Personally, I wanted a self-referential parody. Trek has a long and sordid history of taking itself way too seriously... you know, much like the seethers in this thread. It needed something to point out its ridiculous aspects. So no one checked back on Landru's planet to see if he took over again? Picard simply separated Ornara from Brekka and no one checked on how that turned out? Or cared that meddling with a pre-warp civilization was a violation of the Prime Directive? Or hexagonal crates, which cannot be stacked stably under any circumstances? I could go on. No, Trek not only desperately needed LD, it desperately deserved it.

I don't care either way. I enjoyed "Lower Decks" because it needled all the ridiculous aspects of Star Trek I'd noticed over the years. The franchise is essentially ridiculous, after all.

Gee, it's almost like Star Trek is a middling sci-fi franchise that deserves to be parodied mercilessly. Good thing someone did that!

On the other hand, Trek had become so overwrought and self-satisfied that it desperately needed its ego pricked. Lower Decks did an excellent job of that.

Welcome, fren! I've got enough Star Trek knowledge for the both of us. Enough to realize it's just a campy TV show that started out as "Wagon Train" in space, and evolved into a gigantic inconsistent mess that, despite its rampant contradictions, still manages to be fun to watch most of the time. I mean, hexagonal crates, really?

I laughed my ass off when I saw this. Anyone have a good answer for this? I've been wanting to know for years.
