Bad writers who want to turn Superman into Batman -- same thing as wanting to turn Vulcans into non-Vulcans to make them compelling just because you personally don't find them to be.
Vulcans are what they are. Leave them as Roddenberry and Gene Coon intended and if they don't work for the story you want to tell, write something else. Don't try to square peg/round hole it, particularly with one of the most beloved races in the lore.
