In reality, he is neither a theologian nor a historian.
He never had any degree in those
He is respected in the "textual criticism" of the New Testament. But he is clueless about the historical, theological, and cultural context of the scriptures.
One of his most ridiculous fails was when he tried to compare Jesus' resurrection with Apollonius of Tyana, who was seen to return to life and went to heaven.
But, in reality, the source for Apollonius was written 150 years after his death and it was written precisely to combat the rising popularity of Christianity.
This is something that almost every Roman historian knows. But, Ehrman never mentions it
Christian belief in Christ's resurrection was written by people who willingly died for it. And Christianity was born right in Judea, where people have seen him die and could visit his tomb at any time to confirm it for themselves
Just like every atheist ever, his entire fame was built upon bashing Evangelicals and other crazy protestant denominations.
While also purposely avoiding actual scholars in Catholic and Orthodox Churches.
