UE5 / engine shaders are
could also be because they know most people have shitty LCDs with awful contrast ratios so they cater to those and wash out the image
