When I first approached the point where I actually needed to consider using a VPN, tailscale was the first thing recommended here, and succinctly met all my goals with no meaningful difficulty. Once I have a solution to a problem I generally stay with that solution, but I'm more than willing to refine and try new stuff if it's better. If I had to be specific, having access lists and the built in ability to set up SSH with one line in bash and several minutes on the wiki was too juicy of an opportunity to pass up.

I'm well within my right to comment on matters that I do know about and have experience with. With the obvious addition that this wasn't one of those things, which I own entirely.
