i never felt afraid of boys/men or exploring the world going out to anywhere alone as a kid/teen since i was an ugly duckling and no man ever tried to catcall or flirt with me or anything like that, so i never had that fear of men as a teen since nobody paid attention to me. however i had a sort of glowup when i was 21/22, and i get cold approached sometimes now and generally get attention from stranger men now, compared to how i was more or less visible to men/boys when i was younger.
now i notice that after getting used to this, at the same time i've started being afraid of men. i used to spend so much time exploring forests and biking around in weird suburbs even at night for example, but now even walking around in a suburb during the day i get extremely nervous when i see a man, and it could be a super model for all i care (since i've seen men on the internet imply this sort of thing is about attractiveness) and i'll still feel the need to switch to walking on the other side of the road if there's nobody else around because i feel so nervous/guarded.
is this just being safe, and in fact i should've looked out for myself more when i was younger and didn't care? or am i too afraid now ?

The best way to deal with it is just to ignore their attempts to get closer, but if possible make it known you have no hard feelings, you just want to be alone.
